From the jetties and piers, if casting a lure, will it not be too shallow of water to catch a king or have some of you ever caught a king with a lure from the rocks? |

KD, Needlefish generally swim on the surface, therefore you should get surface runners, but iam not sure if you could get then while trolling lures. As for the distance of the lures from your kayak, I have never used a kayak. However from my little experience while trolling from boats says that you need to let the lure be away from the boat or kayak so the the lures action is not compromised by the flutters in the water created by the paddle or the propellars of the boats. thanks |

If casting out a needlefish or other bait under a float how long should the leader be / how far under the surface of the water should the bait be presented. Any reccomended lure diving depths and how far to let out lure from kayak? |

From my personal experiences, to initiate strikes by kingfish, one will need to work his(or her) lures quite fast. Had caught them while jigging and popping using one of those small poppers (about 5in in length). THEN again, its all back to (depend upon) the actual baitfish present in the area and also the size of the kingfish present. Lures which replicate sardines, which are greenish/bluish in colour were most effective for me. Other have sworn on the effectiveness of "RED HEADS" but for unobvious reasons, had never had any success with them Fast trolling spinners or spoons also work well to entice attacks from kingfish and also barracuda. Ciao! |

Hi Rob & KD, Not many people visit this forum anymore. I myself dont get a chance to view the posts. However, I have never used a kayak but know of people who get alot of kings in and around the palm from kayaks. Try trolling from the kayak using rapala minnows, as Shaz rightly pointed out do definitely try out the red head. For shore casting, you may try out spinning with lures but you would not be able to cast far enough to attract a king. never head any one catching a king while bottoming around the marina breakwater. Thanks |

hi kd & rob, don't be disheart. sorry for delay. now a days is the season of king fish. if king fish is around so u can spinning using rapalas, manns stretch, storm lures. specialy red head, u can cast and retrieve slowly.i don't know on kyak u can troll with slow speed or not. if u can then it is good. or the other method u can use full sardine or needle fish with treble hooks on metal wire with float and cast and wait. some people used needle fish with treble and use small sinker with that and they cast far from breakwater or deepwater amd wait for a strike. i don't know from where u want to catch. don't forget to tie a metal wire leader with hooks. take care shaz |

hey Rob, asking for advice on this forum is pretty pointless since everyone on this forum ignores people asking for advice i kayak fish from jumeirah beach and people spearfishing and around me catch kingfish but all i catch is small spangled emperor. ive asked how to catch these kings but nobody answers so esperience is probbly the best way to learn. what kayak do you have and what waters are you kayak and shore fishing from? |

All for AED700, actuall worth would be more than AED1200.00, pls write me on shamshad66@hotmail.com if you are interested. I should say thanks to the UAE shore which kept me busy and gave lot of angeling pleasure for last 3-4 years and never disappointed me whenever I went their for Fishing Fun. Guys, soon I will join you from other part of the world with more news. Keep it up... (Sorry, pix cud nt be uploaded, i can send them by mail to the interested buyers) Best Regrads |

Hi All, Just stumbled across your site and thought I'd pop in and say Hi. My names Brian and I am new to these shores. Previously I lived in Brighton (UK) and fished the south coast. I moved to dubai at the start of the summer (May) and have been waiting for it to cool down a bit to get my lines wet. I am still a relatively new fisherman, so the scores of reading on here will be a great help. I am living in the marina area so will probably start checking out that area first, hopefully sea some of you out on the shore. So if you see a very pale set of legs stumbling around with a beach caster come and say hi. Tight lines B. |

Hello guys, hope the season is treatin you all well down in Dubai...I hope that one of the british or irish anglers on here could give me a couple of tips about sea fishing in the Dublin waters...I know my luck isnt so good, I jst left Dubai when the season JUST started, and now i get up here to find out that the season is almost closed...I was told though that sea fishing can be productive year round...Polluck, flounder, cod, coalfish ect could be targeted here so any tips would be great... Overslept this morning, so only got down to Marina (in front of Habtoor Grand) around 7:15. Was very still, water crystal clear, but still quite humid. Picked up a couple of needlefish, but after changing to a white crazy charlie....bam....queenie on. Good fun on an 8 wt, and finally have managed to land one on the fly. Measured with tape measure at 53 cm, and photos taken on my disposable, so will have to wait until developed and scanned before uploading them. Was a little bit of surface activity out in the channel, but not enough to entice me into a kayak session around the palm just yet. Tight lines Beefy |

Hi Asad Good to hear you were out at the weekend and had some sucess. I don't have anymore rods left now, just reels. If you don't have any special software on your pc/laptop for reducing pics like me then i do it this way: Open the picture you are going to send and then in the lower right hand corner next to the disc symbol, you will see a very small box with a green and yellow/blue image in the box and when you hover the mouse cursor over it, it will say "closes this program and opens image for editing", click on that symbol to open up the picture. Once the new screen opens up, click on the symbol to open that new screen into a full window. Across the top left of the screen you will see the word "image", click on that. Then you will see the word "Sketch/skew", click on that and up pops a box with horizontal etc in it. in the horiz and vertical boxs, change the numbers to 35 in each box and click ok. This should then reduce the picture to a smaller size. Back in the top left of the screen you see the word "file", click on that, then save the file as and name the file, just like you normally save and then hey presto you just reduced the picture size. This should make life easier to up load pictures. If the picture still won't uploade after trying this then go back through the steps and reduce it some more. I went out on the weekend also and had some nice queen fish, you can read about it on my blog www.fishinguae.wordpress.com Tight lines. Adam |

Hi Kevin As Adam has said, just fish and don't worry too much about signs!! I regularly fish in area just as you have described sign-wise, the issue seems to be nets/traps etc rather then rod/line anglers. Cops often pass me and give me a cheery wave!! However, what has caused some fishing spots to be closed down in both DXB and AUH is the disgusting and disgraceful amounts of rubbish dumped by so called (t)anglers. I have often spent the first 30 mins of a fishing trip filling several bin liners of crap left by these retarded pigs who ruin our sport, cause the municipality to ban fishing in the area and generally turn the public against angling (or slaughtering immature fish as is usually the case here). Should you see idiots dumping rubbish where you are fishing, please release all your pent up angst on these CLOWNS! Anyway, Kevin, if you are a keen flyo, get over to Fujairah right now as it's seriously Dorado City and I have had plenty of dorado on the fly in the past few weeks - tremendous fun!! Hi Kevin Most of the places you will unfortunately see no fishing signs these days due to the ever increasing development and then land becoming private or a building site therefore no entry due to health and safety reasons. I have also seen the canals being formed in and around the yas island area and do believe they will one day be good fishing grounds once the development slows down there just like with the palm islands in Dubai where i hear many reports of some good fishing activity as the natural reefs build up again after the construction has stopped. I really look at it in one way, they can only ask you to move on so go and explore as that's what fishing is all about, discovering fishing spots for yourself or being the first one to fish there or at least that's the way i look at fishing. I would suggest going along to the environment agency in Abu Dhabi and personaly getting your fishing licence, it takes 10 minutes if you have the correct information with you which should be listed on their website. Good luck with your fishing and welcome to the forum. Tight lines. Adam |

Adam - That is a great Queen Fish. Several of the places I scouted today had surface action going on. I was getting excited in anticipation for breaking out my 8 weight after a few years. I also noted bait fish swimming right along the drop off edge along the beach. I would love to snorkel out there a little to see what structure there is, but it says no fishing, and the tidal rip was pretty strong. Maybe I'll see you out there sometime. Kevin Taylor |

I was out scouting potential fishing sites just north of Yas Island today. Many likely (and beautiful) spots were posted with signs saying "Deep Water. No Swimming, No Anchoring, No Fishing" and then underneath "Using Nets, Basket, and Traps". As I am primarily a flycaster, does anyone know whether it is OK to fish these sites? Also, I have registered on the Environmental Agency website to apply for an annual fishing license, but then cannot log in? Do all you guys have licenses? |

Here is last nights catch...Location:ghantoot Bait:shrimp and squid(Grunters struck more at the squid) Tackle: Sabiki rig, but cut in half to be only 3 hooks, if more than 3 hooks used, it would get tangled easily. also used normal hook and line bottom fishing. Again id appreciate some info on fishing grounds recently tested around dubai or abu dhabi which produced fish. info on tackle would be great cuz im still a beginner (6 months fishing) I am not the "catch and release" type of fisherman, but I only catch as much as me n my family can eat. Hope no1 is offended by this =P. Tight Lines Musa Sharkawi |

Please read back through the many archives for tips and advice on lines to use and where to fish etc. The forum has been in operation for sometime and has a vast library of information for you to search through that has been contributed by various members. As per my picture and post, i caught the fish on fly fishing tackle and used a green and Yellow clouser fly also mentioned in the same post. Hi Fellows Please recommend fishing line to be used for shore casting, around Abu Dhabi. Secondly, this forum has become a showcase as just the pics of catch are shown with little or no info of spot and bait. I would like to appreciate Abdul for providing such info in near past, which is helpful for people like me who are new to UAE and angling. Wishing all of you a productive fishing season. Damn it...The season is starting up again and now im forced to leave back to Ireland in a couple of days for university! Going fishing tonight at ghantoot cuz its the only productive spot for me (Newbie)...caught a 1 kg seabream a few days ago amongst other smaller fish... Largest fish ive ever caught didnt exceed 1.25 kgs and I want to turn that around. Any tips on catching those larger 2 kg+ fish would be great! I go usually around 2 am. maybe the timing is wrong. Tackle is probably the issue here. Thanks fellows and EID MUBARAK TO EVERYONE! |

Headed out Sunday to a new spot for me in Abu Dhabi. Loads of surface action with some really big rises and splashes. Bait fish being chased by queenies and garfish. Managed to hook a half beak or bally hu as i've herad them called before which is a favourite food of the king fish and queen fish. Caught a decent sized queenie on a green and yellow clouser which gave me a 5-10 minute fight and then released after a quick picture. Great to be back out fishing again though...bye bye summer humidity Tight lines. Adam

Salam Bro Ijlal, Glad to hear from you. Fishing here is Good as well as Bad...... The sea have great potential BUT weather is quite unpredictable as our sea is totally exposed to one of the most unstable weather system in Asia. Just about last month, we went out for deep sea fishing with Mohammed and few other friends. The ride to the spot took about 2hours in a high speed boat with top speed of 58knots. The spot was good with catches of tuna and amberjacks BUT ALL OF A SUDDEN, the cloud turned black and the sea started to swell with waves of upto 3mtrs. I even took a dip in the sea.....luckily was wearing my auto inflation life jacket...Fheeeew! Going back to shore took us about 4hours due to the very rough ride. Whole body was aching for few weeks!!! Anyway, wishing you a very "fishful" and fabulous fishing season! Keep in touch, my e-mail is csalatifa@rba.com.bn Ciao & Massalama! p/s Wishing all fellow Muslim anglers....RAMADHAN KAREEM! Tight Lines, Screeming Reel & Bent Rods BUT ..... SAFETY FIRST! ALWAYS WEAR YOUR LIFE JACKETS whenever fishing on a boat!!!!! |

Hi Musa, You could get the crystal minnow from the shops in Deira. They would cost you between AED 15-25. If you want to know the exact location, feel free to contact me. U have my number. Yes, a ten pound line with a light rod and reel would be efficiet. However, the distance that you could cover depends on practice. I have not done alot of casting, however I have caught 1 barracuda weighing around 1-1.5kgs using a 80gm Halco lure using a 20 pound line. Distance always incrase with practice. rgds |

KD, You could try out trolling with minnow lures. Additionally you could also try live baiting. I believe people have good cathces while trolling via kayaks in & around the palm. You should give that a try as well. rgds |

yo kd...I dont really recommend fishing over there for one reason only...its that there are way too many rocks around and you WILL loose most if not all your tackle from the first cast! Im no pro fisherman but that area is jynxed! I suggest u still go out kayak fishing but try using a different rig, size hook, bait, presentation...after all u cant catch big fish with small ass hooks! To be honest with you im still experimenting on those new methods myself to see whats best for catchin the big ones so im going step by step with the max weight fish I caught being no heavier than 1 Kg, so if u get a hold of the proper technique to catch them king fish PLEASE let me know! (dont tell me trolling cuz i fucking hate that) |

I ususally kayak fish a couple hundred meters offshore using squid as bait but have only been catching small snapper. I am looking to catch some bigger fish such as barracuda, kingfish, queenfish, trevally, cobia, jack, etc. I want to try fishing from the rocks and peirs as well as from the shore. Anyone who does this kind of fishing, could you please tell me what rigging you use, what bait, lures, etc. are used to catch fish from the rock piers and shore. What is the usual catch from these areas and how do i catch them? Thanks |

Ijlal, that is interesting. The fish I am catching look identical to the mutton snapper. Same color tones and even have the distinctive spot on their back. But who knows, you could be right. Furthermore, do you know any good spots (coordinates) that are within kayaking distance where fish are known to hang out? |

Hi KD, The fish you have mentioned is Sh'ari - due to vast diverse expatriate work force in the UAE, many Arabic words have sort of lost their true pronunciation, so will accept it as Sherry. Please note Sherry is Spangled Emperor, not mutton snapper. We do not have mutton snapper around these parts. The two fish are not even closely related, though I agree they do have certain visual similarities. Just my two cents... Tight lines! Ijlal |

I routinely kayak fish in Dubai around the Dubai Marine Piers. I usually have no luck and just bring up tons small sherry (Mutton snapper.) I want to try fishing from the rocks on the piers. Do any of you do this already? What is the usual catch? What sort of fishing do you do (bait, lures, etc) from the rocks. Also, if anyone knows any good spots to kayak fish from, it would be greatly appreciated. If possible, provide coordinates. |

Thanks Amir and Abdul! Im into bottom fishing. Never really done trolling before so ill leave that for later...Im going to do this around the end of august because I have to go back to university after that By the way Fellows...A little nice spot I found Just today which is very convenient for Dubai residents! One of the fronds at the palm jumairah is Completely empty! You can enter there with no security on the way! Havnt really tried out fishing there yet but the palm has a good reputiation of being a good fishing ground due to all the artificial reefs built around it! The frond is J... I couldnt really see a sign so u might need to add or subtract a letter to find it...Who ever goes please do your best not to get noticed. We dont want them security closing it up on the rest of us... cyaz. |

Hi Musa, Are you looking for the charter for bottom fihsing or trolling. There is a guy in Deira dubai, would give you the number tomorrow. He goes for bottom fishing. However, going out boat fihsing now would not be very effective. Wait till oct as thats when the season kicks off here. |

Hello...I would appreciate it if someone could refer me to a fishing charter or a boat rental fellow so that me and my pals can go sea fishing...Fishing charters that I have found online charge on average 3000 dhs for 4 hours and that is completely ridiculous...Im looking for something which wouldnt cost more than 200 per person for about 5 6 people, even if we have to bring everything ourselves...Thank you. |
