Kevin; Based on Seeker's report and the latest chlorophyll I think you would need to go to the outside of the elbow which is about 65nm. Too bad Seeker didn't see the chloro shot before he went today. Bet he would have picked a different route. The chloro shot on Terrafin was just as he described the actuals.. |

went out 23 miles to 20/20 and hit 59 deg dirty water for 1 bonita - trolled to out to the 40 line both up and down 5 miles off the 20 line - all dirty water, some so bad it looked like a red tide. Not much life for 60.5 deg water - but a lot of bait down at 100-200 feet. Not sure if it was full moon or the dirty water or just NO fish. Didn't see any life out there, or jumpers - but a beautiful day on the water. |

Fished for rockfish today at PSL 160 to 240ft between Diablo and Pecho. Slow pick 1/2 limits. Beautful weather no wind and the swell layed down.On another subject' last year rockfishing closed on Nov.30 this year it is Nov 15. Could it be Julia Packard and her merry band of theives had any thing to do with robbing us of the two weeks. What is in store for next year? |

Has anyone looked at Terrafin, I just looked at tempbreak and the warm water is moving back in. Does Terrafin have a good Chlorophyll. Looks like 61 degree water 14 miles out of morro. If it keeps improving I am thinking about making a run on Thurs. Kevin (KATMANDU) |

If Anthony's no expert, there isn't one. It's been said, "Better lucky than good". But no one is that lucky either! Go by and pick his brain for all you can get. Was blackcod fishing the other night and sure saw some interesting marks due west at 20 miles. 200 ft deep and just like tuna. Did not fish it was dark and had to set. But I don't think it's completely over yet either. |

Steve They are hard to catch and if you got four your first time out you did well even if they were short. Its all about making mistakes and learning from them. Its also about maximizing your efforts, ie location. Im no expert but I have caught a few bugs in 27 years of diving. I heard you came by my shop the other day to get ready to dive, stop by again sometime and I will be happy to share some info. I would do it here but it could eat up some band width. I swear those guys in Santa Barbara only fish rockfish...If any exodic's go on the chew they report rockfish...Channel Islands has more boats and fish all species...No exodic's yesterday after the wind but lots of veriety... I forgot Crab & Lobster...LAT... |

Cracka; One thing for sure you'll like about the Islands is theres more variety...Not just the bottom grabbers...Its still possible to catch Yellowtail, White seabass, Black seabass (realease), Halibut and the 3 B's (bass, bonita, baracuda)...Perch, Pargo, and Shark. And the triangle from W.End Catalina, Santa Barbara Is. and S. Anacapa is a great late season Marlin spot...Tunas & Dorado did I leave anything out? Oh yeah the canyons on the backside of Santa Cruz is where Monster Blufin have been spotted Have Fun!!! |

My dear Mr. Blackstone (HA HA!!), I told ya I caught an 11 inch BLACK PERCH right at the North end of North Point, right? Caught it on a Berkley Gulp 2" Baby Shrimp in New Penny color on a carolina rig! Not a very tasty fish but it'd be right up your alley with dunking it in a deep fryer! Had to cook the hell out of it to keep if from being mushy! Semper Fi.

Finally Went Rockfish Purisima Fri 10/30 ,2 of us. lots of leftover slop from night/days before, ran about 18knots+/-. fish and structure on meter. Started very very slow with a few gophers released, wind shifted to the southeast and blew offshore pretty hard, spray going backwards off the chop. drift changed direction 3 times and then calmed down good . WE eventually got the bolinas to bite. ended up keeping about 12bolinas 2gopher,2reds. Jim B also got 1 ling 27"+ 1fat green cabezon wind came up a bit about 1pm. ran up to sal and it was calmer. there were about 5boats fishing sal . we dropped lines an got only 1 more bolina and a bunch of tiny small "no see ums" bites. Came home PSL in good conditions. good day on water, had to work for the fish. inshore Water temp 55.6f in AM , dull green. |

I made a solo run up to Ragged Point yesterday. The reds were hard to find. I wound up with alimit of assorted rock fish and a couple of 30 inch lings. I then went off shore to look around. I went to 45 and 35 where there was a 2 degree temp break from57.5 to 59.6 the water cleared to a blue green. There was lots of diving birds working bait that was being pushed up by something. I trolled and I soaked bait for nothing. I didn't have much time to give it a real good try. I have caught albacore in greener water. I wouldn't be a bit surprised if someone would find some albacore or bluefin out there. |

With the Bottom Fishing closing down I dont blame anyone for fishing them! Go clean house and then wait and see what the water looks like offshore in the coming weeks. With the limited time to fish rockfish, I think it is the smart call if your freezer is empty. I dont believe that Bill left town with the Pac Queen because he felt the season was over. That boat lives in SoCal and SD (Where his clientel is!!) ... Morro weather leaves him stuck in the harbor with a boat and crew making NADA! When his clients are not driving north to fish because of weather, there is not reason to be up here. Looks like a few nice days of weather .... Hope those big Reds are a plenty and then the water cleans up for those looking to venture offshore. I will be on the beach fishing perch to get my fix. |

Dustin I would agree , they are out there , BUT when the EXPERTS have left for SD what would you think are the chances of me with my puny boat with only 3,000 worth of fish finding gear finding them , not to mention, we only have a 400 mile range , I think they no something we do nt know. I think the bottom fishing will be wide open the next three weeks , and then we can concentrate on the perch , Im gonna spend about two weeks at JALAMA and im gonna catsh the elusive BLACK PERCH if it kills me , or I walk to point conception. Hope your right dustin , but we will see. Blackie |

Greetings, Fished PSL today. Had a tough start finding my battery dead (charger wasn't hooked up!) so we took the battery out of my buddies car...after a bit of delay we head out N of the breakwater. Deke had no bait and we couldn't find any bait balls, so we drifted squid and swimbaits until about 12:30. South wind in the morning, then shifted NW around noon. No halibut today, but a steady pick on rockfish. Ended the day with 2 nice lings (26-28"), 4 gophers, 1 black, 1 blue, 4 bolina, 1 kelp greenling, and 1 sand sole. Nice day on the water. Dustin I have seen corbina from the Gaviota pier quite a few times. They are just behind the surfline and of course the water has to be clear. Being on the pier gives you a birds eye view. Mike |

Months that Pratt speaks is gospel. Also find the larger model fish on the beach are from Jalama beach North. the bonus south of Jalama is the Corbina, which I still have not had the pleasure to sight fish. Heading over to fish a couple hours today before kids are out of school .... update later. D |

Good Morning, Harrell... hey my radio seemed to work great last weekend but I never finished doing the set up... It said there is a 9 digit number on the radio (MMSI #) that I need to register online... There is 2 sets numbers on the radio but neither are 9 digits... and 1 is the FCC #. Is the FCC # the one there looking for? Thanx Paul |

Hugh, they are around all year but if I had my druthers every month would be as good as March, April, and May....those are the months when I've seen the biggest preggo females on the beaches....and when I've caught all of my biggest fish. |

I doubt if Deke will have bait...has anyone seen any good bait balls out of PSL in the past week? guys were catching nothing off the peir last week. thanks, steve |

OK, Hugh, I'm listening....I've caught many waves right between the two big toes in that picture you posted...and it seems as if you keep your toenails manicured so I guess you're all right!! The days of big blacks under the old ab processing plant on the end of Stearns were before my time (I moved here to go to UCSB in 1976 and never left), and so were the epic steelie runs on the SY River....but I've caught trout up towards Juncal, and on the Manzana and Sisquoc as well...so I'd love to see any archival stuff you may have....and, if you guys want to put together a surf fishing weekend or island weekend, we down her are ready to pitch in. By the way, are you related to Michael McCaffrey, an ex-student of mine? He'd be close to 30 by now. |
