went out today in the AM. Windy so I stayed close amd 1/2 day today. Only 2 short fluke by the bug light but my daughter in law landed this nice blue on a squid/killie rig. Will be heading out tomorrow. Hopefully I make it to the Rockaway reef.

Will be going out on Monday looking for the Weakfish and since it's the last day of Fluke fishing, them too. Will be keeping an eye open for Albies, if the wind helps us a little. |

Usually not a good time, the bottom is stirred up too much so there will be plenty of food around, the water is murky for lures. But, you never know what can happen. If you do go out GOOD LUCK and let us know how you did. |

Mike, thanks for the report. We hit the Naversink last Thursday, had the incoming and high all day. We stopped for about 2 hours until the tide changed, while we were taking a break, picked up six Fluke. The largest was 17 inches. Tried on the outgoing, of course the wind picked up and the boat was blowing through the bridge, hard to pick them up. We managed three dozen with two softies. |

Big J and myself took a ride down to RBM today and scored a half of a bushel in 3 hours on the out going tide! All keepers of about 6 to 7 inches all on Chicken and hand lines even had a few bites from a pesky Blue Fish that was running circles around us at times, when we thru out the line from Big J's Snapper pole! But no joy at that Did happen to have 5 Jersey Ladies sneak into that Half Bushel which we put back for the Staten Island Boys to have some fun with. All in All a really good time, G think its almost time for your run down there and they're still big and hungry! So Go Get Em' |

Nick. The Scotland grounds is at the end of sandy hook channel. I was told you go out past the last bouys to you see a bouy on your gps which is not there. However there is a S red and white bouy there marking the grounds. Also known as the fishermans bouy. Yesterday was like a recon trip for me but we lucked out and caught some bass. I observed what the other boats were doing and did the same. I anchored up over rough bottom in line with a sport fishing boat and got lucky. |

Totdays report: caught probably 15 short fluke including a nice 19 incher and a fat 18 incher from 1500-1900 and 5 Sea Robins. Pretty much all caught near Hoffman drifting from the South Fin grill towards the pier. Nice Seab Bass! Where exactly is Scotland Grounds? |

Made it out to the scotland grounds today. We were hitting the sea bass pretty good, I think. My first time targeting them and getting some. Also my first time that far out of the bay. Out of about 12 or so we got 3 keepers the biggest being 16 inches. Was nice out today. My sons GF got sick so we made it an early day. We were pretty happy with our results today but the damper was somebody hit my kids car while parked at the marina. Next I want to hit the rockaway reef.

Out 0830 to 1400. Beautiful day on the water. Catch was about 5 short fluke around 17" or so, 3 sea robins and a skate. Bait was killie / squid combo. Fished the Ambrose without a hit. Drifted from the green buoy closest to the lighthouse. Ran a few drifts towards Hoffman from the si shore and that where most of the fish were caught. Also a couple at the bug light. Had bunker out on one rod and didn't get a touch on that all day. |

I thought so G. I will be going out in the AM with my son and his GF. I am not sure of my plan yet but hopefully wind permitting I will make it to either the fishermans buoy (scotland grounds) or the SH reef. I still want to make it over to the rockaway reef. I got this sea bass itch and wont be happy untill I catch some. |

Dan, no one sells live PNUTZ, they are hard to keep alive. I have a hard time throwing the net, but all it takes is one good pizza throw and you will have enough for the day and the rest you can freeze. I would throw the net 10 times and I knew it would only take one half ass throw to fill the bucket. |

Dan, Nothing on Raritan, but they are starting to show up in JB. If you can get live peanuts, try drifing them around the VZ. That's where I get them and Fluke love them too. I picked up Weaks up to six pounds and seen bigger ones there. The Reach on the Jersey side is also a spot, but I never caught anything worth while. |

Ran a drift from the SI Side of Hoffman towards the beach and thats where we got the Sea bass. Was very surprised when we pulled that fish up considering I don't believe there is any structure there. Fish took a squid / live killie on a basic fluke rig with white bucktail tied on it. |

Nick, went out from 3 to 7.30 pm. Hit the channel by the VZ and bug light. Real slow for me. But some areas produced for some people. Hey where by hoffman did you get the sea bass? I keep trying to make it to one of the reefs for sea bass but the winds when I have been out cause me to cancel those plans. |

Where were you fishing? I was out from 0800-1430 and it was SLOWWW. Fished the bug light, ambrose channel, west bank, old orchard and only managed 2 short fluke (in about 3 feet of water), a sea bass (which was random, by Hoffman island) and 3 sea robins. |

Went out yesterday for a little bit. Boy was it snotty out there. Decided to stay around the bug light. The drift was really fast. Did mananage to catch a 23" that weighted about 5lbs. Not too bad for a few hours. |

G, I called u a couple times on the radio. Figured you didnt go out. I wouldn't have tried to get over to you anyway. That NE wind was blowing the spray back on us.I do dress for it but still who likes it, right. I had my buddies in from so jersey. Actually I think that fish was more like a 5 lber but I use that spring scale which are a little off. Thats my biggest ever. My daughter in law still has me beat. I caught it in the rips off the point of staten island by ft wadsworth, and boy was it ripping. I didnt bother with the tuna club fluke tourn this year. Watch if the largest fish was under 5 lbs. Would be my luck.Another buddy fished the 58th str peir and said somebody caught a nice stripper so there are some lingerers around.I still want to get to a reef for some sea bass. |

Dan, nice fish !!! We started fishing around 10:00, fished until 14:00, 24 Fluke no fish over 19". Had a couple of nice fish on, but they spit the hook before we can take a peek. Fished our usual spot, water had a chop, but wasn't all that bad. |

Went out sat AM. Pretty ruff on the water. Stayed around the Ambrose channel, cant run around too much with a cc in that wind, you get wet. Fishing was slow but I managed a nice 4.5 lber. No other keepers. 3 of us on the boat.

It is the Grandpa Savino tourn. Actually I heard about it on the bass barn and confirmed it at the Staten Island Tuna clubs website. this sat and sun rain day. I am not sure of the entrance fee. it is either $25 a person or $100 a boat. I am sure Michaels has the details. Just for a piece of info. Last year I entered with my daughter in law and she caught a 26 incher 7.5 lber off the bug light and we didnt even pull 3rd place. shheeesh. |

Dan, I know it's an AREA off of Sandy Hook, not a real buoy. I don't know the exact area. If that's where you are heading, follow the Princess. I know as of last week i've see her around the islands and in the Ambrose. I'll give you a call on the radio (72) and if no response, I will call your cell, that's if I go out on Saturday. |

Anyway G , did you ever hear of a spot called the "fishermans buoy"? I read in an article that the Atlantic Princess reports that it is a good spot for sea bass and fluke. |

They were using hand lines, not many going into the traps. I use neither, I scalp them off the pilings. If you have two scoop nets, try the route 35 bridge and the train trestle. Get there real early and if you are the first ones out, head to the 35 bridge. the reason for this is, that trestle will get crowded real fast and not too many people go to 35. SCOOPING IS A LOT OF HARD WORK !!! It's a bad tide for scooping, need outgoing. The crabs cling and as the tides rises they get deeper, outgoing drops the water and they are easy to spot. I have been crabbing there, over 30 years. |

One question tho Do you use hand lines or traps? Im also planning on taking two rods and trying some going for snappers, he said there are alot there now! |

Mike, took a ride out there on Friday, Red Bank Marina has row boats for $50, electric motors for $80 and gas motors for $125. Crabbing was good, choice of bait, chicken necks. I have another two weeks before I head out. I take my boat from the Oceanic Marina, in Rumson. Boat with a 6hp motor is $80.25. |

Okay went out with Big J on the Dororthy B out of Atlantic Highlands, Nice ship good crew Was kind of crowded but what'd you expect for a beautiful Saturday Morning? Went over off of Breezy (I think) Nothing happening, Hit the area near the Bug Light Still nothing only a couple of shortie Door Mats for the people next to us Hit Ambrose Channel Alot of Boats around us, but still nothing happening This was Big J's first time out on the Bright Sea on a party boat and I was praying that things would break loose, but they never did The Captain was trying his best from the way he was flying inbetween spots Just seemed like the fish went away on vacation to South Jersey or JB Hit a spot off of Sandy Hook about 100yds off of the beach we picked up two very small sea robins They were so small that I didn't want to keep them thats how small they were! So ended the day going home empty handed Didn't even get a sun burn! Im hoping to go out to Red Bank on Tuesday Morning with Big J to take out our agression and frustration on the Jersey Blue Claws Will let ya know how we do there! |

Dan, good report !!! That's not what I am understanding, it's where we are. New Jersey is in the southern zone and we are considered the northern zone. I forget all the b/s involved, but I am pretty sure it has nothing to do with the commercial fisherman. I might be wrong, because I am told I am wrong quite a bit. |

Congressman McMahon was at the RC Yacht club last night for a town hall meeting with the boaters and fisherman. I was a little surprised to see very little questioning on fishing regs. It seems like people were more concerned with dredging and the fishing license. Anyway I raised the issue of the diff in regs in the harbor between NY and NJ. Anyway the reason for that is because of the commercial fishing fleets off Montauk and their take of the fluke stock. Anyway the congressman was unaware of this and promised to look into maybe having more fair regs in the NY harbor area at least. Also the fishermans conservation assc has been lobbying for diff regs for the NY harbor area. Just some info. |

Dan, go past Breezy, JB side, set up your drift on the incoming tide just outside buoy 8 and on the outgoing just oustide buoy 10. Drift back and fourth between them both. Those drifts should take you parallel to the beach, if you drift towards the beach, start a new drift as soon as you hit 13'. |

Hey thanks Giorgio. I would like to try BP also. Seems you are doing good there. But I dont know any areas around BP to try. Well the fluke are definetly getting bigger. I also switched some reels over to braid. I was using gulp also but for us the best producer was killie squid combo. And a lot of our shorts would be keepers in NJ. |

Dan, I was going to call you today to see if you wanted to come over by Breezy with us, but I thought you wanted the SHR, so I didn't. Going across that water to the RR, can get pretty tough at times. You have to pick your day's. I think I have to credit my good Flukin' to something I hate, BRAIDED LINE !!! I know Fluke love that Gulp Shrimp. |

Yes Giorgio, you are doing great. I never made it to SH reef. NE wind in the morn put a damper on that although the day turned perfect. We fished the channels around west bank again. Tons of shorts but managed two keepers just making 21. I also think the rockaway reef might be closer. What do you think of the Rockaway reef? |

Hit the water late, but managed 42 Fluke with two keepers, 21 1/4 and 23 inches. Those are my ninth and tenth keepers, so far this year. That's shocking me !!! It was a short but beautiful day on the water.

Went out on Saturday with Sal and Lloyd, picked up 63 Fluke with Lloyd getting one 21", Sal with two 21, 21 1/2 and me with two, 22 and 23 inches. Fished the Ambrose, nothing but shorts except for the one keeper Sal caught. The rest were caught by Breezy.

Sunday AM report. Fished the channels around west bank. One keeper fluke. Worked some cocktail blues under birds with diamond jigs, always fun. Plenty of bunker around 11am. snagged and dropped but nothing under them. Very nice on the water. hot in the bay. |

Update from the weekend- left the dock around 5:30- headed over to Hoff Islands. First stop was the staten island side in about 20ft of water. Drifted a little- nothing but shorts. Moved over to channel side of the islands- a couple of shorts then a fat 21.5". After that- nothing but shorts. Continued the drift- from can 23 all the way to the bridge. Nothing but shorts. Decided to shoot across to Coney Island- a lot of garbage in the water- Didnt stay too long. Headed over to Old Orchard- nothing but shorts again. Now its slack tide so we decided to head to the back of the bay. Stopped at 19- nothing but shorts. Finally decided to head back in at 5:30. Didnt win the tourney but had a lot of fun out there. |

Not sure about that #1 can by Keyport, I think that's the beginning of the Chapel Hill Channel. I don't remember, that could also be the beginning of the Reach. The only #1 I went to, was the one in the Ambrose. Dan, sorry if that info was incorrect, but I thought that was the one you wanted. Good LUCK THIS WEEKEND !!!!! |

I thought the #1 can was right outside Keyport? If the weather is nice saturday, I'll be in the ambrose channel and by he TC buoy. May even give the islands a try. |

Sea, Sun morn by the bug light, to the left of the channel we caught quite a few in a short time with one keeper. I think it was on a killie because thats what my daughter in law likes to use. nice fat ones. then we moved to the channel off the west bank light house and squid was working in the deep water with one more keeper. These fish were just making the 21 inches though. No real big ones. Last year my daughter in law got a 7.5 pounder by that bug light. i think the bug light is good early before all the boat traffic. |

The beginning of Ambrose, around the hook. It's a nice run from Great Kills, around one hour. Went there a couple of times for Fluke, nothing to write home about. |

Giorgio- I have been fishing everywhere. From the hook to the TC buoy to old orchard, GK bug light. Everywhere you can imagine. I was going to try the Ambrose and SH channel this weekend. If not, i was thinking maybe by the islands or in the back of the bay. As for bait- I have mostly been using bucktails with squid strips and spearing or gulp. What other bait should I use? At this point, I will try anything. Nick- welcome to the site. |

So I had all intentions of making my first trip to the SH reef yesterday but when I got close to the hook, the waves were a little too much for me to be comfortable so I fished around the hook and ammo pier. One keeper. I checked NOAA's website and it was reading 4ft waves out by the entrance to NY harbor. Good thing we didnt go. |

Went out at 7am and back by 1030am.Short trip. My daughter in law brought her cousin from Germany who got sick. In the short time we fished , we caught about 15 with 2 keepers. One by old faithfull, the bug light, and one in the channel off west bank. water was beautifull. Usually when I take someone out and they get sick I dont go back, but I made an exception. I didnt want him going home with a bad experience and 2 keepers for me is good. |
