Don’t let this happen to you. 1. Tell your wife that we as a couple are not going to spend money on unnecessary things. 2. Secretly order a fancy new Auto Pilot for your boat. 3. Have the bank call your wife and inform her that there is suspicious activity on the ATM card. "So Mrs. Cracka, we are calling to report suspicious activity on your account. Do you do business with Bobs Marine Electronics in Tampa? And did your husband buy a six pack of beer and can of Copenhagen on his way home from work yesterday? And by the way, our bank camera reveals him flirting with the teenaged teller at the drive through. This could happen to you.....but most likely would happen to me... |

Thanks again Eric for putting the facts out there for us. i am glad you left some room for intrepetation and good old common sense. as our problem with slo port is limited space ( which the harbour dept is meeting with us where many solutions will been voiced in good manner ) morros is limited water. my hope is others join with their ideas. I want to throw one out there. i believe the water problem is real and accept the limited amount you have found for us. i ask that the water you will allot for engine flushing be okayed for bucket washing the blood and salt off the boat while the full crew is assembled( we meet many times with captain and crew from diffrent parts of the state and go diffrent ways when leaving the harbour) . i can wash a 25' boat with 2 or 3 buckets of suds with a 3 minute rinse using a reduced water pressure tip. flushing engines i can say uses more water than the above plus i can flush at home the next day alone. we need to get the blood and salt off before it drys and while the full crew is availible to help. |

Hugh and all: According to the City Council, they declared a "severely restricted water supply" condition. According to their action: "3. Marinas and Waterfront Installations a. Use of fresh water to wash down boats, docks, or other incidental activities is prohibited. b. All hoses shall have spring-loaded shutoff nozzles or similar controlling devices." We at the Harbor Department are interpreting this to mean that we can leave the wash down OPEN, but ONLY for engine flushing - no boat or trailer washing allowed. So you guys and gals are going to have to do your best to make do with engine flushing only. We are also interpreting it to mean that we can leave the fish cleaning station open as well. Hugh is correct that the commercial coin-op car washes will remain operational, even if we have to go to "critical water supply" conditions. For you MB residents, under 1a of the "severely restricted" conditions, "use of water which results in excessive gutter runoff is prohibited, and under 1c, "washing cars by use of a hose is prohibited. Use of a bucket is permitted subject to nonwasteful applications." Not sure how this applies to boats on trailers, but if it were me I would use a bucket to rinse down my boat at home. In the end, all of this is subject to the Director of Public Works' interpretation, but this is how we are reading it so far. Eric Endersby Harbor Operations Manager |

Saw the bait boat in front of Cayucos this morning. Water looked good. Love to see them putting out the effort and trying. Most of the time it's not easy for them and when we go offshore it's nice to have the bait available especially late in the year. I hope we are all showing our appreciation. |

Still waiting for the updates but here is the first one. http://www.ndbc.noaa.gov/quikscat.php?station=46011 This is the satellite wind sensor Quikscat. For scaling the distance from monterey to arguello is about 100 miles. This shot was taken at 6pm this evening. Looks pretty good on the inside but windy from 50 miles out which will probably keep the swell up tomorrow. |

Just got in from fishing perch over at Morro Stand. Wind picked up on the beach between 3 and 5. Every wind boarder in the county was getting started as I left. Fishing was slow for the most part, but dinner bell started ringing the last half hour. Pulled a half dozen decent Barries and the pesky 3lb smelt in the mix as well. Good luck out there again guys! .... hope the weather cooperates. D |

I have just signed up to use this fishing report network today. My boat is the LeahAnn 26ft Striper.I have been viewing the posts over the last few days and I really like what I am reading. Sounds like most users are avid anglers. Last week I was out for the Albies on Wednesday and Sunday. 18 on Wednesday and 12 on Sunday. Lost eight on Sunday. Fishing around the 35.10/121.28 area. Looks like there is still a little line of warmer water in that area now. Thinking about making a trip out tomorrow. The weather appears to be calming a bit. Are there any other boaters heading out tomorrow? I usually go out of Morro Bay. |

Kevin: I'm thinking of making a poke out of MB in the AM. I'm in a small sled so I will not go if it looks bad. I agree that the conditions are looking better than forecast for today-it's 5-8 knots at the rock right now. Todays reduced wind might have reduced the lump out there a bit. I hope it holds thru Fri. Anyone else? |

If it looks good I am thinking of making a run if others are interested, don't like being the only boat on the water. I have not seen Lindsey's weather report yet today. WEATHER FORECASTS SUCK: All the buoys have come way down as far as the wind goes but not the swell yet. If they stay down all night then tomorrow should be good to go ! If they are still down at 4am it should be worth a shot. Will be watching the updates The SST this morning shows that the good looking water has moved out to 35:10 and 121:30 and is a narrow band heading west . |

Steve - please post to fish reports for me - thanks Effective today, and until otherwise directed by the Harbor Commission, trailer boaters will be allowed to get in line for the sport launch at midnight. Prior to midnight trailer boaters must park in new paved area or angled spaces in main lot. Once in line, drivers must remain with their vehicles as all lanes are fire or traffic lanes. When parking in line, do not block others, pier access, or impede orderly traffic flow. Any vehicle parked in such a way as to unduly impact public safety or orderly traffic flow will be asked to relocate. Thank you for your cooperation; work with us on this and we can accommodate all. Notice of a meeting to follow. Steve McGrath Harbor Manager |

Glad to see Drew interviewed and his belief that things need to change. Nice work to everyone that sent emails and called peolpe!!! Good to see the democratic process in action. Still waiting on a day/time to meet with Steve McGrath next week. I'll remind him to pick a windy day! best fishes, steve P.S. Had BBQ tuna last night. WEATHER/SST/CHLORO: This mornings models don't indicate any improvement before next week. Tomorrow morning is 10 or so on the wind but doubt if the swell/lump will be down much. Then by tomorrow afternoon "victory at sea" again. Temp is down a little bit but that is to be expected with that much wind. The plumes and breaks are holding pretty good and clarity is less than 1mg but not real blue. Probably about the same as monday. The best looking areas are out a little farther 30-35 miles. |

well. i just read the morro bay counsel meeting report. commerical car washes are not being shut down. i assume that is because most have a recycling system. after reading the report the city has a perfect storm water shortage and long term problem. nitrates in morro well and chorro well. desal plant with an iron problem and state water juridition wars. i see the writing on the wall that we may lose our wash down/ cleaning station completly in the future unless these new fees are used to build a commerical grade water system that recycles. ERIC. many people on this site supported the fees because they want to pay their way in life and trust the city will use the monies to solve these issues. it is so impotant to have boat cleaning onsite where the owner doesnt get stuck cleaning it himself at home when salt, fish and blood dry. |

I changed my computer settings and I got locked out... My question, Observation...What qualifications do these harbour patrol staff have? If thier rent a cops with a windbreaker that says Harbour Patrol... That could be alot of the problem...What kind of PR skills do you think they would have if that is the case...If they no nothing about boating or have never owned a boat...You see what I mean...I really dont no how they qualify...I like the term consructive action, Oxidation...Im in for any problem solving meeting...Let us know... |

Gang: Sorry about the broken wash down at Morro Bay. Been fighting the coin acceptor mechanism for a couple weeks, but it seems to have given up the ghost. We'll keep trying, and I've ordered a new unit but it won't be here until next week. We'll try and jury-rig something in the meantime but with harborfest upon us, not much is getting done but prepping for that this week. Slightly longer term, in a couple weeks, fixed or not, we will very likely be shutting down the fish cleaning station and quite possibly the boat washdown due to a severe water problem. Starting early November the State Water Project is shutting down delivery to our region for some planned system maintenance, which means that Morro Bay will be entirely on wells (drought-stricken at that) and desalination. Both are very limited in supply capacity, and the City Council has ordered all non-essential water uses stopped during that period, which very well may include the wash station. The order takes effect in mid-October. Check the Council agenda, item "D-1" for info at http://www.morro-bay.ca.us/archives/37/09-28-09%20agenda%20&%20staff%2 0reports.pdf We don't have all the answers yet as to exactly what we will be allowing, just wanted to give you a head's up. This will affect Morro Bay residents as well. Eric Endersby Harbor Operations Manager |

WEATHER: Don't see any days between now and wednesday that will be nice. Friday is the best with 10-15 most of the day but still with plenty of swell. Saturday & sunday 20 + both days. Monday & tuesday 10 to 15 again with pretty good swell. Only nice thing about Gale is that she lets us get a good look at the ocean for temp and color. It was clear out there all day so should be good SST/chloro posting later. Of course its look but don't touch ! |

To all those PSL users...and certainly not to take business away from Marty and Del...is there any way a new ramp could be part of the equation, with dedicated trailer parking? Or is space too limited? Could it be integrated into the present hoist location, therefore perhaps improving business for the the guys? I'm just thinking a complex dedicated to launching and boat services and a fishing-related mercantile could be pretty sweet....and of course, parking that would would primarily cater to fishermen! |

remember too many cars with limited space is what we are up againist, no bad guys.I don't think we can get more trailier space or an off loading area at the cleaning station( both needed) unless we can get rid of the demand for those spaces by cars.to come up with solutions we will need to know where all the cars are coming from. who can get this info. was there a traffic study done when they re-did the harbour? we need this to agrue fair usage. are the RV's parking second cars in the lot?, what % are employees cars? can tourist be shuttled from the beach area by trolley. i think any solution cannot take away usage of the port area for enjoyment of any of the users but it doesnt mean their car has to enjoy it too. count me in any meeting but lets get some facts on who is parking there. we need solutions that work for everyone. |

If history repeats itself there will be fewer fish eating trolled jigs heading into the late season, especially after this latest Gale. The breaks are moving fast and green water is replacing blue. We will be paying close attention to meter marks, bait balls, breaks, scum lines, and areas holding life. Fish live baits & iron deep, chum with chunks, and be pateint. One year we had a meter mark that produced 8 LFT late in the day from 40 to 72-lbs 23m off the Rock. |

So will the Morro Bay harbor issues such as the broken washdown be addressed at this meeting, or is it just Port san Luis? Really sucks to have to wash after getting home at midnight. |

Hey Greg, I agree. You always hear about the cedar plug getting picked off more than anything else in the spead. I beleive it's because it's the lone wolf, it looks so different than anything else you can put back there. I always run all zuccini brooms and like you multiples is the rule. I run a couple of 18 inch zuccini spreader bars with broom chase baits off the out riggers and 3 or 4 brooms down the middle. I have the same exact set up in black & purple just in case but 95% of the time I run the zuccini. I have made 6 trips this season got my first fish in early June and no skunks. Stopped with 14 on Sunday before noon because we had enough for the 2 of us. Now what do I do with the thousands of dollars in lures I have. LOL |

Greg I too have read Bob Franko's tutorial on trolling for albacore and being new to albacore fishing from my boat I follow his rule. It has worked for me this season with good scores on all of my trips out except for one when I had radio problems and went the wrong way. Sunday we ran 7 rods and had multiple hookups, one with 6 rods going off. Our speed has been around 7.1 kts but I do change speeds at times. We did have one of the outrigger lines go off when we were stopped and fighting fish. Made me jump again. Bob's tutorial can be viewed on the Coastside web site. Just my 2 cents worth. |

Hey guys...thanks for the info. More good things to think about and confuse yourself about on tough days (fish or cut bait...fish or cut bait!!!). So my question still stands...was I stoked to catch 4 troll fish on Monday (all singles) on that cedar plug or did I blow at chance at getting 4 separate doubles and triples (so I would have had 8-12 fish instead of 4)??? Yep, great article...my buddy Aaron just sent me that article this morning. I read it again for about the 30th time Here it is: http://www.coastsidefishingclub.com/Trolling-Jigs-For-Albacore-bob-fra nko |

Steve, When I first started fishing tuna in 95 I started with 4 rods and tuna clones (all I knew at the time). I consintently had triples and quads. During the years that followed I started using a lot of "fancy stuff". I threw everyting at them but the kitchen sink and couldn't figure out why I would only get singles and maybe a double if I was lucky. The tuna run's died. A few years ago I read an article by Bob Franko on the "Franko method". Bottom line--keep it simple, keep your spread tighter and all the same type. Color doesn't matter. Don't leave the weak lone wolf out there way back to be picked off and never get the school to the rest of your spread or the boat. In late September of 06 we had tuna again for about a week. I now fish 7 rods and I had all 7 go off including many 5's and 6's!! Also had some great bait stops. Bob's article on tuna fishing is well worth the read. You'll have to look for it as I don't know where to find it today. Also, a few months ago, I got turned on to a web site called Santa Barbara Surf report. (www.17ft.com) It has all the west coast bouy's and many other things all compiled on one page for easy viewing. It's great for a quick overview. One of the things I like is the wave height forcast. It's a globe picture projected out to 180 hrs. It show's we'll have a break on the swell generated by the Gulf of Alaska sometime middle of next week. Hope we can all get out and put the hammer to them again!!! Good luck to all! |

We normally troll at a much higher speed also than three knots, but two weeks in a row that is what they hit and did not take the jigs at a higher speed, they also would only take very small jigs. Last week larger jigs and a much faster speed. Go figure. so when they are not hitting, try different speeds is my suggestion. but two weeks |

3.5 knots sounds like the speed you would troll with rapalas or mirrolures in sloppy weather. We were trolling at 6.5 knots Sunday and stopped at 13 fish, nine of which were jig fish. Also of note, we had one hit the rootbeer broomtail that was long down the center 10 minutes after we got stopped when we forgot to clear it in the mayhem. Go figure. |

Mike (Oneida_b), Really...3.5 knots! Wow...never heard of folks trolling that slow. Maybe with swimbaits. Is that with clones or cedars or everything? I never thought of going that slow...thanks for the info! later, steve |

I'm all for constructive disscusion, but prefer constructive action. Simply give us our designated parking back, let people get in line when they want, without a hassel, barring any safety concerns, and give us a 5 to 10 min. loading zone in front of the cleaning station. Many landings have no camping rules but aren't hardline about it. Monterey,Moss,Santa Cruz, Dana Point are examples, in fact the patrol guy at Monterey even let us put the boat in at 1 a.m. and park in the harbor patrol spot as their boat wasn't using it. Still hoping to hear from Drew on his take.As for tuna hitting good one day and not another, they eat when they'er hungry, lucky to be there at the right time, sucks when your not. |

Saturday looks nasty at this time, Rick! Our trolling speed, according to GPS, averaged around 7.5kts....we had no trouble getting jig strikes |

On the note of fish hitting one day and not the next. The one thing I do not see posted is the speed every one was trolling. I believe this makes more of a difference on jig fish than color. Last wednesday we fished and trolled at 3.5kts to 4 kts, the same as we had done the week before. The week before we loaded the boat, last week we had nothing while everyone else was loading up, asked what color plugs and we had the same, then asked what speed, and they where trolling at a much higher speed, 5knts. We increased our speed and got hammerd right away. So, fish may hit a jig one day at a different speed, just like Bass fishing, slow crawling jig, to a crank bait? Just a thought. |

B.A. good to hear you will be back in action. My guys are ready to go again, good crew and we have been through some ruff times on the water. That is why we tend to travel up and down the coast, not only looking for a good bite, but we try to fish good weather, but some times stuff happens. If weathers turns nice, I am going to try to fish on Sunday for Tuna out of Morro or Port San Luis. Hope to see you out there! |
