Abby Sunderland is stupid.
Any mariner should know better than to do the southern route this time of year.
16 & alone... STUPID !
However, I wish her the best and pray for a safe voyage for her. She's needs all the prayers she can get.

BOAT PROJECT ? NEED FLOTATION FOAM ?

I have 20 gals of 3 lb density, two part pourable, closed cell poly urethane foam. All or part $20/gal. If interested give me a call at 805 929 1724 or e-mail. 20 gals will make at least 40 cu. ft. and float about 2400 lbs. I have 100 cu. ft in my boat (6000 lbs. flotation) Great feeling knowing that your boat is unsinkable !

Tina great fishing with you and Jack #1! Just to set the record straight it was 6 cows not counting the the 174 I handed off to Mike and the 208 I handed off to Ron. They forgot to count the cow I gave the crew and the one I gave to Dan.

Returned Wednesday from the Westcoastfishing.com 12 day long range trip on the Intrepid. I would like to share a few about our trip. If you are looking for a good long range boat, the Intrepid is a step above the rest. You will not find a boat with a better ride, comfortable cabins with flat screen TV's, all modern and up to date interior, clean bathrooms and plenty of hot water. As for the crew, they are a top notch bunch. From the years of experience and knowledge of Captin Kevin down to the excellent service provided by all the crew members, and the meals provided by chef Javier, they are a cut above the rest. While we were fishing in "Cow Town", the Royal Star decided they would try to slide in on top of us and interfere with the bite we had going, but with Kevins experience, we managed to maintain the school under us. Kevin's only concern was that his fisherman on the boat all got the opportunity to land a cow, and that is exactly what we did. There is not enough positive things that I can say about the Intrepid and her crew. Hopefully the following pictures will say it all. The first picture is of myself with my first Cow weighing in at 225lbs, the second picture is of my Dad, Jack Gibson "Boy-in-Sea" with his Super Cow that taped out at 352lbs, the last picture is of fellow long ranger and fishreports.net member Jack Gordano and one of his four cows caught on the Intrepid.

Believe Me, Im sure no one on this board wants to talk politics. We should all be out fishing... Right Now!

Except fishings closed for 6 mo. Because Fisherpersons as a group tend to bury thier heads in the sand when it comes to politics... I Totally understand why...

But what some discribe as b#tch and moan, I would discribe as "The Facts"... And what some describe as polarizing. I would describe as "Unifying"...So its all in how you percieve Things...

I also know there is alot hard work done by the many great Fisherpersons on this board... Because I've seen it... and donated to it...

So I have no problem carrying that flag... Because if I got to go down, Im going down slugging... Before I watch THEM take away any more of my/our rights. THEM... Those are the REPUBLACRATS. Thier all the same, dont let the suit fool you...So Vote Them OUT!!! Its our only chance of getting some of the things THEY'VE done, Undone!!!

Is this board a good forum for "THE FACTS"... Without Question...Dragon Out...

if you want to talk politics, there are other places more suitable..

if you want to btch and moan,..there are plenty of other places more suitable.

if you want to post a local FISH REPORT, talk about local conditions, or just shoot the sht with some fishing buds,..this is the place to do it.

i don't see any point in polarizing local fishermen by tossing politics into the mix.

just my opinion

OK, that said, why is one of the wealthiest states in the union about to go broke? Spend millions to restrict fishing costing billions in jobs, cash flow and taxes, then spend millions more to create marine preserves further restricting marine industries and spend millions more to enforce and monitor their shiny new toy. Money that could have been invested in education or something (fisheries management) that would have produced long term benefits. Just this kind of irresponsible thinking/spending that they put us in jail for. This is just one small segment of the mess they/we are all in.

I got into fishing because I didn't want to get involved with politics. When politicians take away our rights, with no justification or "for an abundance of caution", then we have no choice but to do something. Nowadays, if you don't want to discuss politics, you'd better quit fishing. So THIS IS THE BEST PLACE to discuss politics. They run us over because we don't know what they are up to and we are not unified. What better place to share information and opinions than this?!! It's great when we can just talk about fishing but that's not reality. If you don't like it, go fishing - or try to. Just my opinion . . .

Went to PSL today (unfortunately the launch wasn't breaking:-(
Saw a crane lifting sailboats off the rocks and a huge tractor smashing them up and loading them into a dumpster! Several sailboats still on the beach!!! There was lots of sand and gravel in the parking lots around the sportlaunch and pier. Must have been pretty crazy there during the high tide on wednesday.
Avila Beach is littered with debris!
Had a great breakfast at FatCats:-)

Harrell, completely agree on the MMPA. Federal lawmakers have GOT to see how outdated it is. The sitation has changed completely since it was enacted.

Did you see this week's WON? The worst part being, even though it's a felony to disturb marine mammals or interfere with mother nature in any way if they're being destructive, when they start dying off from overpopulation, it's written into the law that it's acceptable for activists to step in and "save" them.

Grrr.

May wisdom and science prevail, is all I can say.

Met with a guy today who has a fun invention for shooting fishing line a very long ways off the beach. He needs someone who can do a little machining for parts - just grooves for oring seals. Otherwise it's made of off the shelf stuff. I'd help market it if he can get it produced. Anyone interested?

Great guy, 85 years young, inventor, worked mostly for military so never made a lot on his patents. Gov't got it all and top secret stuff that never sold to the private/commercial sectors. Known him for about ten years and he has a great photo album of some of his projects he loves to show off.

Pierre;
Just a couple of points ; I am sure that we would both agree that the seal/sea lion population has drastically affected our fishing. The marine mammal protection act MMPA was passed by congress. I wonder if Teddy Kennedy voted for it ?

The MLPA was passed in California in 1999 under Grey Davis and a 2 to 1 Democratic majority. It has taken 10 years to be implemented by a mostly liberal/environmentalist backed by the likes of Lucille Packard and her money. This money bought a lot of "support"

MY final point, and my reason for starting this is: IF liberal Mass can elect a conservative then there may be some hope for us to effect a change to our "representives".

Roger that Blackie.

Harell brings up a good point. If the forum was set up like Bloodydecks and the rest of the bigger market fishing forums, each topic gets its own thread. (Not feeling political = don't open the thread!)

I'd be willing to donate for that...

Harrell, sorry, I just don't see how a single senator on the other side of the country has anything at all to do with our fishing rights, the erosion of which has taken place under Democratric and Republican regimes alike.

In fact the MLPA mandatory closures were jammed down our throats under a Republican majority.

Unless he has a "fishing rights" agenda I haven't heard about, to suggest this guy from New England is suddenly going to change everything doesn't make much sense to me, and it seems like some are just using it as an excuse to vent their political allegiance.

I don't personally give two turds about politics. Republicans and Democrats have BOTH stuck it to fishermen. And in my opinion, chest-thumping one party over the other is half the problem, as all it does it does is polarize and nothing helpful gets done by EITHER side. It's always someone else's fault.

I don't blame people for being frustrated. I just don't come here for rants that are completely unrelated to fishing or fishing rights.

Pierre;
We can forget about politics, politicians, voting, etc and just go fishing until all the rest of our fishing and other rights are gone.
The results of tuesday's election should be posted on every web board there is. It is significant to fishing rights as it give us a shot at retreiving some of our lost rights.
This board does not have a political section like most fishing boards do so, I think, it is totally appropriate to post occasional relevant political news/info here.

Been nuts down here today, just drove the coast from Gaviota to Goleta, checking out different spots. Sideways stinging rain. Campus Point was gusting over 50 for sure, breaking southeasterly surf as far as the eye could see. One boat anchored SE of Goleta pier broke free and slid into the pier, debris everywhere. County fire just closed the pier. Other boats washed up at Fool's Anchorage.
Plain nasty out there, really haven't seen a match to it since '83. Wish i had an anemometer but I gotta believe i was feeling gusts pushing 60...almost impossible to stand at times, and the bottle of Red Stripe in my hand was singing!!!!

I hope you were watching the election results last night. It was, probably the most significant political event in the last 100 years or so ! It showed that WE can take back our district, state and country one vote at a time. This year can be the begining of the movemant that will replace the Lucille Packards, Nancy Pelosis, Harry Reids and rest that have taken away so many of our rights !! Make 2010 the most historical year in our lifetime. VOTE "The Rascals Out"

Not just gay right to marry, also illegals getting state benifits. We passed one that said they can't get benifits and the state courts over ruled the will of the people. We have become a state for the people by the judges not the people

just reading the article , I can just think of the many places you can not trepass on to fish, so the article as written is totally worthless,
They do what they please no matter what the people voted on , just look at the GAY RIGHTS , how many times have the PEOPLE OF CALIFORNIA shot it down , so what are the judges looking at again, the people have spoken on DEAF EARS.
some day we will go back to the old days when you hunted and fished for you existance and you goverened your own actions.
the MAD MAX days are comin.

A 2010 california sportfishing license is 41.50 this year if we each spent half that on representation in court(no offense to mel by the way. i truly appreciate his efforts) we would have a chance. this isnt a war pitting fisherman against environmentalists its a war pitting dollars against dollars. we can all do more to protect our right to fish id rather fish with a string tied to my toe than not fish at all

SEA/SWELL:

Today's 5- to 7- foot west-northwesterly (285-degree deep-water)
swell (with an 11- to 13- second period) will continue at this
height through Sunday.

Today's surface charts indicate three different storms moving
very quickly across the eastern Pacific towards California.

Westerly winds of nearly 60 mph on the back side of these storms
will blow over an 1,800 mile long wind fetch (distance of water
over which the wind blows). These winds are expected to blow
across this fetch through Thursday, producing an extended period
of very high sea/swell along the Central California coastline
on Monday afternoon through Saturday. Over my 18 years of
forecasting waves, I've never seen such an extended time
frame of high waves along the Central Coast.

A 950 millibar storm developed near international date line
on Tuesday. A 7- to 9-foot northwesterly (300-degree deep-water)
swell (with a 20- to 22- second period) from this storm will
reach our coastline Monday morning, increasing to 12- to 15-
feet by Monday afternoon. This very long-period swell showed
up at Hawaii marine buoys today.

Combined with this northwesterly swell will be increasing
southerly (180-degree shallow-water) seas on Monday. In fact,
these combined wave trains are expected to produce a
significant wave heights of 15- to 17- feet by Monday night.

A 17- to 19- foot west-northwesterly (280-degree deep-water)
swell (with a 15- to 17- second period) is forecast along our
coastline on Tuesday morning and remaining at this height and
period through Wednesday morning, increasing to 21 to 23 feet
with the same period on Wednesday afternoon through Thursday
morning.

Note: Combined with this west-northwesterly swell will be
periods of high southerly seas through Thursday. Wave
heights at the offshore buoys may reach over 30
feet during this period.

This west-northwesterly swell is forecast to decrease to
18- to 20- feet (with a 14-to 17- second period) by Thursday
afternoon and night, further lowering to 16- to 18- feet on
Friday.

ATMOSPHERIC CONDITION:

A moderate El Niņo condition, increasing mid-latitude westerlies,
and the shifting of the Eastern Pacific high southward will allow
the storm door to swing wide open this week. The jet stream is
just about as powerful as they come, so exact timing of these
these vigorous systems will be a challenge. The surface charts
indicate three different storms moving very quickly across the
eastern Pacific towards California.

The first storm will approach our area on Sunday with increasing
clouds and southerly winds. Scattered rain showers will develop
Sunday morning through Sunday afternoon.

Rain, at times heavy will develop Sunday night into Martin Luther King
Jr. Day along with moderate gale to fresh gale force (32-46 mph)
southerly winds.

Rain amounts with this storm look to generally range from about 1
and 3 inches in the low elevation regions to 2 and 4 inches in the
higher terrain and mountains with snow levels near 4,500-6,000
feet north to south on Sunday before coming down to near
4,000-5,500 feet on Monday.

After a very brief break Monday night into Tuesday morning, another
wet weather system will cross the state Tuesday afternoon with a
return of heavy rain and strong to moderate gale force (25- to 38-mph)
southerly winds.

Another storm, the strongest of the series, will cross the Central
Coast on Wednesday morning with heavy rain and fresh gale to strong
gale force (39- to 54- mph) southerly winds. This storm could bring
flood and mudslide concerns to our area.

Total rainfall amounts from these systems could add up to 4 and
8 inches in the lower elevations and 12 to 16 inches in the
higher terrain and mountains by Friday.

Showery weather will continue through the remainder of the week,
with lowering snow levels and weaker winds. Thunderstorm chances
will increase late in the week as a cold air mass in the
upper atmosphere filters across the region. Unsettled weather is
forecast for the following week.

Hi, all - CCSE is still in the process of procuring the salmon fingerlings. With MikeM's previous posting of the poor returns - its hard to believe the DFG is still going to sell us the fish - but like I said before, I think this whole thing is more politically-driven than they care to admit. There is a lot of work ahead and as always would appreciate any help from fishermen in this area. I apologize in advance as it seems like all we do is ask for help - but we have a CCSE skiff with no motor to care for the fingerlings. If anyone knows of an outboard not being used, please consider donating it to our cause. We will gladly write up a donation receipt for tax use. Thank you and I will keep you all updated on progress.
