Subject: Prince William Sound Fishing Report
Chum salmon fishing is about over, pink salmon beginning to show. Sockeye/red salmon fishing good in some locations. Coho/silver salmon fishing projected to be great this year - again. Late July to mid August is the best time. Halibut fishing has been fair to good this year - commercial fishing pressure is very high. Charter boats are getting big fish this year - much bigger than other regions. Salmon sharks population is exploding - not only do they provide exciting fishing, they are great to eat if cleaned properly. Ling cod fishing is excellent in the southern part of the Sound. From about July 26th to August 20th should be the very peak of fishing in Prince William Sound - red and silver salmon, halibut, rockfish, ling cod, sharks will be available. You'll also likely see whales, sea lions, sea otters, seals, porpoise and more. It's a hard area to beat. |

Chum salmon runs are dwindling, pink salmon are available and numbers should increase steadily into August. Good sockeye salmon fishing is now available in parts of the Sound. Silver salmon fishing is fair with steady improvement expected. Halibut fishing is fair to good. Fishing in several holes daily has been necessary to find limits of halibut.

Good weather and good fishing has been the norm. Pink salmon are showing up. Fishable numbers available. Sockeye salmon are in, sport fishing is difficult due to high water in rivers. By mid July expect very good fishing for sockeye and pink salmon. Bottom fishing remains good for halibut and yellow eye rockfish. Good luck! |

Halibut fishing is real good, they are staying deep. Several large fish being taken now. Chum salmon fishing is slowing, although limits of salmon are being taken. Sockeye salmon fishing is beginning, lot's of jumpers in certain areas. Yellow eye rockfish still doing well. For those interested, the sightings of humpback and orca whales is high and they are quite active. |

Early returns of chum salmon are offering excellent fishing opportunities near Whittier. Some silver(coho) salmon are available, although good fishing for silvers is not expected until mid July. Yellow eye rockfish are abundant. Halibut fishing has been real good with several 100 plus pounders being landed. Charter boats have reported a slow down since June 11th with expectations for even better fishing than ever within a week. Halibut are still fairly deep and should move into shallower water in late June. |
