Febuary / March 2006

Weather over this period in Madeira was a little more unpredictable than usual, bringing several storms and some really windy, wet days, limiting our time on the water somewhat. However dry dock maintainance was completed in between this weather with no unexpected hiccups insuruing that both Lara Jade & Margarita are painted, serviced, varnished and looking great for the coming season.

While the wind and waves did their best to halt the fishing we still managed to get a good amout of Big Eye Tuna averaging 25lbs or so in the few spells of decent weather.

The end of March bought us a pleasant surprise, the first White Marlin of the season, on Lara jade, skippered by Joćo Santos, with Angler Mr Holger, tagged and released, the Marlin weighed in at approx 55lbs.

hello guys!
I am planning hols in madeira and like to know if there is any chance to catch fish within a mile from the shore with light tackle either spin or fly. I intend to rent a boat for this and I wonder if there is any companies where I can hire a 5mt boat with suitable engine.
many thanks
Max

Subject: Fishing in Madeira

Madeira Portugal
Why is it that a captain and a boat has to use the text from a years old brochure to promote fishing for his business. The original text does not even apply to fishing on the boat that he presently owns.
I leave you with your own thoughts on the honesty of this boat owner.

Subject: Fishing 2003

Dear Mr. Johnson,

I'm a marlin fisherman from the Netherlands and I've fished in 2000 on the Margarita with captain Richard Howell and mate Ricardo (please give them my regards). I'll be back in Madeira in the summer of 2003 and want to book a couple of day's again. I only want to fish on the Margarita with Richard as a captain. I have a strong believe in him and the boat and I like the Englisman. They got me a nice marlin in 2000 and I still want to get a shot at "The Grander" (who doesn't?). In my opninion Madeira is the best option. I normaly like fishing on to the full moon. Do you agree for the Madeira fishing?
I would like to know how the marlin fishing was in 2001 and 2002. Is it still improving? Was there enough bait arround?
Please contact me by e-mail.

With kind regards,

Marc van den Boomen
