Hi Praveen, Welcome here. Can yuo please provide some more detail on your self, i.e. if you have fished before or not and whats your budget like. A decent set up (a combination of china and other countries) would cost you around AED 200 including rod, reels, line, hooks etc. There are shops in Deira and you could have alook at Dragon mall as well. Pls do not go for the tele rods. Its better u get a 2 peice rod which would last longer. Thanks |

Hi Ijlal bhai, Hope that you are doing well. You are right about Al Masood Marine in AD. Their website is outdated. But they have opened an outlet on SZR road neas the Time Square mall. They have a better variety of gear there. I managed to pick up a few mann stretch trolling lure @ AED 50 a piece, i think this price was good. But not sure if they had the suffix lines or not. BTW are in in Karachi. Iam planning to visit KRi on 4 march 2010 for a week and looking to alteast have 3 fihsing trips, 2 from Mubarak and 1 from keamari. Do let me know if you are in KRI. Hi Amir, How are you doing buddy? Al-Masaood do not have even Sufix mono; most of the fishing items on their website are not available since long. They have probably not updated their site for the past three years. None of the rods and reels are available either. I really do not know what the problem with online stores in a progressive country like UAE is? I once made an order on Barracuda Dubai website, and they had no way of charging your credit cards! Take care, Ijlal |

Last weekend Nathan and I fished the Promenade breakwaters in search of some queens. Things started off slow, but with a change in spot, Nathan hooked into a cracker. Probably a large Hammour which reefed him, and the line broke after about 5 mins. This fish had some serious power and took a lot of drag off his reel. Check the bend in his rod  What was quite fun was watching a shoal of 2 kg queens doing their mating ritual. They would swim in a very specific route of about 25 m in a very shallow bay off the breakwater. Everytime they went by, they would release small brownish / beige clouds into the water. I could only think it was sperm being released. It was fascinating to watch, but very frustrating as they were totally disinterested in everything we threw at them. Guess they had their priorities right!!! That morning, we had also seen a lot of surface action similar to this time last year, so I thought I would try the kayak this last Friday morning. Headed out around 6:45 to the breakwater, trolling a red head, a soft bait and a fly on the 10 wt. Got into a really nice 2.5 kg hammour on the red head, but that was all for the entire morning. Bumped into Paul and we both commented on the amount of tiny baitfish all over the bay. Probably some of them were products of those queens in the bay. Lets hope these are given a chance to grow up, as there were literally millions all over the place. We both saw small scad and possibly one or two kings chasing, but it was like chasing a fart in a perfume factory because when there was any surface activity it would last no longer then a couple of seconds. By the time you had cast the lure, they were gone. Anyway, also tried out the new underwater / water proof camera which is great fun. Some pics of flyfishing for Bass in SA too. Regards Beefy |

@ Desmond Lobo, Dezz, The Basil Manning Website is the site I use for all my imported equipment, primarily because I have been to their shop and know the staff and the equipment/service that they offer. If you have the money and want the gear, then go for it. As an alternative source you could contact Sean @ Oceanactive (http://www.oceanactive.com) and see if has anything you want or can get it for you? Regards, Nigel. |

@ Nigel Burn: Its all about preferences and I am sure you have tried and experienced what you have said. I have only used Power Pro considering the make and ratings of these lines. These are the only lines that use 4 strings weaving unlike 3 used by other brands. This gives it a more rounder shape and leaves the reel faster rather than sinking in the spool. The only prob with these lines is that their color fades of soon. From my experience if you are fishing from break waters or some structures where you are likely to get snagged, you better have a mono leader right after your wire leader. I use almost 7 feet of 45 lbs mono leader cause i have lost quite a few lures when it was all connected to the leader with a braid. Braid cuts off very smoothly over these rocks. Not to mention the number I hamoors (grouper) I surfaced and they dived brushing my braid over the rocks and setting themselves free Just wanted your opinion on buying tackle from SA from the website you mentioned. Is it advisable considering the cost mentioned on the web site Cheers mate - DeZZ |

Hey Guys. I'll be in Dubai Mid-February. Won't have enough time for a BigGame trip but might be able to do some spinfishing. Any ideas where I might have success from the beach or the banks of the creek? Another thing: We do exklusive distribution for some US-Tackle-Suppliers and also for MEPPS (Spinning Baits) and always looking for new customers in the UAE. So if you have some reliable addresses of dealers, I would appreciate your help:-) |

@ Salah Sharafi, If you are fishing from a kayak, your options are trolling, drop-shotting or vertical jigging. Set yourself up with a good spinning or jigging rod with a suitable reel, and you should have some success out there. You can use Live bait, but you can also use poppers, plugs, spoons, jigheads and plastic lures like the Berkley, Gulp, Slam or McCarthy range. I don't know if those are available in the UAE, but you can also order these on-line. Good luck and let the Forum know how you get on out there. |

@ Desmond Lobo, You are right, Suffix is not available in UAE or Oman at all. Not sure about Qatar though. I use Berkley Whiplash as the backing for my Daiwa spinning reels, with the Berkley Fireline spooled over that, and have never had a problem with either. I also use Whiplash as the backing for my Shimano spinning reel with the Suffix Braid spooled over that and I find that a very good conmbination. It has been tried and tested on many an occasion, and I have the photos to prove that it works well. Good luck in your fishing this year. |

Hi Abdul, I guess you might know me by now. I do not create a fuss on such issues. What I see & experience is what I believe You are right about the scale. I plan to get one but my budget is restricted on this items. I saw one at barracuda & Knotice which is for about AED 350 but the weight limit is around20 pound. Iam looking for some things which cost lower then that but can weigh fish up to atleast 50 pounds. Rgds |

Hi, i donno why you guys are going on the weigh of the fish,if someone catches a fish its good for him and its highly appriciated that he puts a pic of his catch, which is ofcourse a motivation for others, anyways this is what i wanted to say and could't keep it inside,i appoligize if it hurts someone but this is what i feel.Good catch bro.My cuz went from ajman hired a boat and caught a total of 20kg fish last time i went on that trip few months ago we caught 30kg in total, with every kind of fish landing on the boat, majority of them were baracuda's. Thanks |

Amir, Never intended to look down on you as I do believe that we all learn form each other. I truly apologise... IF I had made you feel so. As suggested by Fishing King, most probably you had read the lbs reading. This is the main reason why we always brought our own grip cum scale to ascertain the weights of the fishes we caught. Fishing is NOT only about catching fish, it should also be about having fun and not forgetting the mental relaxation/calming effect it is promoting. |

Samir, Dubai's coastline is overfished....PERIOD !!! No matter where you go to fish, there are always dozens of others fishing there. The sad part is that most of them take ever tiny little fish, which is unfortunate. They everyone wonders where the fish have gone. Amir, Whatever people say to you, do not forget to enjoy your fishing. ;) |

Yes Fishingking you are right; & I know people are more experienced than me and I never doubt that. I have never claimed to be an experienced angler. The picture shows that I catch fish, the size, wieght etc does not matter to me. if that would have been the case, I would have definitely taken the picture of the bigger barracuda we caught. You might notice that the picture was not taken on the boat so the pic shows the fish I had brought home. In case I had to show off and display big catches then I had the chance to do that. I feel reporting the fishing activity is more important. Anyhow I always appreciate your technical comments so no problems with me on the matter. |

Amir, no one is ganging up on you. Just that you look silly to anyone with fishing experience after mentioning the weight. I usually weight the fish I catch accurately to 0.000kg (before release) & use a caliberated digital fish scale. There are many available on the market / online & they are not too expensive. I have seen quite a few people use them in Dubai. In all probablilty the boat guy gave you the weight in pounds (lb)& not Kg. 6lb = 2.72kg 2.2lb = 1kg these weights seem accurate when looking at the size of the fish. Abdul is spot on with the weight estimate & although the pic shows the fish much larger due to zooming in, it is much much bigger than the one you are holding. Anyway, you do not have to reply to justify anything, what I said is just so that you are aware that others too are aware & will take notice. good luck with your fishing. |

I could have zoomed in and taken a better picture i guess. But after you guys have guessed it correctly and I think your guess is better then the scale, then I have to tell the truth. The cuda was 1.999995kgs. That would sound better. |

Hmmmm..... Was quite surprised that yours weigh that much as even this one was weighing about 5kgs.... We had found Cudas to be quite light for their size as their flesh are not as dense... compared to other fish.

Hi Amir, you would be surprised if you actually weighed the fish on a proper scale. So as not to be rude, I'd say it is safer to show a pic of the fish & not mention the weight of the fish. Or if you do want to give a fisherman's super assumed weight of the fish he caught, dont attach a pic. |

A late report as I could not upload the picture. Me, Shan & Arsalan went out from Dubai for a full days bottoming & trolling session. Were scheduled to leave at 6:15 but left around 6:45 am. While bottming we were only targetting kofars (Guilthead breams) and we managed to catch 7 of them raning from 1.5 to 2.2 kgs. All of them were caught on 10 pound lines and at times the fight lasted around 5-10 minutes. stopped bottming at 10 am and left for the trolling / live baiting spots. Tried trolling for an hour but no results, not even on the very effective downrigger. Then started to live baiting with travellies and managed two barracudas. One around 10 Kg and the 6 kgs. We lost a couple of them near the boat as they were not completely hooked. Returned to the jetty at 4pm. All in all, not a excellant trip but not too bad either. Salah i kayak fish in open sea and go up to 2 miles offshore to deep water FAD's and even when it is very rough water, a kayak designed for fishing can definately handle it. I would not advise going out on winds over 11 knots, your kayak can easily handle it but it is not enjoyable. |

I would like to kayak fish. How safe is it in open sea. What kind of fishing is most productive. Bottom or trolling (live or lures). |

Had my first day of fishing in Abu Dhabi yesterday! Started off at Marina Mall catching a few small needlefish and jacks. Saw some small barracuda, but none of them took the bait. Finished up at Yas Island. Caught some more needlefish and jacks there too. It was great to just feel something tugging on the line!!! This morning I think we are going to start back at Yas Island, then check out the areas at Meena Marina, Musaffah and Officers City. I would appricate any help and tips on techniques and lure selection for shore fishing that anyone might have. Good Luck Everyone!!! |

Hi I am looking for some guidance to buy a luring rod with the following specs... Fast/Heavy, 10 to 30lbs line class, 1/4 to 1 1/4 lure weight, upto 7Ft length, two pieces, graphite blanks, Fuji real seats, SIC guides etc. etc. I pretty much like the Fenwick HMG rods which cost around 109$ at cabelas, but I'm not sure if it can be used for saltwater fishing. Appreciate your feedback. |

Mohd Faisal, Sufix I doubt you will get it here. The only braids I have seen here are berkely whiplash and its not recommended. You might get some other braid @ active marine which is located @ 3rd interchange towards your left if heading towards AUH. For braid I would suggest u use power pro or spiderwire but both have to be ordered online as they dont sell it over here. You may also try a shop named barracuda in dubai marina post the marina mall. I remember seeing cajun red there not too sure if they stock braid. Tight lines and a good new year to you ahead. Hello Everyone! I am new here to fishing in Abu Dhabi and Dubia. Can anyone please tell me where I can locate a tackle shop here in Abu Dhabi or Dubia? I brought some fishing gear with me, but I would like to see what is available here too. I am planning on doing mostly shore fishing and I am not sure what is out there to catch. Any advice on where to go or what to use would be greatly appriciated. Thank you in advance! |
