Hi! I'm going to Istanbul for a week between the 9th and 16th August and am wondering if anyone knows of and decent charter boat fishing trips that would interest me? I fish localy where I live in north Devon for bass, smoothound, tope, and am looking for something with similar thrill levels(or better!). Any help would be much appreciated. My email is vincethornton@hotmail.com
Many thanks.

This is probably the wrong place to post, but does anyone have any information about fly fishing in Turkey? I have heard there are rainbow trout in some areas, and also black bass.

Hi!
I'm looking for information about the fishing culture in Istanbul, and particularly fishing competitions. What types of fish are most often caught? Do people fish for fun or for work usually? Is fishing a profitable job? What are the best places to fish? What is the history of fishing in Istanbul? Are fish and seafood a large part of an average Turkish meal? Answers to any of these questions will be very appreciated, as well as any extra information that you would like to share. Please email me at hddintern@henninger.com . Thanks very much!

Subject: Information

Hi,
I will inform you periodically about the fishing facilities around Istanbul. In this case I will first inform you about the annual fishing schedule for Bosphorus.
August 15th starting the immigration of the Atlantic bonito from Black Sea to Mediterranean via Sea of Marmara and during the immigration they give catch facilities. Depending on the weather conditions and seawater temperature the catch begins in mid August from the Black Sea part of Bosphorus and depending the weather conditions the catch continuos till the end of December.
The most popular angling method is paternosters tied with white cock neck feathers with 3/0 or 4/0 hooks. The average system is equipped with min 50, max. 100 hooks and average weight of each fish is 1-1.5kgs.
The catch method is trolling of the paternoster on the upper levels of Sea.
In the middle of May the Blue Fish season starts. First the bigger sizes (1 to 2.5kgs) fill the Bosphorus and the catch method is trolling of Garfish as live bait especially in the upwelling areas in Bosphorus.
Continuously are following the smaller sizes of Blue Fishes each other. The standard size (400-600gr) will be fished during nights in a boat with light. (The light is to eliminate the bioluminescence in the sea) The catch is special for that region; the singles 1/0-7/0 with lead weighted hook and as bait fresh dead bait (especially the horse mackerel and Low-body picarel)
Latest in season the smaller sizes are fished with smaller paternosters equipped with the tip of white cock neck feathers & tied with ruby thread. Fish will be cough with paternoster vertically.
It is possible to catch the small sizes mixed with Horse Mackerel, depending on the weather conditions throughout the whole year.
The other facility is to catch the Sea Bass on the Black Sea coast around the Bosphorus mouth.
The angling methods are, Live bait trolling (with crustaceans or with live fish), fishing with Jigs, fishing with lures, pirks and spinners.
The other popular fishes to catch are as follows;
-Garfish
0.2 to 2kgs
Method: Trolling of piece of row silk without hook.
-Scorpion fish
0.5 to 1.5kgs
Method: Ground dead bait
-Picarel
0.1 to 0.5 kgs
Method: Rough ground paternoster rig
-Ombre-White Bream
Method: Slider floaters rig with rubber band stopper- Drift lining- Ledger fishing
-Red Gurnard
1 to 10kgs
Method: Special domestic method – Acrobat balancing rig-
-Turbot – Scaldfish
Turbot: 0.5 to 15kgs
Scaldfish: 0.2 to 1.5kgs
Method: Anchored, drifting and trolling
-Atlantic mackerel-Chub mackerel
Method: Feathers paternoster, flowing trace
- Skate
1 to 15kgs
Method: Bottom trolling with dead bait
