Fun day out there....stopped at 17 fish to 30lbs....for two of us...all our fish were between 22 and 25 miles, roughly on a 220....nice hard break out there...a third of ours were on the bait...it was good bait, too....public service announcement: coupla boats went out in the dark this morning (and nasty fog) without operable nav lights....whoa.... |

Pacific Queen final score: 43 alb + 1 BF for 12 pax. Light load again tonight. The Billy Boy is not at the bait dock since the PQ is using that spot so Doug hangs in his motorhome in the parking lot between sales. Call him 458-4717 (It's posted on the dock too) or go pound on his door. It's the ugly one. |

jon wood . thanks for the great day. you are a fine captain and fisherman. as for the day jon's numbers had us high boat till about 11 when we turned out and got too warm 65.5. like a bath tub with no temp change for over an hour and no more fish. other boats caught up fishing more inside later in the day. other then that we had 17 and more than we could clean by the time we got to port. thats a good day. |

Just got back home after a great day on the water. 17 nice albacore to about 26#. Great radio work today for those calling out numbers. We fished 35/ 08-09 121 19 most of the day. Had six on one stop but only landed 4. Did not take bait and wish we had. Picked up one late in the day on a mega-bait after a jig stop. The water that we fished was 65 and found water at 10 miles still 60. They are getting closer. |

In today's San Luis Obispo Tribune Local fisherman Jim Nailen of Los Osos said, “This is the best albacore tuna fishing season since 2005.” The 2006 rain season (July 1, 2005 through June 30, 2006) produced 23.5 inches at the Diablo Canyon Ocean Lab, the last season we had a normal rainfall. If we look to natural indicators to determine what the atmosphere will bring us this upcoming rain season, it would appear that drought conditions are drying up and wetter weather may be on the way. Surf forecast Today’s 4-to 6-foot northwesterly (290-degree deep-water)swell (with a 15-to 17-second period) will continue at this height but with a shorter period through Monday. Strong to gale force (25 to 38 mph) northwesterly postfrontal winds along our coastline on Tuesday will generate a 5-to 7-foot northwesterly (310-degree deep-water) sea and swell (with a 4-to 11-second period), increasing to 7-to 9-feet with the same period Wednesday. A 5-to 7-foot northwesterly (290-degree deep-water) swell (with an 8- to 11-second period) is forecast along our coastline on Thursday through Saturday. Arriving from the southern hemisphere: A 1-to 2-foot southern hemisphere (200-degree deep-water) swell (with a 20- to 22-second period) will arrive along our coastline on Saturday, increasing to 1-to 3-feet (with an 18-to 20-second period next Sunday. Paul: Thats the difference between magnetic and true bearing. Pretty much all bearings that boaters talk about are magnetic. |

Paul, are you talking about a 255* as opposed to a 270* heading? If so, you're failing to account for magnetic deviation. It's approximately 15* East Deviation. 270* or "due west" would be a True course not a magnetic course. If that's not what you're referring to, then I don't understand you're question. |

So howcome on tempbreak it looks like the upper edge of the break is due west of Morro, but if you drag the little fish there and select MB as the origin, it shows a bearing of 256? Play with it and see what I mean. |

My two cents- when we fished wednesday we couldn't get the albis to go on bait but all the fish we got were stuffed with the litlle saury. I f they don't like the bait you have drop a small, real small iron/jig on the slide and see how that works good luck. |

Weather/SST The forecast for tomorrow and monday is still looking good. May be some residual lump tomorrow. It still hasn't totally cleared out in the area around the donut but maybe later. Hoping for at least a partial SST by morning. If there is one later in the morning I'll describe it on chanel 68 for those out chasing albacore. |

Stacey, hope that we can get into them. There are a few boats out today and some fresh numbers would be great. I probably will head out more on a 245 unless I get some new information. Will look at that area north of the donut where the warm water was earlier in the week. Will give you a shout if we have any good action. |

I was in Morro Bay earlier today and the sky was clear for many miles out so i would expect a terrafin shot today. I'll be leaving Morro Bay around 6ish. Jon Wood: I will be going out of Morro Bay tomorrow (Sunday) chasing albacore. My bost is the "fish Get'R". I leave very early because I travel slowly. I am going out at a 230 heading. Maybe I will see you there. |

Posing another option in regards to the ACR EPIRB device that Chad mentioned... I'm sporting a SPOT GPS locator on the boat as well as when on my motorcycle touring adventures, hunting trips, etc. Unless you go with an automatically activated EPIRB ($$$), the SPOT and the ACR units require manual activation. What I like about SPOT is it's multifunctional capability. Press the 911 button and the GEOS tracking center will activate an immediate response from whatever authority is located in the area of the distress signal virtually anywhere in the world. The system then tracks the SPOT and continually updates Lat/Lon. The second option is a "Help" button where the owner can pre-program a message to multiple people to be delivered via text message and/or email. My message goes to my wife and/or a friend on land as part of a Float Plan and reads something like "Non Life Threatening mechanical breakdown or electrical failure, no radio contact, please notify USCG Morro Bay 772-2167" The Lat/Lon is included with every message and this message will be sent multiple times by the system. I'd use this if our situation warranted the need for assistance and we couldn't get out on our radios. The good thing about this function IMO, is it's not going to scramble the Helo or a C130 out of Sector Los Angeles because you have a simple breakdown. Save that for the "911" function and a real emergency. Third function is an "OK" message. Activate this and your list of contacts will recieve a preprogrammed message indicating all is well with your Lat/Lon. You can even subscribe to "Tracking" where the system will leave a bread crumb trail every 10 minutes that is viewable by anyone you want to see it. ALL of the above functions can be viewed on Google Maps by a link provided with each message. The SPOT runs $149 and basic service is $99 a year. If you want "Tracking" the service total is $149/year. They even offer an insurance option that will cover the cost of rescue should that apply. You can buy the handheld unit at Big 5, go home and log into their website and in 15 minutes, be up and running. http://www.findmespot.com/en/ |

Also, we are getting some clearing out on the water with it clear below SF. We might get a shot later today. Hope so because we really need to see the conditions out there. |

got these awhile back but didn't know how to resize for this site. damn they look a lot smaller now. we hear alot about ball bouncing but these were all caught on single hook and bait. two of them before leaving the harbour in 12' of water. two more in 12' of water at pirates cove. at times i use my kicker motor in reverse to pull me right up to structure kelp or rock and fish-em amost like bass.Quote of the day "Never two halibut strikes alike" |

Thanks for all the help w/ pic's Stacy. Mike While making the run back in to monterey, Capt JON. makes his crew throw on the life vest. I never wore them but found it comfortable while in back washing the decks and Jon concentrated on driving. |

Cross your fingers and hope this forecast holds; Nothing over 10 kts all day sunday and monday until late monday evening. Tuesday and wednesday still ugly !! We could really use an SST/chlorophyll to see what our water looks like now. The Pacific Queen struggled yesterday to find fish. They fished until 6pm to scratch up 26. |

Chip: Every thing changed last night for the better. You were just looking at later data than I did last eve. I am waiting for the update this morning. The NWS narrative went to variable for both sunday and monday. On the 7ft 14 sec; If you look at the Cape San Martin buoy this morning it is 7 ft at 19 sec DPD but....the APD is 7ft at 7 sec which is very jackass. The APD is a 22 minute average of the conditions that are much more realistic. |

Harrell, I was just looking at the stormsurf.com page for monday and it looks like the wind isn't going to pick up until late Mon. night and the swell is 7 feet on the grounds with a 14 sec period. Are you seeing somewhere else that the wind is picking up earlier in the day?? thanks |
