Dustin, I spoke with Matt this morning and he was coming in with a load of med. dines with chovies. We'll be meeting him to get bait around 4:15am or so tomorrow morning. Give us a shout when you get on the grounds. |

Here is the last couple chlorophyll shots from our area. Combined with the last SST it's starting to look promising and as Bob stated he was only a few miles from the blue water outside the elbow. I will try and post these here after resizing them. Planning on running Saturday, hope we can all go find em'

We finally got some great satilite photos that show a four degree temp at 121:10 W all the way up and down which is about 60 mi out. The water color is also showing that the same temp break is where the color goes from green to blue. Now I wish I had gone another 10 mi on Tues. Today there is a DFG Commission meeting at the Morro Bay Vets Hall. All should go if possible. They will take public comment on the new five month rockcod season and fishing in depths from 120 to 240 feet of water. The weather looks great for a tuna run this weekend. Bob |

New SST this afternoon shows some interesting looking water where the reports of fish above CSM were coming from. West of Pt Lopez as well as 25 miles up and out from San Simeon is a nice looking 3 degree temp break. Sunday looks like the next weather window. |

I ran out for albacore today on a 220 heading from Morro Bay. There was lots of bait in all areas we covered. The water color was good from 20 to 40 mi then it turned green. We first tried the donut then turned a 280 up to the elbow where I saw a school of tuna boiling on a ball of souries. We stopped on them and threw our 7" sardines at them but no takers. That was at 11:00 and we never saw another jumper the rest of the day. The water was green and 63 degrees where we saw the fish boiling. We trolled in until 3:30. Bob |

Fished PSL again today with my wife. Got a 1/4 scoop of nice dines and headed N of the light house. Totally glassy all morning with a slight S. wind around 9. Much slower fishing today. Only boated two lings (shorts) and 1 keeper halibut (26"). Had a few other raked baits and a few missed bites. Absolutely gorgeous day on the water, no wind until about 2 pm. My wife had a great day even though the fishing was slow. Come on tunny!!! later, steve |

Harrell. I stand corrected, your numbers make more sense, and I think it was just wishfull thinking on my part. 23 miles out looked a lot better to me than 70 miles in my 20 ft. Seaswirl. Like a lot of others I want………………need to catch some LFT. We are thinking and praying for the Fry family, Jim Chandler

Just returned from Mexico and was hoping to see that those Tuna had moved in and were on the chew. Instead I read that Randy Fry has passed and am truely saddened. Over the last couple years I have read his and other RFA members posts on other boards concerning the same thing that Mel and others from CCFCC have been fighting for in this area. My thoughts are with his family and im sure he truely will be missed. Dustin |

Friends: Went out for 2 hours on Saturday and got limits of nice big rockfish. Every place we dropped our lines produced fish. Great day on the water. Where are the LFT? Randy Fry was a relentless worker for recreational fishing rights. The CCFCC relied heavily on his information and insights on the Sacramento scene. He also helped us with our fights with the feds on fishing rights. He will be sorely missed. I had breakfast with him in Martinez a few weeks ago before we met with an Assemblyman. He would talk on the phone for hours about fishing issues. There will be a memorial service for Randy at Half Moon Bay on September 11th. A number of us will be traveling up there to pay our respects. The CCFCC will be donating $1,000 to the Randy Fry Memorial Fund to help pay for his funeral expenses. Mel. |

Jim: I think those numbers are 123:45 and 36:29 since the report area was below the Guide. Which is about 70nm from SC. The commercials have also been fishing there, above and beyond for good counts. |

According to his numbers and my Garmin GPS program. If everything works out we may head out Thursday or Friday, just to do something different and get outa Dodge for a while. Jim Chandler/Onporpoise

We launched out of PSL to look for tuna. Ran out 20 + miles. Temps at 62-63, clear water, lots of life out there but no fish. Ran back to Purrisima for baccacio, bolina, reds and 2 big lings-15 1/2 and 13 lbs. Smooth water, no wind or swell-great day! |

Fished out of PSL on the big boat. Launched at 6 a.m., ran out 20 miles through mostly 60+ degree water. At 22 miles, the water temp jumps up to 63 (from 61.9), and we throw the jigs in. We trolled for about 3 hours. Saw some birds, dolphins, whales, and a huge school of mola mola's! No jumpers, not much bait, and not a jig strike. Water was clear blue, just no fish around. It sure looked good. There were about 6 other boats out today that had the same luck. No one I heard ran past 30 miles. There was a ton of birds and bait @15 miles out, but the water was dirty. We headed down to Pt. Sal @ 11 and proceeded to catch a bunch of nice rockfish. We got several nice reds up to about 8 pounds and 1 keeper ling, plus a bunch of other rockfish. We had wide open ling fishing for about an hour, having several doubles and lings following hooked ones up. Lots of fun. Unfortunately, we once again had 6 or 7 that were 28-29" long! Oh well, it will be wide open there next year when the size goes back to 24". Good luck for those searching for tuna tomorrow. best fishes, steve (Avocation) |

Fished out of PSL today in my skiff. Got a 1/2 scoop of very nice sardines and headed up N. of the breakwater. Had 5 halibut on today, brought 4 to the boat, 3 were keepers (24-28"). We also caught 10 lings, 1 of which was a 1/2" short. I hooked two somethings today that still have me talking to myself. Hooked both fish in about 35 feet of water over rock structure about 10 minutes apart from each other. Both fish peeled line of my reel like no tomorrow, taking 50+ yards of line and heading straight for the kelp. The first wrapped me in the kelp and the other busted off after I hammered down the drag trying to stop it. I was putting a lot of pressure on them with 20# leader and 50 spectra. Couldn't even come close to stopping them. White sea bass? Don't know what they were, but would love to get one to the boat. Flat calm day on the water, absolutely no wind until 2 pm. Had a northerly drift today, which was kinda strange. Going out sat. Maybe pt. sal, but maybe up N again. Lots of fun. best fishes, steve |

Friends: I'm down on the beach in Cabo San Lucas ... enjoying the sun, golf, fishing and margaritas ... Checked with this site to see how albacore picture developing and read about Randy Fry. Very, very sad to see my friend is gone. He was a champion for the cause of recreational fishing. Maybe I'll post more information about Randy when I return. Steve Moore knew him well also. He worked with CCFCC during last two years ... and was a good guy. Mel. |

I have been watching the chlorophyll pictures for two years now (though the first year was kind of hit and miss) My advice is keep it simple. Just use the temp breaks. Too many times the hot bite was in water that I would not have looked at had I used the chlorophyll pictures. Blly, fish the south end of the reef in front of San Simeon hotels in about 26-28 fathoms. It was all wide open last time I was there. I was using td's not LL. Start at about 77.0 on the 42 line and work south. Your gps will convert for you or you can take it off the cahrt. The 28 line runs almost strait north/south with the depth so I don't remember that. Try not dropping on the stacks of fish but on the edges where you may not be marking anything on the meter and you'll find the big reds. If you drop on the stacks you'll come up with a bass on every hook. Randy Fry will be missed by all of us wether you knew him or not. He was one of our biggest fishing advocates on the political level. He was a believer and once told me he "had his heart right if he needed to go." I know I'll see him again also. |

I have a good shot of the SF/HMB/Monterey area where most of the fish have been caught this year. |

Well my freind Dave, my son and I went fishing out of MB Saturday on Dave's boat the Sea Saw. We ran north. We all limited on rock fish some huge reds. Each of us caught Lings 35"+. Caught at least 6 more lings but they were shorts. It was a perfect day. Fished up by San Simeon. Blue was the color of the day. It was an awesome day. A little bouncy and around 4 it got pretty windy. The drift was a little fast but we managed. Hoping to go out this week sometime depending on weather. I didnt know the guy that got killed by the Great White but our thoughts and prayers go out to his family. |

Billy, You’ll have to work your fish finder; I didn’t have much luck in the kelp beds this weekend. I caught my larger fish on the outside of the kelp line, 80- 100’. The bite turned off when the fog rolled in. I have a number of “honey holes” like most people that post to this site and I won’t give specifics. I was out Sunday in the little aluminum and was exploring new territory, I caught/released 5 lings between 27 and 291/2 “ and 5 more less than 26”. No legals. I took home 2 RF worthy of eating, 20”+. I was working with some cheap 2 ˝ ounce lead heads with glued on Wal-Mart eyes, using the larger big-hammer swim baits for the first time. They nailed em’. I also fished with 4ozlead heads with big scampi’s with great success. There is a lot of great water along our coast and I suggest you explore it. Don’t rely Internet postings for lat/longs. Inshore fishing is cheap and very enjoyable, take advantage of it while it’s legal. I’m sure you’ll have a great time and I wish you luck, Stacey

Hopefully I uploaded this satilite image correctly of the chlorophyll that still lingers around our area. There is a good looking temp break at about 55mi by the elbow. I'm very sad to here that Randy Fry was killed a great white Sunday. CCFCC worked very close with him and he was truely dedicated to sport fishing. As a scary note, I was abalone diving in the same area last week where Randy was killed. Bob |

Fished out of PSL today with my 15' skiff. Launched off the pier at 730 and got some killer sardines from the bait guys. Headed up around the breakwater and fished for about 6 hours. Landed 3 nice halibut(26-30"), lost a hog that wrapped me around some kelp (20+) and 1 keeper lingcod (34"). Landed about 5 other nice lings that were all over 24". We also got bit off by 4 other nice fish after short battles, either lings or halibut. Only had 15 lbs. leader, wish we had heavier. All the fish we caught today were big, must have been the big 'dines. Awesome day on the water...now if those albacore would just come in!!! best fishes, steve |

Thanks for the info, Blackie. I actually ran out with my son this afternoon, left the dock at 5:30 and managed two easy limits of nice rockfish out by the 10E buoy. We also tried bounce-balling for halibut in about 70 feet off the old Point Motel, no takers. Hope to get back out sometime tomorrow and give the halibut another shot, will post results. Good luck on Sunday! Pete |

We had a good day rock cod fishing with many large reds, we limited out in about 3 hours and moved inside to do shallow water catch and release. We had to throw back 10 lings that would have been legal last year. the big surprise was Tony one of my buds cought a calico bass. We did all our fishing off the abalone farm. |

Cent Coast Anglers, Found some terrafin looks at sportfishingreport.com. When you get there click ocean on the top banner. Who knew? Old news or good news, I would rather hang a central coast albie than a SD soft boiled slug any day. Would'nt ya know it the image is blocked by fog, but you can go north and south to kinda get a picture. That upwelling in your area seems to push the warm stuff out. Waiting in socal too!!! |

Pete : A good place to start is off cambria in 80 to 120 ft of water , we always do good, we are looking right at the town , use your fish finder , you will find those reds, before the close last month we were catching 6# on iron and fish traps. we will be on the water on Sunday. Just checked the dumpster at the Morro Bay launch, and wonder if anyone has some good fishing stories to tell about all those beautiful reds caught yesterday? Hoping to get the family out this weekend, and would appreciate any help in getting to a decent starting spot. Thanks, Pete 528-4270 |

Was planning on running tomorrow or Friday ... but the last SST's did not look that promising and did not get the boat maintenance done that I wanted. If we had some coverage on Friday I would work on getting it all done tomorrow to fish Friday. Leaving for Mexico on Sat morning to fish Sails,Roosters, Yellowfin and DoDo's down in Ixtapa ...lets hope it goes off by the time I get back. Good luck to those running this weekend. Dustin |

Tomorrow looks like the best weather day in a while and Terrafin shows the best break at the elbow just north of the donut where the last water color looked best as well. Virg's goes out to fish for albacore Friday so we should have more info before the weekend. I hope they don't try another 140 mi 1 1/2 day trip and try fishing along the escarpment where conditions look promising and we can run to in skiffs. If the weather holds I'll make the run Saturday. Mike: E-mailed you a cholorophyll shot of that area but it is a few days old. Need shots around noon for the ocean color and the fog clearing has been later. That area is probably clean, not deep purple but clean. Don't have enough onsite observations to compare with the color scale on the image to know for sure. |

New SST last night shows Hard Break at 121.20 and 34.00, outer Arguello Cyn/Rod. Can someone determine water clarity in this region? Weather is coming down tonight and looks good for Thur/Fri/Sat. Sea temp 63-degrees so if it's clean it could be the ace-in-the-hole. |

A group of us went up to Fort Bragg over the weekend and fished for salmon on the way up. Half Moon was sloppy with mostly small fish and lots of silvers. Bodega Bay was the same. Fort Bragg was slow on the salmon but we heard the albacore were out only 12 mi. So we ran out in sloppy weather for only one small albacore of 10 lbs at 16 mi in 59 degree water. The water temps up there were the same as here, that is all mushy until you go out 40-50 mi. But there were still a few albacore caught so maybe we should be trying a little harder here. Further north at Eureka the water has a hard brake out 10 miles that goes from 50 to 66 degrees. We had an easy time getting limits of abalone and it was a great motorcycle ride all the up Hwy 1. A buddy and I want to go fishing on Friday. Any one got any advice if I should jump on Virgs albacore boat or rockcod boat? Are there any salmon left up in Monterey? Any suggestions? |

Fished for halibut all day today. From 6am to 6pm. All the way up to the Cayucos Pier and back. not even a bite. It was well worth it though.. The only one that bit was this guy... 37" 24lbs... on a trap hooked Dean. caught it about 100yards south of the boat ramp..

Went out of Morro Bay Fri. & Sat. Fished some areas off spooner's in about 150 to 175ft. Caught some nice reds and assorted rockfish both days. Fished by the Cayucos Pier Fri. afternoon for one 30" halibut on live bait in about 15ft. Witnessed a 43" 28# halibut at the fish cleaning station caught on Fri. just inside the mouth of Morro Bay as well. |

Oh come on Stace ..... Its just fuel! If that break moves any closer inside the 1908 and its on top of that green chlorophyll area im running on it this week. The color green on those pictures should be half way decent blue water ... not that deap purple stuff, but clean. And the only way to confirm that chlorophyll picture is to run out and see first hand. Just got back from Boaters World buying a ton of new stuff to put on the boat ... so boat should be ready by mid-week. Will email you what you called me about today. Dustin |

I had another look at things this morning and it doesn't look good for tuna out of MB/psl at this time. I'm hoping conditions will change. I looked at the terrafin for the Eureka area and the temperature break is still holding near the coast. Does anyone know of a party boat that operates in the Eureka area? |

Friends: Like the rest of you, I am waiting for the albacore to start biting around here. But, you have to have something to do in the meantime. This last week I was fortunate to go fishing on the Shogun for 5 days with my daughter Janelle. She caught her first albacore and yellowfin. Another young man caught an all-tackle world record yellowtail at 92.1 pounds. Below is a picture of Janelle's first yellowfin and myself standing next to the world record yellowtail .. and Kevin (the angler). Mel

I downloaded the Coastwatch software package last night. It appears that it will become a useful tool once I’ve figured it out. My problem is identifying which IP address to enter into the Coastwatch status-monitoring tool. Can someone please post the address? Thanks, Stacey

Best tuna water appears to be outside our Chn Isles. I'm shooting to run 80-miles to reach that 62-degree water located below the Rodriguez next Thursday. Will fish into Friday. UCAR is advertising light winds. More coverage is needed. Boats? |

SST/Ocean color: Really good shots from yesterday but not what I was hoping to see. The best break below the 1908 moved out 6-8 miles. The second best area around the elbow has dirty water above it but clean water outside and below. All the water west of us inside of 50 miles is mostly dirty. Thanks to Dustin, the link below is a better and easier one to use for ocean color (chlorophyll) than SeaWifs which is also on this Coastwatch site http://coastwatch.noaa.gov/interface/detail.php?dataid=251946®ion=W C With my copier I can size the image to overlay on the Terrafin grid. Which allows me to see where the ocean colors are in relation to temps and lat/lon. The sport boats out of Eureka are catching big numbers of albacore 20 miles out. Our season for fish inside of 50 miles this year is looking pretty grim ! The early fish have passed us by and so far the Sept fish are not shaping up either. |

We need an open season on environmentalists. They are way over populated and need to be thinned out a bit. If left unabated they will ruin the environment for everyone. Once the sports people are gone, they will turn on themselves for fodder till there are only a few fat ones left.
