Dan is right, that NE is a killer.

Get those Sea Bass and keep an eye on those Bunker Pods, big bass underneath, 30-40 pounds. Live line, no sinker.

Seahunt. I have a 24 cc hydra sport. which is really 22.5 without the pulpit. when you get to sandy hook you will know if you are comfortable going farther. If it is a nice low wind day you will be OK. I think NE winds over 15 knots are the worse. I think I will be going out sun morn also.

Hi guys,

I have a 20ft CC (bought it last year)and was wondering if I can safely make it to the Sandy Hook reef. I will obviously pick my days and not push it.

I usually spend all my time in the back bay but have been venturing out further and further each time.

It was hot, but the bimini keep some of the sun away.

We went out at 05:30 at was back by 12:00.

I was out today by 6.30 am. We fished about 4 hours. I kept running drifts along side the channel from the west bank to just past the islands in that area you mentioned G. We caught about a dozen short fluke. Most in your area. but they were fat and healthy. Water was like a lake. Best producer was the gulp shrimp. I wont be going out sun 7/4. We are planning mon but undecided whether to do the morn or afternoon/ eve. If I go out early I will be stuck in the heat cleaning the boat. If I wait till afternoon it might be so hot I will not want to do anything. Sheesh. I cant make up my mind sometimes.

Mike, I think it was me. it was called Sea Land. They rent those electric motors with them now, I don't know how much they cost. If you can row, do it, because you don't have to go far from the marina at all.

That's the place I use to go, and the owner (woman) was a real b**ch, her son was no bargin either.

When are you planning to go?

Mike, none of the above, I scalp them off the pilings the last two weeks of August, around the full moon. It isn't easy doing it this way, but that's how I have been doing it since I was a kid. I'm trying to tell myself, i'm getting to old for this.

If you plan on going now, use the traps and drop lines. With the drop lines you won't get bored.

Bring plenty of water, food and ice, it's a long day, but worth it when doing it with the family.

Where are you planning to rent the boat from?

Dan, go to the Ambrose. Start by the VZ on the outgoing and drift towards the islands, on the incoming do the reverse. Go just off the edge of the channel, 40 - 60 ft of water.

Giorgio, where do you go for the deep water. THE FISH HAVE REALLY BEEN SMALL AROUND THE BUG LIGHT AND I was watching the party boats at the reach. they didn't seem to be pulling up fish. The reach by the 10 can is about 40 ft. The few we caught there were in the 15 to 17 range. I heard guys on the radio saying the triangle was dead. I tried to call you a couple times on the radio in the morn.

We fished Jamaica Bay on Saturday, 37 short Fluke and one 21 1/4 caught by me. So far this year I have managed the only keepers (4).

I am noticing the fish are getting smaller, looks like it's time for the deeper water.

Big bass are being caught around the Shrewsbury, you have to find the Bunker first.
Other than that, nothing but Fluking.
Good Luck !!!!

Mike, I read it.
Yesterday the NYS Senate approved a bill to repeal the fishing license fee (tax) 60-1. Next it goes to the Assembly for vote. With a 60-1 jump start things look very good. There is a press release dated 6/18/'10 with more details on the free site joinrfa.com. It was virtually a unanimous vote, unheard of in the state.

That's Paul!!

I didn't want to say anything until I heard back, friends of mine said they won't go in there anymore, because of that. A couple of times it got pretty nasty.

I know when I first went in there he was rude, but once he got to know me, he was better.

If he's been treating people like that, he deserves to go out of business.

I only go to Micheal's.

Older Gent with longish hair and a greyish beard
The only thing I can figure is that maybe he was having a really bad day
But that really doesn't excuse his behaviour
But then again besides James on here I heard
from a couple of neighborhood guys that they
use Michaels because of that problem, He can either be really nice or really nasty and the guys got tired of his nastyness
And G you know me, I don't like to bad mouth anyone

Mike, you talking about GK Bait and Tackle? If you are, the guy who waited on you, did he have a beard? If he did that's Paul, the owner. I know Paul and he can be crass at times, but never like that, but times and people do change. If it wasn't Paul, I would call, try early when he opens or just before he closes and ask for him and let him know exactly what happened.

Tomorrow I will go in and ask for next years licence and see what happens, will keep you all updated.

The last time I was there was about three years ago- major attitude problem. Never went back.

G I thought so
I even went as far as to call up one of the guys I work with cause he just got his about a week or two ago over at Michaels B&T and he paid cash too
Anyway had to run the Ole Lady over to a Clothes shop by Kmart on Hylan so while driving by GK
saw these BIG signs in their window advertising the fact that you can get the New NYS Fishing License here now, So, after dropping he off at her store, Big J and myself took a ride back down there to get it. We walked in and the guy behind the counter gave me the impression that he really did not want to be bothered with us and this because right off the block he states Oh Great Another one! and this is definatly the last one of the day!
And this was even before I asked him for the license!
SO then he basically throws a clipboard onto the counter infront of me and says he needs a Drivers License and Credit Card
Now OK Im thinking the DL is for ID but I ask whats the Credit Card for? He says to pay for it!
We don't accept cash!
Nah Im not putting 10 bux on my CC and say thanks but no thanks
He says okay then get out!
Ive went in there before for bait and other stuff but never had a reaction like this before!
Even my Son asked what was his problem!
Very Disapointing trip there!
Needless to say

Dan, they even take the 18" fish in our waters. They can do it because no one pulls over NJ boats when they are fishing in NY waters. When was the last time you have seen a boat being pulled over? In JB, they pull over the boats all day long.

Yeah, we went out, we caught 37 Fluke with only one 21" keeper. Threw back four FAT 20" fish, that was a killer. All the other fish we caught were between 18 and 19". All the fish were caught around the MPB.

The water in JB was just perfect, it started to kick up when we headed back, around 2:00.

I got out at 5pm and the water was rough and windy I knew I was staying close.Wind was against the tide. Plenty of blues around the orchard. 2 large ones made it to the cooler. fluking was slow, couldnt get the gulp at michaels so I fished my 3 oz spro with some pink mullets I had on the boat. I managed one keeper on a killie by the bug light.I dont know how fluke are going to make it to 21 when on the jersey side they are taking them at 18.
Giorgio, did you go out?

Dan, get the biggest curly Q's in chartreuse. If they have the new 6", get them, if not get the 4".

The Fluke love those 4' Shrimp.

If I go, will let you know how we did, hope to talk to you tomorrow.

Mike, get your wife's ankle better, need you in the water soon.

I have your number in my phone.

Dan, you can use a swivel if you find it easier, but I would tie it directly to the line, with your gulp. What kind of Gulp will you be using? Where will you be Fluking?

I might be heading to JB tomorrow, you have my number give me a call.

Nothing within the harbor. You might pick some up around the lighthouse.
Sorry I couldn't help.

Well she got the cast off so no more nasty kicks in the ribs at 2:30am anymore
Now all she is doing is PT three days a week
that I have to drive her to (It had to be her right foot too!)
Anyway I figure another two-three weeks before
sanity returns
Tell the fish to wait for me please?

I had an I/O, had it rebuilt in 2003 for $6500., last year it fianlly gave out. Didn't want to pay $8000. for a new one, without labor.

I talked to friends at Michael's, they told me they are catching big bass around those Islands and West Bank, up to 45 lbs.

Tottenville is still producing Stripers.

Drift off the Ambrose, just out of the channel where she drops, for Fluke. Try 6 - 8 oz spro bucktail with a nice piece of Gulp or just use your normal Fluke stuff. On the outgoing tide, the drift should take you right past the islands.

Mike has the wife doing?

Well it didnt help today. Drifted by the islands nothing but short fluke. I ran into two bunker pods, small ones, snagged and dropped, nothing. A lot of sand shark around. One wrapped the line around my prop. Had a rope tied around my son as he leaned out and cut it off. Finished off with a small blue which I kept for a lady at work who likes them. Giorgio. I will get you out on my boat. Between my sons, daughter in law,and in-laws there are some days when the boat is too small and then other days I cant get anyone to go out with me.

I know where the triangle is, I was just asking if Dan did, so I wouldn't have to go into all that.

Dan, there are three bug lights right off the tip of Tottenville, my friend has been hitting the bass off any one of them. Just spot the Bunker and live line right where the bunker are and if you have clam, use it.

Mike, to the left of the confrence house you will see a bug light, try surfing right there or where ever you see Bunker.

My friend picked up 9 bass on Friday afternoon, right in the middle of the Bunker at that light.

The only thing I could find about the T-ville Triangle is the following

Fluke fishing is excellent around the Keyport channel which starts at the 1 can that marks the entrance to the Harbor from the Raritan Bay. Other areas in close proximity are: "The Triangle" which is a few miles NW of Keyport in Raritan Bay between Tottenville on the Staten Island side and South Amboy on the NJ Side. The area is formed by the Raritan Reach channel and the channel coming out of the Aurthur Kill merging. Other spots not to overlook are the Raritan Reach channel ledges and the Keansburg borrow pit which is a football field size hole about 1/2 mile due east of the tip of Keansburg peer. Drifting a combination of a strip of squid and a kellie is the most popular way to fish.

Mike, hope all works out for your wife and you.

Went out today for those Jamaica bay Stripers and Fluke. Plenty of Bunker around, no bass at least for us. Then tried Flukin', 8 Fluke, all shorts. Two of those might have won a pool on a Jersey party boat.

Dan, my friend is killing the Stripers all around Tottenville, get out there.

Sure miss my boat !!!!!!!!

Hi Guys
Sorry that I haven't been around
Things crazy with the house right now with the
better half laid up with the injury
Trying to do the Dad thing as well as the Mom thing as well as work the job!
Doctors say that her cast may be off this

They are checking for any tendon or ligament
