Hey everybody....tried to post this before, but was too much of an idiot to figure out how to register.....think I got it (sorry Larry and Bob) Fished Tuesday, we were south and west of the donut...picked up a triple only at around 34 40 and 121 50. We saw one other puddler with some birds on it, but wouldn't bite...threw lots of bait on everything...no bait fish... Water was 60.5 max when we started in the am, almost 62 in the afternoon when we finished...somewhat off color but not terrible... thats it! |

Ripcharts has a true color shot from 9/1 that shows nothing but dirty water out to where 6pak said. Their altimetry shot also shows a huge downwelling occurring in our area. The spot where Olsen caught his fish is on the edge of that downwelling. |

I suspect this what Mike was referring to if you overlay the two images from yesterday's peek thru the fog. |

Not sure which site your looking at but the water south of the Davidson is greenish, pretty far from blue. That whole area is greenish. No real blue water until you get out way past the 123 line. Trust me! |

Mike, I think you have your numbers screwed up. Those numbers are right on top of Monterey. If your looking at that good temp break just west of the Davidson, the water there is greenish. |

If sats are correct, weather stays down for morning, head to 36.36.50/121 56.50, put lines in when you hit the current break. it may be 10 miles before that and follow the canyon to the davidson.you should load the boat, water temp jumps huge there. Nothing worse than being without a boat! |

i am just confused as heck! latest satellite shots shows deep blue water all the way to San Simeon from Cape san Martin Bouy. I just can not believe the water can flip that fast. What do you think Harrell. You have watched our coast for a long time, possable? Sad part is i am still grounded waiting for engine to be installed, engine in, wrong controll cables. |

From G Olsen: Fished yesterday, ended up getting a triple S and W of the donut by about 10-15 miles (I think it was 34 40 and 121 50)...temp 61.5 later in the day, started at 60.5....greenish water...worked that area for another 5 hours...saw some puddlers under some birds, but wouldn't bite...o/w saw nothing else all day... thats it! underwhelming but from what I understand, the only fish caught yesterday...pretty lean.... |

Just back from Morro. Report for Sept 1st. Took a vacation day with tuna in mind. baited up at 530 am with some great dines and choves from Doug onboard the Billy Boy. Thanks again Doug. Worked uphill and found 58.2 degree water at 35.30 up and 121.40 out. Its was apparent the Break had moved at least 8 miles based on previous SST from 8/30. So that's where we dropped in the gear and proceeded to work Southwest. Water was off color, blue green and not much life. Worked out to 121.45 line and dragged the feathers for some 60 miles. Zero fish. Hat's off to the 4 other boats that worked further offshore and the guys onshore who have been providing updated intel. Still time left for a run. |

I needed the boat to haul home all the gear, rods, icechests, clothes, tackle boxes, supplies, etc and wanted to de rig the kicker for self service and pull the electronics and be 5 only miles away when/if it requires or I desire inspection etc. |

Barry, Next time leave the boat at Port with Marty or Del.. Have them fix it... I have a Merc Cruiser and one of my buddies has a Volvo, both have been repaired at Port... They do a great job there and a very competitive rate... Highly recommended... |

Margaritas at Harrell's Place! Fished Pt. Sal & Mussel today for a bag of mostly Bolina with a Red and a Copper thrown in. Pretty average size for what I'd consider a mediocre bite. Little sloppy running down this morning on top of <1/4 mi visibility all day. Ride home was better. Catch of the day was an unfortunate boater with electronics and engine failure with no known posit that was smart to throw out his hook and hang tight until an assist arrived. The crew of USCG Motor Lifeboat 280 were hunting him down in pea soup and we got to him at nearly the exact time after we pulled off from Mussel to join in the hunt. Radar is your friend on days like today. Good to see that ended safely. |

Damn, I might have to convert to a sail boat for fishing. Check this out. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hydropt%C3%A8re On September 4, 2009, the Hydroptère broke the outright world record, sustaining a speed of 52.86 kn (97.90 km/h) for 500m in 30 knots of wind.[2] In November 2009, she broke the 50 knot barrier for a nautical mile with a speed of 50.17 kn (92.91 km/h) in Hyères, France.[3] |

WANT ALBACORE???? 36.20-123.56! I know it's a it's a long run out of Monterey, 90 plus. Look at it this way you run twice 50 to 60 miles out for no fish. You run once to the outside and load up. I am moving into a new home this week but the next window if that warm very blue water is still there I am going for it. |

His and Hers Diary, to all fisherman: Her Diary: Tonight, I thought my husband was acting weird. We had made plans to meet at a nice restaurant for dinner. I was shopping with my friends all day long, so I thought he was upset at the fact that I was a bit late, but he made no comment on it. Conversation wasn't flowing, so I suggested that we go somewhere quiet so we could talk. He agreed, but he didn't say much. I asked him what was wrong; He said, 'Nothing.' I asked him if it was my fault that he was upset. He said he wasn't upset, that it had nothing to do with me, and not to worry about it. On the way home, I told him that I loved him. He smiled slightly, and kept driving. I can't explain his behavior I don't know why he didn't say, 'I love you, too.' When we got home, I felt as if I had lost him completely, as if he wanted nothing to do with me anymore. He just sat there quietly, and watched TV. He continued to seem distant and absent. Finally, with silence all around us, I decided to go to bed. About 15 minutes later, he came to bed. To my surprise, he responded to my caress, and we made love. But I still felt that he was distracted, and his thoughts were somewhere else. He fell asleep - I cried. I don't know what to do. I'm almost sure that his thoughts are with someone else. My life is a disaster. His Diary: Boat wouldn't start, can't figure it out, at least I got laid. |

Don; NOAA has a site where you can view the chlorphyll images and they have an "app' that allows you to cursor a lat/lon and get a quantitative read out of the value. I did that where Seeker caught those fish last week and it was .6mg/cubic meter. I call that clean green. |

thanks harrell. how does the fish caught at 25 miles last week fit into your equation. I know it was a pretty long time with no satellite shots. When I used to dive, the plankton would die off after several days of marine layer. Then when the sun came back out, the first day would be great viz. and deteriorate each day after. -Donny |

SST/chlorophyll Been playing with the SST/chlorophyll as long or longer than anyone that has ever posted on this site. Spent $600 on my first subscription and it was only for 3 months. I have never seen the changes like today on two images only ten hours apart. When I was talking to the boats out today I couldn't believe what I was hearing vs. what I was looking at. But, now that I have seen the images from 2pm it all makes sense I have found that less than 1 mg/cubic meter is generally where the albacore will be found (if they are in the area) and .5 or less is much better. I know that many have been caught in dirty water but in my opinion not far from clean water. Based on this afternoon's chloro I don't think there is any water clean enough inside of 60 miles. The three boats out there today collectively covered the water from the 1908 up to 35:30/121:30 and all with much the same report.....dirty and no good signs. I think we need a week or 10 days of no wind for the water to clean up and then maybe the fish will move in. |

The stars are for the quality of the posts that we supply. A post that belongs on a chat line gets one star for being a waste of time and a post that is useful gets more stars, up to 5, for being info we all can use. |

Evenin All Well in light of the reports from today and the calls of guys not going out tuna fishin, I'll be opening up at normal 5:30 time. We had a few guys down at the coke plant today with no wsb caught but they said it was so thick with barracuda they couldn't get their line to the bottom. So whatever you guys want to do I'll be in at normal time and we'll hope things change on the outside for tuna later. Good Fishin Marty |

I saw Marty late this afternoon. He was busy with work in the boatyard. Unless a group regenerates and arranges for an early launch, I would doubt he will be in at 4 as previously discussed. Several of us, myself included, have changed our plans to run outside in light of the conditions and have brought that to his attention. We'll be launching still, just not that early. I'm certain Marty will be through here in a while to share his plans. |

Did anyone go towards the north or just out towards the 1908. Wondering if it is cleaner up towards the CSM buoy. Harrell do you have any good terrafin shots for temp and chlorophyll today? Tempbreak has decent temp shot but no chlorophyll. Might be willing to try tomorrow if I can get more info, unless it does not look worth while. Thanks, Kevin (KATMANDU) |

For those that burned gas today ...thank you! And for the guy that likes to put a childish 1 STAR next to my name each post ... I will do it for you this time!!! There were many years I was the one that burnned the first fuel of the year along with Hather and a few others out past the elbow for just one or two fish. Also in the early years of Chloro I provided Harrell with pictures so he could do his overlays that we all used to find the fish. (Thanks again Harrell) This was the one site that I did not think would follow the demise of the rest. But it seems to be going there. Good luck to those running tomorrow .... be safe and hope you find them! |

Waiting for a final report from the three boats out hunting for albacore but as Ray indicated the earlier reports (1pm) were not encouraging to say the least. Dirty water and no fish or good signs. There are still squid and lots of barracuda at the coke plant. If the squid are still there the WSB are probably there also. So try plan B ! |
