I will be fishing San Antonio Lake tomorrow. Apparently the stripers have the shad pushed into the dock area of south shore. I plan to fly line some live bait below any bait balls I can find. Will post if I catch anything worth mentioning

Thank`s Cloud, I just got off the phone with Wayne Shaw on this same subject.Franko and some of the boys down south were ragging on our approach, well ours was the most honest one as they are finding out.Alan Alwards viewpoint in the trib hit the nail on the head. I was interviewed by Christine Fernandez from UCSB about the financial fallout and what areas would hurt us the most of course this is what they closed. I was running the water taxi at the time and peripheral businesses suffer also. This is a corrupt process. I wish the BBQ was a Tea party, we need Glenn Beck.

Warning: Political post about MLPA. Don't wanna hear it? Stop right here and move on.

Darby as usual you are right on the money.

As thought all along, it's been proven beyond any reasonable doubt the MLPA process and results were bought and paid for long before the 1st meeting was held. It's been made even more obvious now that even the "mighty" S. Coast got rail-roaded, just like we did, like Bob Franko/Coastside and his group did, and like the North coast and SF Bay will soon find out. The Stakeholders input has been, and continues to be a "show". Window dressing.

I sure hope Bob Franko sees this. The critisism of our/CCFCC approach was undeserved. Coastside's supposedly "different approach" was really not that different at all, I followed it closely. Still the same result--railroaded. Damage control at best.

Personally, I am still livid that our freedom can be taken so easily. Freedom that shouldn't be taken lightly; Freedom paid for with the blood and lives of the vets we honor.

Maybe when the larger population finally "gets it" will there be the outrage needed. Maybe when some kid (or parents) get charged with taking a starfish from an MLPA reserve and media has the guts to uncover the MLPA for what it really is--a Major Lie Perpetrated Against *All* citizens.

OK rant almost done. No apologies except one: I am sorry for all the time and effort wasted by many really good people and the toll it took on their lives. MEL, Darby, Eric, Harold, Ben Sleeter, countless others I can't name. Thanks once again to you all. Cloud out

Here's a partial report of our latest trip to Baja, you can read the whole report at: http://forums.bajanomad.com/viewthread.php?tid=42357

After leaving La Paz, we drove to Loreto to spend one night, then on to
Bahia Asuncion on the Pacific side. I wanted Shelley to spend a few days to
unwind from what had been a hot and extremely busy four weeks driving down and
working every day, sometimes until 9 PM or so. We arrived in BA on Thursday
afternoon and set up camp at Shari and Juan's Campo Sirena. Our 5th wheel was
perched on a bluff overlooking a huge bay on the Pacific Ocean. We relaxed for
a couple of days, then I unloaded the inflatable boat that my buddy Dennis
Linders loaned me. I put on the 7 HP outboard and the next morning headed out
to the edge of the island, about 2 miles from our camp. One of the locals,
Kevin, went out at the same time in his Hobie Mirage drive kayak. Anyways, the
outboard must have gotten jossled around on some of the rough dirt roads we had
been on, and by the time I got to the island the motor kept popping out of gear.
Finally, it stopped going into gear completely, so I took it apart as much as I
could to see if I could get it to work, but no go. So there I was, stuck and
waiting for Kevin to return (he was farther off shore fishing). I decided to
drop a line in and try for Calico bass, but to no avail. After about 30 minutes
a pangero and his buddy came by in their panga and they gave me a tow back to
the camp. While they were pulling me, the one guy drops out a line and starts
trolling, so I motioned to the skipper if I could do the same and he shook his
head yes. Within about 2 minutes I had an 8 lb (or so) yellowfin tuna, so we
circled back 2 more times over the same area to try again. I ended up getting
hit once more, but the fish "bit and spit" and we returned to the camp. I
didn't have my wallet with me, so I gave the guys 2 new Rapala and 1 new Mirro
lures. They were pretty stoked.
The next day I ended up going out with 2 guys who were renting the beach
house next to us. They were from New Mexico and great company. We ended up
with several yellowfin, yellowtail, calico bass, and 1 dorado (mahi-mahi). The
pangero we went out with had a 22' Boston Whaler, a great boat for fishing. He
cleaned all of our fish and put them in his freezer to deep freeze until we
left. Some of the other guys staying at another beach house were doing some
shore fishing, so Shelley and I joined them for several bouts of surf fishing
for Corbina. Shelley got hooked! She didn't want to go out on a boat due to
her recent back surgery, but she sure got into catching these fish. They make
great fish tacos as well as ceviche, and we caught a ton of them.
After about a week, Woody and his wife Bia arrived in camp. I went fishing
with them and Shari's husband, Juan. He's a abalone diver with the local Co-op
and a pangero as well. We had a great time and caught a ton of yellowfin,
yellowtail, and calico. Woody and I stayed up until late that night vacuum
sealing the fillets, then put them in the freezer that Shari has at the
campground. Shari ended up talking Shelley into adopting a bob tail manx,
siamese type, with jack rabbit back legs. We named it "Paz"ifico as Shelley was
enjoying one of the more popular Mexican beers at the time of adoption. We
continued living the easy life on the beach for 15 nights before I finally
convinced Shelley that we had to get home. We had a margarita party one night
with others from the campground and rental houses and my "PB Margies" were a
hit, at least judging by the hangovers I saw the next morning.
We headed out in the morning, hoping to get as far as San Quintin. As we
were passing through the middle of the desert near the Laguna Chapala cutoff, I
see no other than "Coco" coming out onto Mex. 1 in his white pickup, towing a
car with a chain. I hung a "U" turn and stopped to talk to him and deliver some
ointment (Dr. Bob calls it "snake oil") that Bob had given me to drop off at the
Desert Inn in Catavina for Coco. He is going to try it to see if he can detach
the adherent scar on his residual limb, although he's convinced, as am I, that
surgical intervention in necessary. We arrived in San Quintin early that
evening, and I dropped of some parts and a prosthesis at the Flying Sams clinic.
We ate dinner at the Cielito Lindo that night, Shelley opting for their famous
cracked crab dinner. I had jumbo shrimp stuffed with crabmeat and wrapped in
bacon, so much for my watching my cholesterol.
The next day we crossed back into the US at Otay Mesa and were going to
visit with our daughter Courtney and her husband Jonathan, but they had an appointment with the real estate
finance folks for their upcoming purchase of a house in Poway. We continued on
up the coast and camped at San Clemente, then on to our home in Margaritaville
the next day. That's about it, I know I've left out a lot, but after almost 7
weeks on the road things just seem to all blend together and become somewhat
blurry, (like a good Margarita should do). Vaya con Dios muchachos, Paul and
Shelley

BBQ thanks. Advance appologies for missing most names. feel free to post what you or your frieinds brought because there was so much.
Please forgive any oversights as there were so many people that contributed and helped, and I was not able to write down or memorize hardly anyones names & items or assistance. Especially later in the day ,when the crowd arrived.
Archie and Chris from Central Coast Seafood Surprised us right away with The batch of live shrimp for the bbq, We grilled them then dipped them into seasoned butter/beer/wine mixture and served hot. Bill Hardisty brought a Giant tray of Turkey wraps that really helped later in the day when we got WAY behind in cooking the meats.
Calvin and his wife and 2daughters helped cut, serve, raffle and keep Jim B and I more organized.
Marty Got us Boatyard hats to wear and raffle + provided the extra ice and Pit #2.
Many of you brought extra meat, cookies, ribs, chicken, rice, wood,
beer,soda,potato salad, salsa,peppers,brownies,
salad, pasta salads, Paper plates plastic utensils, smoked fish, napkins, punch, etc etc.
Were truly grateful for all contributions and the attendance. Been there Caught that Donated the raffle tickets, the gift certificates the rockcod rigs and tackle items, Jim either donated or collected the Wine and Art & misc raffle items. Boatyard Donated extra Whopper launches. Webmaster/moderater Bob Hather visited many of you and listened to suggestions & thanks.
My Brother provided the utility trailer, the capt'n n Cola, the cleanup labor, litter cleanup, the paintbals for martys Sea lion repelant patrol. He may save your baot someday.
Many of you got to meet each other and the port crew for the first time without a vhf Radio in between or a rush to get in or out the water.
Marty,Dell,Homer,Bob,Deke, and PSL harbor patrol all were here. Thank you all again. DFG Was on duty and invited but I didnt see them personally.
Many expressed interest in a Fish fry next year near the season opener. we will cross that bridge when we get nearer.
Most seemd to enjoy it enough to want to do it next season It seemed (15th is Monday next year, mayeb 14th?)If we have a season at all?
Marty Told Jim this morning that we didnt leave a mess or create any problems and thanked all of us for the support. A few large ling were caught Sunday, including one maybe 23-24#Monster Ling taking the Whopper prize despite some experiencing a slow bite.
Thanks again all, we enjoyed hosting it, we hope you enjoyed attending. If we hold "it" again we will have a "name the barbeque" contest. a few have suggested other events including the halibut derby BBQ and hopefully someday a salmon season event?

Hey, guys - thanks for the replies. Mr. Stewart, I can sympathize with you on the frustration. I too have much salmon fishing gear doing absolutely nothing in my garage. There is an unsubstantiated rumor of an open salmon season in 2010. And I agree with Mr. Bateman that the whole process is really nothing short of covert politics. I think they probably have enough salmon every year to supply organizations like ours. I am surmising that it just so happens that their budget sucks worse than usual this coming year. There are times I question my involvement in the CCSE. But, I have to make myself believe that augmenting the salmon population - no matter how it is done, is the only way to help the fisherman's cause. Be it sportsmen or commercial fishermen. If by some chance somebody with the ability to make a difference, makes the decision that there are somehow more salmon out there than usual - perhaps it will better our chances of having an open salmon season. To update you all on the recent offer by the CDFG, we are working on getting back funding that we gave back due to no salmon to grow/release this the past two years. At this point, it appears to be a strong possibility. If CCSE is able to reactivate the funding source, at this point the allotted funds would just about pay for the tagging of the fish. We will still need help with items such a pen repair, salmon feed, volunteer help to feed the fish, and boat support during pen rearing. For now, the best way to call F&G’s bluff (If you will) is to try and come up with the funding and take each step as it comes. Otherwise, we do nothing and nothing happens. If we are able to get the tagging funding, then we will reach out to the fishing community for help in these other areas. At that point, you all can decide if you want to support the pen rearing program or not. So would it have been better for us to refuse the offer? I think it is a matter of opinion. On behalf of the CCSE, I thank all of you who have supported us over the years. I am hoping for all of us that we have an open salmon season in 2010. I will update you all as information becomes available.

Just a little ATTA BOY to VIRGS landing for aanother fine closing day trip , T and I fished aboard the PRINCESS , with skipper Brad , we fished the 6 to 6 long range tripto the north .
I think there were 19 aboard and there were limits of big reds for all , and some bonus lings.
Great way to end the year and I did not have to wash the boat or clean my fish.

Thanks for the BBQ guys. Fished in the AM and came in at 11:30 or so. Fishing was slow for us out deep. But a nice, calm day on the water. Came in more shallow and was checked by DFG. They were the best in our case! Let us go with a warning, don't ask me what for! Never will happen again. Be careful out there as the regs. are sometimes difficult to understand. These wardens were too cool! Will try to get out for some Halibut untill May!!! WOW!!! Tim

It would have been nice to meet more people at the BBQ. I will be back someday. It really is a good group of people up there. Thanks for all of the support on this board. Jim,
Looking forward to the BBQ and meeting everyone tomorrow, Calvin Cobb, Steve and Travis Soule have asked me RSVP for them. See everyone tomorrow.

Report for Saturday.
Wanted to run to Purisma, but Ran to Pt Sal today knowing it was going to get very snotty this afternoon. Bite was wide open on Ling Cod, 3 of us easily caught 12 legal lings, and about 15 shorts, we were careful to release all we didn’t keep. Ended up keeping 6 lings form 26-29 inch’s and about 15 rockfish noting really big. Weather was absolutely awful coming home we had to run home about 7-10 MPG. Took about 1.5 hours to get in and it was wet, and a lot of large breakers, the party boat and another private boat were way behind us running in from Purisma wonder how they did. Trolled feathers about 10 miles form Sal to a little before the Red light hoping to get into some Bonito None. Rough weather but still a very fun day on the water….

Jim B is busy right now so I will post for him, hoping not to step on his sizeable but generous toes. He's got Prarie cod (tritip), Sausages ,Meaty Pinquito Beans,Sourdough, and whatever else you guys are bringing. the "get together " doesent even have a formal name. So....
See you all at the End of Rockfish season PSL fishermens and freinds BYOB/ free BBQ etc., Even got a passing mention on the AM radio fishing show by 'BTCT' tackle shop that donated a bunch of little items to Jim to raffle or something.
remember 2 bring your own Beverages, chairs, plates, forks, napkins etc.
dont really know if we will see 44 or 144+ of us spread throughout the day. WebModerater Bob Hather says he will attend too. Marty Is being very accomodating as well.
Thanks to the guys that Emailed Jim with side dishes and head counts.
Stop in when you get back from fishing or just come on in, weather you are a lurker who just reads fish reports, a member who posts , a person that fishes here regularly,an old timer, a boatyard or launch hand, bait seller, seal chaser etc. If the BBQ is fun it may become annual, If its a flop, Jim & I Eat tri tip sandwiches all winter.good either way.
Thanks in advance and hope to see you there.

Eveing All
Sorry I haven't posted in a while but lotta crap goin on down here with the district policies. We think (hope) we'll have them rectified by next season. Most of you know that we have the whopper of the week that gives the biggest fish of the week a free launch. Being the last weekend for the rockcod season in '09 we will be giving 5 launches to the big fish ending Sunday.
We will work on things over the winter to try and make things go smoother and more fisherman friendly for the 2010 season. Hopefully we have some salmon too. I want to thank all of you for the support this year and hope to make it better season next year. I'll be posting throughout the offseason with ideas and would like your opinions. Well Good Fishin to all and see ya'll and the Port. Oh yeah BBQ Sunday for those who can make it.

Paul, there were fishable days for rockfish later in this season, dont let the forecasts scare you off of morning fishing. just dont go to purisima and stay til afternoon whitcaps come up.
offshore days for tuna were quite limited however. weekend looks fishable in mornings at least. On some days we just go northwest a bit and let wind blow us home.

Maybe I'll fish for sanddabs this winter untill they close it as well.

Well said B.A., Will, I know that most everyone on this board myself included (Darby,Bob H.,etc, etc) Have had it with this MLPA, State F&G (Read Packard Foundation)... Stickin it to us...Im not seeing fisherman & fisherwoman being in a cooperative sprit...We have a right to feel the way we do... We've been provoked to not trust any inviro-Kooks I mean State Agencys...I cant believe there is no way to reverse the MLPA madness with a law suit... Its crazy rock fishing is only closed for what Jan.-Feb. from pt. conception to Mex. with all that pressure in the so. cal bight. And the amount of fishable days vs. our area...We are closed 5 mo. I cant remember did the wind ever stop since spring... Not very many days...I think I can safely say that fisherpersons north to south. Will Not cooperate at all until the state starts un-doing the thing it hase done these last years...F!#k Um... See ya at the BBQ...

Lower Numbers of Fall Chinook Salmon Returning to Battle Creek

by Dan Bacher

Preliminary data released by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service today indicates the number of adult fall run chinook salmon returning this season to Battle Creek, a tributary of the Sacramento River, is roughly only 60 percent of what returned last year.

Roughly 8,000 adult fall Chinook salmon have returned to Battle Creek this year, according to Scott Hamelberg, Project Leader for the Coleman National Fish Hatchery in Anderson, California. Of those, a little more than 5,000 have entered the hatchery’s fish ladder and were used during the spawning season.

About 14,000 returned to Battle Creek with nearly 10,000 entering the hatchery in 2008, the year when the lowest number of Chinook salmon in history returned to the Sacramento River. Scientists estimated that only 66,264 natural and hatchery adult fall Chinooks returned to the Sacramento River basin in 2008.

“The numbers of fall Chinook salmon returning to Battle Creek this year have been a great disappointment,” said Hamelberg. “We will continue to operate the fish ladder into December and collect eggs when we can.”

Hamelburg said eggs are collected from the returning adults in order to produce juvenile fish that will be reared at the hatchery and released the following year. So far this year, hatchery workers have collected just shy of 12 million eggs, 3 million short of the 15 million eggs required to produce 12 million juveniles.

With the number of eggs collected to date, Hamelberg expects about 10 million juveniles will be ready for release this spring, about 85 percent of what is normally released by the hatchery. With a 1 percent survival rate of these juveniles, which is what is generally expected, about 100,000 adult salmon would result from this release and be available for fishing and broodstock needs in 2012.

The service said the reasons for this year’s reduced salmon return to Battle Creek "are not yet known."

“The juvenile fall run Chinook were released as two groups two and half years ago and preliminary data shows that returning adult fish from the second release group are nearly absent from this year’s return,” said Jim Smith, Project Leader at the Red Bluff Fish and Wildlife Office. “We will be examining data over the next few months to determine possible causes, and to ensure greater probability of successful returns in future years.”

Although the state and federal government have claimed that "ocean conditions" are the primary cause of the collapse in recent years, the latest data appears to contradict this claim, since the fish that are returning to Battle Creek and the Sacramento River now went to sea after ocean conditions had improved. A coalition of fishing groups, Indian Tribes, environmentalists and independent scientists have pointed to increased water exports from the Delta and deteriorating water quality in recent years as primary causes of the Central Valley salmon collapse.

Commercial and recreational fishing for chinook salmon was closed in ocean waters off California and most of Oregon in 2008. The ban continued this year, with the exception of a 10 day season off California's North coast in late August and early September.

Salmon fishing in Central Valley rivers is also closed this year, with the exception of a limited recreational fishery season for late fall chinook salmon - a separate run from fall run chinook - on a stretch of the Sacramento River starting November 16.

From Nov. 16 through Dec. 31, 2009, the fishery will be open on the Sacramento River from 150 feet below the Lower Red Bluff (Sycamore) Boat Ramp to the Highway 113 bridge at Knights Landing. The daily bag and possession limit is only one salmon. In April, the Fish and Game Commission approved this very limited fishing opportunity due to the "present stable status of the late-fall run."

"This fishery provides very limited access to late-fall run Chinook, which are presently not listed as threatened or endangered at either the federal or state level," according to a news release from the California Department of Fish and Game. "The season will open after the fall run has migrated upstream past this section of river, and before the winter run arrives. The rest of the Central Valley basin, including the Sacramento, Feather, American and San Joaquin rivers and their tributaries, will remain closed to salmon fishing."

The salmon closures have resulted in a loss of 23,000 jobs to the California economy, according to data from the American Sportfishing Association.

Coleman National Fish Hatchery was constructed in 1942 to partially off-set the impacts of the construction Shasta and Keswick dams. The hatchery is located on Battle Creek, approximately three miles east of the Sacramento River and 20 miles southeast of Redding, Calif. Each year, Coleman NFH produces approximately 12 million fall Chinook salmon, 250,000 winter Chinook salmon, and 600,000 steelhead trout

The fact that we were raising and releasing salmon for 20 years into the bay at PLS made no difference to DFG when they closed our season also. Which brings up the question: How are the returns this year on the Sacramento? Will we be able to fish salmon next spring? They know that the low numbers of returning fish were not due to fishing pressure, but will they ever give back what they have taken away? I am with B.A. Stewart at this point. I would change my mind if we were given back a salmon season...

Kohei, Ive given a few bucks and prizes over the years to CCSE as many of us have , but kindly explain to us why we want to help ,when we wont likely be allowed to catch any of these fish or their possible future spawn? I like CCSE but ive got a couple thousand bucks in downriggers, barbless hooks, nets, rods, reel, hoochies, baiters, releases, divers, leaders, line, sin kers, sounders, and other gear gathering dust plus the share of the boat justification that was dedicated to occaisional salmon fishing. DFG Higher ups are Too "political" and FG commission seems Beholden to enviro kooks. They didnt shorten our season or cut out limit to one or lengthen the minimum legal. they just closed us down. Im not in the mood to put seal food into the bay right now taggeed or not. But im all ears if you can make a convincing case beyon my love of fish and wildlife as to why we would want to do that. does it really improve our chances of getting to fish in the next 2 -3 years?
just venting frustration

Hi, all - the CDFG has decided to allocate king salmon fry to Central Coast Salmon Enhancement this year - about 140,000 or so. However, we are being asked to pay for the tagging of these fish. Our resources are very limited. If any of you would care to donate - please contact the CCSE office at (805)473-8211 / Sarah Paddack.

I look forward to seeing those who can make it to the Port on Saturday. I have valued all the posts this season. Its been very disappointing to witness the actions of a bunch of well intended idiots reduce the fishing opportunity so drastically over the years. We have tried to present facts which they ignore, offered science and continued financial resources for further studies which they wouldn't accept and accurately predicted the negative consequences of their regulations to no avail. How stupid could it be that by catching 5 tons of canaries in a year will shut down an industry when the sea lions take 20 million lbs. of fish per day? Lets have some fun on Saturday.

"Well said Darby"
Too many people are only willing to defend rights that are personally important to them. It's selfish ignorance, and it's exactly why totalitarian governments are able to get away with trampling on people. Freedom does not mean freedom just for the things I think I should be able to do. Freedom is for all of us. If people will not speak up for other people's rights, there will come a day when they will lose their own.

By the way, any country where you can publicly say what you think is wrong with it without worrying about getting beat up, arrested or worse is still a great country!! I am proud to be an American and proud of our armed forces. Thank you to our military for what you are doing for us. We'll do our best to fight for you here too.

Tim - Well I guess I owe you an apology then and a "Well said" instead!

Divide and conquer - That's exactly what they did and they were so arrogant as to even state that publicly in the beginning. There was so much corruption and they knew they could get away with a one sided "process". It's just sickening. They were smart enough to keep the illegal stuff under wraps though. Like calls to the commissioners the day before the vote on the brtf "preferred alternative" saying, "This vote is for the governor". Calls they didn't need to make to most of the commissioners but it did influence at least two of them who had political careers to think about. I believe this because I hunted with one of the commisioners back then a couple times and when I called him on a vote I know he didn't believe in he told me this and said,"Why fight a likely loosing vote and burn your political favors?" I told him that's why I would never make it as a politician and have never spoke to him since. I could tell you more stories but you'd just get more upset for no reason. Bob Hather could too, he was there. By the way Jeff asked Bob and I on the Dave Congleton show Nov 30th. Not sure what about except fishing stuff I'm sure.

But it is the trend in government today, "they know better than we do attitude". Arrogant holes. No longer "A government of the people, by the people, for the people . . ." that Lincoln said, ". . .shall not perish from the earth." (But then he also said,"We the people are the rightful masters of both Congress and the courts, not to overthrow the constitution but to overthrow those who pervert the constitution.") But the attitude today seems to be: "Constitution? We don't need no stinking constitution!" We are going back to the dark ages and dictators. If my history lessons are accurate, this same trend was evident in Germany before WWII. I love that line from the movie Patriot, "Why trade one dictator 3000 miles away for 3000 dictators 1 mile away?" (I'm sure it's a quote from one of our founding fathers) But that's what we have. But what am I doing, fishing season is still open and I'm going on like there's nothing to talk about!!! Have a great last weekend guys. Pack your freezers it's going to be a long winter. Weather's looking fair for Sunday.

Don't forget Dave's memorial Friday if you knew him. I just made 60 lbs of swiss style deer sausage for it.

Sea Weed, Bob Hattoy hijacked the DFG meeting and drew his own boundrys. He rammed it thru, It had nothing to do with our approach.

Darby I think what they did was to divide and conquer. So we should learn by this because next step is to stop all fishing. So when ever we see an attack no matter what county or state we should join the fight to stop the movement. ALL OF US FAILED EACH OTHER. As there were so many better options that could have been done.

Sorry if my point was missed, Darby.

What I should have said was "No shit, tell us something new!"

What happened down south was exactly what I expected and I'm sure exactly what the rest that have been through this knew would happen. The SoCal guys are up in arms, today.

Tim - what are you surprised? Good morning. Glad you finally woke up. Didn't you know they've already done exactly that here and up North! What did you expect? Does anyone really expect us here on the central coast to jump up and down about it when we could not get the most powerful sportfishing lobby in the state, the South, to come to one of our meetings when we were getting run over? (Not only that but they, led by Tom Raftican, financially supported the reserves!) But now that they get theirs and we are supposed to be upset for them? I'm must be a really self centered person because I just don't feel sorry for them. The rest of the state is already done.

For those who don't recall, several of us who post on this board spent nearly a year working with a very corrupt "state" process coming up with a plan for the Central Coast reserves that none of the interest groups liked (including us) - so it was probably a good compromise between everyone's goals. Then the BRTF threw it out and put in their "preffered option" that we never saw. Strangely, it was nearly the exact plan John Ugeritz showed Steve Moore and I over ten years ago in Port SLO when we laughed him out of the room. They've been working on this since before the Davis administration.

I talked to Deb Wilson Vandenberg (I think she's head of marine management now) last week who said there will be a review process coming up for revisions in a year or two. Don't hold your breath. DFG is still owned by the special interest group money.

Hmmmm...where have we seen this before?

From a Press Release....

Los Angeles, CA - November 10, 2009 - The Partnership for Sustainable Oceans (PSO), which represents recreational fishing and boating interests in California, today denounced a decision that could have a devastating effect on California's economy and the public's right to access the state's coastal waters.

Under the California Marine Life Protection Act (MLPA), California's South Coast Blue Ribbon Task Force (BRTF), appointed by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, today voted to send its own preferred alternative proposal to the state's Fish and Game Commission (FGC) that will close vast areas of the South Coast to public access, ignoring the impact this decision will have on the state's economy and budget. Particularly hard hit will be the Malibu, Orange County and San Diego County fishing communities. The recreational fishing and boating community supported Proposal 2, a proposal drafted in part by recreational and commercial fishermen and that provided significant additional conservation for California's ocean resources while minimizing the economic impact of lost fishing opportunity.

"By making this decision, the BRTF passed over the three proposals it earlier voted to send to the Fish and Game Commission that were created by 64 stakeholders who worked 14 months to create these three proposals under an ever changing set of guidelines," said Bob Fletcher, former president, Sportfishing Association of California, a regional stakeholder group member and PSO member. "Proposal 2 has a high conservation value that is relatively the same as other proposals but would have the least economic impact on Southern California, particularly San Diego where fishing and boating is an integral component of the local economy. The BRTF choose to ignore Proposal 2 in favor of its own version."

It goes on...
