GFS shows the same front approaching, although it is morphing a great deal....fairly typically...intensity levels and location changing almost every model run. Still....looks like an early Fall jolt of some sort....!! |

From the San Luis Obispo Tribune http://www.sanluisobispo.com/news/local/breaking_news/story/877663.htm l?mitest=tstamp_A_vis Heavy rain possible in San Luis Obispo County An unusually strong October storm could bring up to a half-inch of rain to San Luis Obispo County next week. The storm is expected to move into Oregon and Northern California late Monday into Tuesday with gale force winds and moderate to heavy rain, according to John Lindsey, meteorologist at Diablo Canyon nuclear power plant. The cold front should then move down the California coastline, causing southerly winds and mid- to high-level clouds Monday afternoon through Tuesday evening. The front is forecast to pass over the county Tuesday night into early Wednesday, according to Lindsey. Rainfall totals could range between .33 and .5 inches. There is another chance of rain the following weekend. Today's high temperatures should range from the high 70s to low 80s inland and the mid 70s in the coastal valleys, according to Lindsey. The coastline will stay in the high 50s to the mid 60s. The fog will return Thursday night through Friday morning, before burning off by Friday afternoon. This weekend is forecast to be warm, Lindsey said, with the beaches reaching the mid 60s to low 70s and inland areas reaching the high 70s to low 80s. |

Usilton... Teachers Pet... Awesome would love for you join us sometime soon like the old days, I am going to e-mail you my phone#... Cant wait to get out there with you again... Its funny I was telling a story about a trip you and I had about 10 years ago to one of fishing buddies, you and I went albacore fishing one day and the bite was good, it was right after I got my boat so it was still new and we started slamming the albacore, blood was getting everyware and we were triple hooked up on bait stop and putting lots of fish on the box I was actuary cleaning my boat with cleaner spray while hooked up, I remember you making a comment to stop cleaning and land the fish... every since that day the Jane II was a fishing boat, and put on hundreds more albacore... To see the amount of blood i get on even my new boat now, I can only laugh that I was trying to actually clean the boat 30 miles off in a wide open bite .. Anyway cant wait to get out there with you again... |

Locked and loaded for tuna. Since the last "Hot" sunday bite, Ive been working on getting things in order (thanks Harrell). Boat and crew are ready to attack and now NO FISH! We were planning on going tomorrow but will probably wait to see how the shots look and what the feedback is. On the first sign of fish and decent weather we are in! May try for flatties tomorrow in the mean time....... |

When in doubt, up and out. Right? I think the data on Tempbreak is kind of supporting that. At least temp wise. The plume moved north, and the donut looked cold. As far as Chlor, 42 mi. at 242* the water is cleaner and about 61*. I am postponing my trip until we see some more promising prospects. I think weather will not give us a better picture until the weekend due to the fog. Well my $.02 anyways, and I sure hope the boys did well today. Cheers, Beers, and Fish Tacos, Reggie |

I am sure Virg's has bait .... The amount of bait between A beach and Cayucos is amazing. Thousands of birds working bait balls up and down the beach this morning. Making your own should not be a problem if you want to make the short run early or night before. |

Feds to 60 Million American Anglers: We don't need you IRVINE, Calif. USA – October 5, 2009 – A recently published administration document outlines a structure that could result in closures of sport fishing in salt and freshwater areas across America. The White House created an Interagency Oceans Policy Task Force in June and gave them only 90 days to develop a comprehensive federal policy for all U.S. coastal, ocean and Great Lakes waters. Under the guise of ‘protecting’ these areas, the current second phase of the Task Force direction is to develop zoning which may permanently close vast areas of fishing waters nationwide. This is to be completed by December 9, 2009. Dave Pfeiffer, President of Shimano American Corporation explained, “In spite of extensive submissions from the recreational fishing community to the Task Force in person and in writing, they failed to include any mention of the over one million jobs or the 6o million anglers which may be affecte d by the new policies coast to coast. Input from the environmental groups who want to put us off the water was adopted into the report verbatim – the key points we submitted as an industry were ignored.” Recreational fishing generates a $125 billion annual economy in the United States and supports jobs in every state according to government figures. Through the Sport Fish Restoration program, anglers have provided more than $5 billion through excise taxes on fishing tackle to fishery conservation and education for decades. In addition to the economic aspects, anglers lead the nation in volunteer conservation efforts on behalf of improving fish habitat, water quality and related environmental areas. “There was no mention of the fishery conservation efforts which anglers have led for over 50 years in every state – an environmental success story that has no equal in the world”, said Phil Morlock, Director, Environmental Affairs for Shimano. “The Task Force did not make any distinction between the dramatic differences between harmful commercial fishing harvest methods and recreational fishing, even though we spelled it out for them in detail,” added Morlock. Claiming to be the result of a public consultation process the report states, “Having considered a broad range of public comments, this report reflects the requests and concerns of all interested parties.” The original White House memo and not surprisingly the Task Force report contains multiple references to developing a national policy where Great Lakes and coastal regions are managed, “consistent with international law, including customary international law as reflected in the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea” - a 300-page treaty the U.S. has never ratified. “We question what implications there will be for state authority and jurisdiction in the Great Lakes and coastal regions if the U.S. adopts the U.N. Treaty,” said Pfeiffer. The report makes it clear that future authority for implementing the policy for coastal and inland waters will fall under White House jurisdiction with a new National Ocean Council comprised of over 20 federal agencies at Cabinet Secretary or Deputy Secretary level. No reference to Congressional jurisdiction is indicated. “This significant change in U.S. policy direction is the result of a 90-day fire drill process as ordered by the President that, not surprisingly, lacks balance, clarity and quality in the end product,” said Morlock. “People who simply want to take their kids fishing on public waters deserve better from their government,” he added. Shimano is joining with other members of the recreational fishing industry to urge anglers to contact their members of Congress and the administration to request this process be required to adopt the economic, conservation and social contributions of re creational fishing as key elements of the policy. It is critical that we ensure Congressional oversight and state jurisdiction and management continues. E-letters can be sent to the administration and members of Congress by visiting KeepAmericanFishing.org. The future of fishing is in your hands. ### Editor’s Note: Phil Morlock is attending Congressional Sportsmen’s Caucus functions this week in Washington, DC, but will make himself available for questions, interviews on this. Check out Tempbrake's chlorophyll and you will see why all the green water reports from yesterday. Will be watching to see if this cleans up with the wind down this weekend. The previous chlorophyll shots were obviously not very accurate. http://coastwatch.noaa.gov/applet/applet_mapping.phtml?tif=http://coas twatch.noaa.gov/data_drive/products/modis/tiff/MODSCW_P2009280_2125_WC 05_closest_chlora.tif&cw_region=WC&type=Chlorophyll%20(NASA Here is the coastwatch shot. |

"the guys that patrol the area are cool about it" roger, contact 'vandenberg frontier control' on ch 16...they will tell you what safety zones are open....don't just go blazing your way down there durring a launch day without checking in....if they have to scrub a launch because of a recreational vessel, trust me, they won't be very "cool about it" |

Bruce welcome to the board. Just to let you know we have lurker that gives a vote of one star to the the real fishermen who post. The better the info the more likely you are going to get the one vote of one star. Whoever it is senses that you are a slayer. Take it as a complement. Matt and I will drive the boat to Morro when the bite picks up and weather stays down. You are invited when it pops. |

GOOD NEWS AND BAD NEWS ! The good news is the weather didn't come up as advertised and the bad news is neither did the fish. Pac Queen had five fish and the Pac Ho had two fish and a small sporty had 1. Sal took the Pacific Horizon as far as 87 miles SW and gave it a hell of an effort. Sooo what does this mean ? Haven't a clue!! |

Greetings, Just got back from PSL. Talked to Joe on the Patriot, he said he couldn't raise the guys on the Pac Horizon...which probably means they were way out. He said the guys he heard working in closer were having a tough time finding fish. Hopefully someone posts a report soon! Also so Steve McGrath out there, he is excited to have a meeting with you guys on Monday. Hopefully some of us will show up. This is a really nice gesture on his part. lat, steve |

grand pa died before he ever told me why no hard boiled eggs, i just know they put a stink on a boat that doesn't get bit. he also told me no cex ( this site won't let me spell it) the night before but i was only 12 and i think that had a different meaning and would hate to pass that one on. |

Rapalas: I always have some with me anytime I fish, for albacore I usually run them on my short line right behind the boat, I have seen times when a feather will not get bit for nothing, and the fish will only hit rapalas.. I always troll at least one, but they do fly out of the water sometimes, sometime when pulling them back to the boat to check they can fly back at you so be careful |

remember the rule of tuna fishing is being prepare for multible hook ups. there is a fairly good consences that running a pattern lends itself to multi's but multibles don't mean @#2# if your not getting bit at all. so yes diving lures have to be in the arsenal. especilly this time of year where locating fish to chum is how to get multibles on one jig strike. PS. i like to run any lone wolf lure close to the boat so at least the pattern still will cross over the fish instead of lone wolf out back where fish may never key in. this time of year don't be afraid to work a bit closer to sister ships as harrell spoke of. you can save a lot of chum getting fish off of meter marks working together. |

Gots to have a pair of rapalas in the spread in close, seems they always get bit. We take the trebles off and run one double hook off the back so you don't have to deal w/ the treble hook, also its faster to get them out and back on troll. Tuning your rapalas gets easier the more you mess them. Eventually you get it with no problems. Try the yo zuri the plastic bill you don't have to tune. |

I also am a fan of the raps later on in the year they seem to work best , the only problem is 40#of jumping fish with them deadly treble hooks flying everehere, dont even want to think of a finger hook and a floping fish PAINNNN |

FISH REPORT: A couple of sport boats went out on the 35:10 line 40-50 miles for no fish and reported the water a little green. The Pacific Horizon and the Pacific Queen are out there today so we will see how they do. Might be that the conditions are better outside the donut. |

JMoore...concerning Cd-18 Rapalas running wild after getting bent bills, just take your needle nose and bend the front bill slightly left or right. Bend left to make the lure run more to the right and visa versa. I tweak them ever so slightly to run away from the boat just a little and run em on the outside rods so they stay out a bit...I've fished the same lures since 95, just keep tweaking them to run straight...You might know this already, if so, disregard this message!!..lol...Mike |

Deke just made a nice load of straight anchovies! All the Patriot Sportfishing boys (and Jessica) are headed out tonight on the Pacific Horizon to hopefully locate the tuna. Will post when we return Wednesday. |

I have had lots of success w/rapalas. I troll them at 6.5 to 7 kts. Since they dive down I put them on the inside of the spread and run them short. We caught both of our bluefin last week on unpainted CD18 rapalas. Like Harrel says watch out when you are reeling them in and they get close to the boat. The thing that I don't like about them is that when they get tweeked the won't run straight. If they won't run straight you might as well not run them at all because you will get tangels or the lure will jump out of the water. Because of this after we gaff the fish we don't put the fish down on the deck untill the hooks are out. This keeps the fish from beating the lure against the floor and possibly tweeking it. Everybody has thier favorite lures and mine are which ever ones I can catch a fish on. |

I will be going out of Morro Bay thursday looking for albacore. I plan on putting in around 0615L. I will be on 68 and would love to work with anyone else out on the albie search. I am going to take a look at that break Harrell posted starts at 35:10/121:30. Any other numbers or before Thursday would be much appreciated. |

Never liked Rapala's or Maraders in my spread for tuna. One is usualy fished slower and one faster, so we would drag a swim bait far back instead. Fishtrap on your center line behind your last wake and let it hang on jig stops. And if your going to pull bluefin on the troll ...it will be that rod that gets the sushi grade! |

WEATHER UPDATE; Tomorrow might be a short day! The latest models show 15-20 kts by early afternoon. Anybody going tomorrow might check the buoys and the latest marine forecast when you get up in the morning before heading out. |

Todd: When there is gale force winds for several days, like we had, it cools the surface and mushes up the breaks. Doubt that the lower temps will have any effect on the tuna. It is still clean enough so it will just be a matter of finding them again. Rapalas: Be very careful when you reel them in because when they pop out of the water you may end up wearing them. They also dart around much more than the other jigs so watch for tangles. I like to run them behind the other jigs. They will troll at the same speed as the jigs but a little slower is better especially if there are any bluefin in the area. |

Harrell, Thanks for the information on the sst/chlorophyll. I didn't realize that you could look at the water clarity on the terafin. We looked for clean water all day friday, when we finally found some we hit a double. Another boat that was willing to fish Friday caught three in the same area. 35.15/121.16. We had 61.5 degree water but it is now only around 58 or so. Do you think the Albacore would still hang around in the cold of water? Someone mentioned trolling Rapalas in the colder water. What is a good troll speed for rapalas? Todd Livermore |

SST/Chlorophyll A great SST and chlorophyll were just posted. The cleaner water is almost a prefect overlay on the warmer water and certainly looks clean enough to be holding albacore. The best looking break starts at 35:10/121:30 and runs on a straight line SW to 34:40/121:47. The inside break starts pretty much just outside the 121:00 line running south from Morro and NW from Morro. |

Looks to me like the weather forcast has changed for Wednesday for the worse so I plan to postpone my search for a day or two. It still looks fishable for Wednesday but better on Thursday. Today turned out to calm. The same plume we worked for the last couple of weeks is only about 10 mi out now. It might still be holding some fish. Bob |

WEATHER: The Models are indicating blue bird weather from now thru next monday. The swell will also be down all week so pick a day and go ! The big question now is; where are the tuna ? Temps are not critical now but the chlorophyll is so hope we get a good shot before the fog rolls back in. Albacore will feed in green water but they usually will be close to clean water. |

SST/chloro update; This evenings SST combined with yesterdays chlorophyll paints a less rosy picture. Temps are lower and a lot of green water. The area just outside the "PSL buoy" looks the most promising unless you go out to the area above the donut and beyond or down towards the 1908. Maybe get a better idea of the conditions after another day of settling. John (PG&E) says the marine layer will be back wednesday so hope we get good shots tomorrow. |
