KD Rapala, Time is half hour before dawn or half hour before the second tide comes in. Make sure you carry your fishing gear along with you. Place is Jumeirah Break Waters. Try to cast in places where you think or feel there will be fish. Have some patience and you will get a strike. If it still doesn't work, retrieve the line and tie it around your neck and cast yourself in the waters and try swimming deep and when you see a barracuda hit it with your fly. Catch it by the neck and get him back LOL. Salamat |

Hey abdul. I wanted to do some jigging but Amir told me that the waters I was going to wasnt that deep. 15-25 meters. We reached to some oil rigs and it was around 20 kms from shore. Also I have never tried jigging in my life. Went to a fishing store and saw all those "Jigs" but they were all of diff. shapes and sizes and i didnt know which one to choose or how to even use them. I will probably go again soon so if you could tell me the basics abdul id appreciate it. Like if you could tell me the name of a certain jig and how exactly to use it. Amir, Sardines as for chum or for actual bait? Happy new years everyone and GOOD FISHING!!! |

Ha ha ha LOL. The prick KD Rapala is pissed off. I am loving this. I hope he goes with his kayak deep into the sea and get drowned and the fish laugh at his skiny arse. If I am arround whist you are drowning I'll hit you with a 10 lb lead sinker so that you sink faster LOL. Diskheads like you are not welcome on this web site. Back off dude no body likes you. Its time you apologize to everyone and enjoy some good fishing. People please excuse me for my language but this dude really provoked me. Adieus |

Hey Amir. The trip was great. recomend it to everyone. Suprb weather and caught some nice fish. One of them was a 3 kg cat fish. the other was a 750 grams sherry. my friend caught a sherry prolly around 4+ kilos. We all used basic line bottom fishing with frozen squid as bait that was supplied by the boat. Will post up some pictures soon. Tried retrieving my lure for an hour with no luck at all. Was dying for a big barracuda or a king fish. Want to do this again soon, but will go there better prepared next time (read up the forum on using lures). costed 100 dirhams a person for 5 hours (7 people), well worth it. |

Musa, Just tell him that you are not a first timer and he should take you to deep waters. Specially near one of the oil riggs. Also if there is no action in any one spot then do not waste more the 15-20 minutes as if theres no action then it wouldnt be there even after 2 hours. Additionally, once you feel a spot is giving good results, then after 10 minutes tell the boat guys to turn around and get back to the same spot as the boat is not anchored and drifts away from where you had initially stopped. if any help feel free to call me. Hey Ijlal ! Yes, indeed I am away for some time, taking our very own KD on a course entitled "Basic Kayak Fishing and Good Manners". Expect me back on or around April 1st :-) Thanks for the kind wishes, actually my freezer is almost out of kings and dorado, will aim for a fat one early in the New Year, though my sights are on a juicy tuna off the kayak in Musandam - last one I hooked up 2 weeks ago took me on a 1km sleigh ride, 10x more fun than Santa and his reindeers could conjure up!! Season's Greetings and Happy New Year to all! Tight lines!!! R |

Shahzad is a nice chap indeed; he gave me some tips on luring rods recently and I'm going through his posts on fishingnewsroom (dating back to 2005) currently :o) Btw, what kind of rigs do you use for live baiting; I know of only the cable car rig ...Please do share the techniques you use... |

Hi Russel, Thanks buddy. The fish in the pics were all caught from Ajman breakwater, which my dear friend Shahzad (top right in the pics, with big queenfish) showed me. You too can catch such fish, not just in Ajman, but from almost any breakwater. All you need to perfect is the ability to catch live bait from wherever you fish and to rig it properly. Take care, Ijlal |

Guys if you are looking for a good charter contact Capt. Sultan on 0506355257 he is a good friend of mine and has one of the best fishing boats around. He goes out from Marbella Resort in Sharjah. He has specially saved spots for King, Queens, Trolling and bottom fishing especially light jigging for Jesh and Sherri. On one crazy day we were catching while trolling, casting, jigging and even when just retrieving! Check out the GPS . . . give him a shout and go catch yourself some fish. You may give my reference because he just might give you good rates and take me out for some free trips for posting this advertisement ļ Keep the line tight . . . Ashley

Musa, Ritchie has given you the perfect advise on the fishing charters. Not sure which guy u plan to go with. However I have been plenty of times from heritage village and the biggest catches have been 3 kg cat fish, 2.2kg sharry and smaller ones. The charter would charge around AED 800 per 6 hours with around 5 people it would cost around 160 per head but do check the weather before booking a trip. |

An 'end of year' reply to a few posts: Paul - without a residence visa, I don't think you'll be able to get a fishing permit in Dubai. I got one a few years ago (w/residence permit etc) but never had it checked, so didn't bother renewing. If I were you, I'd just play the tourist card - ie "Honestly Officer, I had no idea one was required, am just here for a few days blah blah blah". Your trump card to play would be to ask "Sorry, I'm a tourist here, how can I get one?" Don't expect too informed and detailed an answer from the official in question, but if there is a decent response, please post and inform us!! In short, I don't think tourists without residence visas can get one. Paul/Salah - Good shore fishing spots in Dubai? Any of the breakwaters in Dubai are worth a go, and provide some half decent fish every season - for the patient and persistent. They are hardly hot spots though. If you don't mind filth with your fish, there are plenty of fish in the Creek - though not my cup of tea....too smelly! Buddies and myself kayak fish the Dubai breakwaters and pick up plenty of the usual suspects -kings/queens/barras/grouper/ trevally, though we have some slow days too. We generally troll lures or (slow) troll deadbaits, though if I'm fishing from shore, I much prefer livebaiting. Ijlal - some nice catches there buddy, well done! Musa - tough to answer your q on the charter price, depends on reputation. I'm not really one for DXB charters these days, but my q would be - What do these guys catch? How often, how many, and where's the (photographic) evidence???!! Best of luck to all anglers here, please encourage fellow anglers not to litter, it makes the Municipality close down many productive spots, and makes other anglers' lives a misery. Season's Greetings and Happy New Year to All! Richie over and out till next year!!! Tight lines! |

KD I guess you should get your kayak to the hatta mountains and jump from the cliff. If that does not fascinate you. Get yourself fucked in the desert. Angling is not your piece of shit. All you can do is give a head and thats the reason why you talk all shit like a cum soaked cunt. Dare you post again on this forum and your will be risking your arse. |

Ashley, You have made the point yourself. If I impart with some information on the forum, it is for the benefit of all who might want to benefit from it. Now this guy was shouting around about sinking lures, which gave me an opportunity to write what I have learnt over the years. Only thing is I did not know how thankless he was; should have posted the info without addressing it to him. Hell, I even fought with Fishing King for no reason. FK was right but then I am like this; always ready to give a helping hand if I can... Anyhow, I am indebted for you support and concern. Haven't been out to Charna yet. Will post a report on PGFA if I do go. Take care pal, Ijlal |

I do not know why I am wasting my time here but I need to prove a point here! When humans are babies their parents teach them how to speak in their language, how to eat, drink, talk, behave (Manners) and adopt the same traits as their parents have taught them. I guess someone’s parents used to SHIT on them allot so in return they offer it to others . . . . No respect, I knew he was a fake from the very first post and Ijlal and the others I’m sorry you'll actually did waste your time and valuable comments however I am sure others did actually learn and catch something. |

fellas , i am visiting dubai for ten days as from early next week and need to ask about fishing permits for beach fishing . i have emailed differant departments of the municipality including tourism and the legal department but they will not reply to my enquiries. i was over there erlier this year and did a bit of fishing until a municipality employee in a white 4x4 pick up aproached me and explained that i could not fish unless i had a permit and that i could be arrested and my gear confiscated if i did not have one . he also explained that if i went to the municipality offices with my residency papers ect they would issue one for free , when i explained that i was only a tourist he was stumped he could not answer me . so - can anybody shine a light on permits for beach fishing and also could any of you guys recomend any spots worth ago and also what baits are worth trying . many thanks . paul |

Hmm, looking through your posts KD, looks like you're a troll to me. I hardly ever read this site any more....anyway if you're not a troll, you got great advice from Ijlal/Fishing King. I will spare you my advice, other than to say you are incredibly rude, and you have received far more tips than you deserve. |

KD- I am a regular kayak angler in DXB, and catch all the target species you attempt to target - kings, queens, trevally, grouper (hamour) and enough barracuda to start a landfill site! You have received excellent advice from Ijlal and Fishing King, who, though I understand are not kayak anglers, nevertheless have offered you advice which I can concur from my own experience is spot on. You have whinged about "not being helped" on this forum, and yet have received excellent advice from the above posters......so wassup!!?? Get out there and fish! |

Nobody uses needlefish, dead or alive, to catch kings and cudas - I haven't seen or heard at least. I guess you are confusing halfbeaks for needlefish |

Hey Kd, As for the diving lures, every lure with a bib will dive to a certain depth, irrespective of whether it is a sinker or a floater. Diving depth is governed by the design of the lure. Some lures are designed to dive to 5 - 7 ft, some to 15 ft, some to 30, while there are some that will dive to more than 50 feet on optimal retrieve or trolling speed. Diving depth will also be affected by the size of the line. As such, a Mann's Magnum Stretch 30+ designed to dive to 40ft on 30lb mono will only dive to 30ft on 50lb mono; the bigger dia of heavier line will have more buoyancy. Diving depth also is affected by the length of the line out. The same lure mentioned above will achieve optimal depth of about 40ft if trolled 50yds behind the boat. If the line out is decreased, so will the depth to which the lure dives. This does not imply that you troll the lure 100yds behind as it would have negative affects on diving depth. This is why it is so: As a general rule, the farther away the lure is from the boat, the more it will dive; however this scenario would be true only if there was no such thing as buoyancy of the line. As you let out more and more line, you keep on increasing the overall buoyancy of the line acting as a countering force - a force that tends to pull the lure upwards. At a certain point this force, along with the buoyancy of the lure itself becomes greater than the force exerted by the lure bib that tends to push it downwards. When such a point is reached, the lure will tend to be pulled upwards, thereby reducing diving depth. Yet another factor that will dictate the actual diving depth of a particular lure is the speed at which it is retieved or trolled. Again taking the above-mentioned lure as an example, optimal diving depth with 30lb line will be achieved at a speed of 5 knots. This lure runs true at upto 10 knots but with a reduced diving depth. if you go much slower than 5 knots, again the Stretch, being a floater, will try to surface, thereby reducing diving depth. The same may not be exactly true for a sinking lure like a Rapala CD-MAG. Now coming to your question: When you allow a Rapala CD-Mag to sink (without retieving it) it will continue to sink until it touches bottom. When you retrieve it, it will continue to come upwards at an angle; keep in mind the factors explained above: The rapala is made to dive to a certain depth on retrieve; but it will dive less and less as the length of line out becomes shorter. Now consider another scenario with the same sinking Rapala CD-Mag: Let's say you cast it out of your stationary kayak to 50m, then let it sink to the sandy bottom. You then decide you want to troll it. What will happen? As you start rowing at a constant speed, the rapala will gradually be pulled upwards at an angle (just like the spinning case above) but will stop at a certain depth it is designed to dive to - lets say about 15 ft (actual depth will be governed by the factors explained above.) So what is the difference in this case? Why doesn't it come up and up as it does when you retieve it??? Sorry, you will have to answer that yourself now Remember, fishing is both, a science as well as an art! Cheers, Ijlal |

Kd do you know what is PMA? You need to find out and learn that before you can catch even a lousy little fish. Two kings on one lure? Who were you kidding? Huh! Ijlal |

Hi Shahzad, Squid & shrimps were used as bait. I managed 3 & Shan managed 2 kofars each. I got them on squid heads while shan got them on shrimps. So both worked. I do not have the exact location but it was about a 45 minutes ride on a 30 knot per hour boat. The spot is straight ahead of the burj al arab. |

A late report. Last saturday me & Shan planned a bottom cum trolling trip. We were trying to specifically target Kofars for bottom. Left the jetty around 6:15 am and reached the sport by 7. We got immediate strikes while bottom and our initial hookups were of sharries ranging from 1kg to 1.5kgs. All sharries were released back. After around 20 minutes we hooked kofars. They are excellant fighters and we had fun on 10 pound lines. Caught 5 of them and ranging from 1.8kg to 2.2kgs. Kept them for the table. Also got 1 grouper of 2.2 kgs. Caught small treavllies for live baiting and managed to get 3 barracudas while live baiting, the biggest being 7kgs. Memed, people say the favorite bait of kingfish is ribbon fish. They look almost like an eel and you can find them in the fish market. They are really expensive though and ur supposed to troll them so they arent the best choice for the casual angler. If you want to fish around people and catch some kings there are always about 3 freindly filipino men with their wives on the jumierah 1 open beach left pier on the left side. They use live needlefish for bait and ive seen them catch kings and cudas BTW, could someone please answer my question about the sinking lures. |

Plenty of hommours in the fish market . There used to be alot of hommours around dubai but due to mass killing by commercial fishing it very unlikely you get them from the shore. For live baiting for cudas and kings, you should use sardines, scad eyes, small trevallies. Thanks |

For the CD 14 and other SINKING lures, do they dive at all? They sink until you stop giving them line, then do they dive anymore after that or do they run straight after they are stopped from sinking? i need to know this, i cant find anything on it on the internet |

Memed, for live bait i throw a castnet off a boat, kayak, or pier. I also use sabiki rigs with small hooks and those will pick up all the bait in the area. |

Hi guys, Saw a discussion about lure colours somewhere. I love red head for kings, but if I had the choice of only one lure, I would go for a 'Silver' Rapala CD-14 Magnum, as in my experience, nothing beats that if the fish is within the swimming depth of this lure. Of course, everybody can have their own favourites ;) Cheers, Ijlal |
