Come go fishing in Destin, always something to do, always something to catch, I have read some reports here. Remember time spent fishing has no equal, success depends on how you adapt. |

What were you fishing with to catch the red off the destin jetties? Which side were you fishing, East or West Jetties? I am going to be there on May 15 so I am hoping to catch some dinner. |

Are there any Spanish or King mackerel being caught at any of the bridges or peirs in the area. The end of March we went to Shalimar Bridge and cought a nice speck and we jumped to Destin Bridge coming from the Island and we were able to catch a very nice legal Red . However I am looking for the good schools of the spanish and Kings and have been unable to make it down in the recent weeks. |

I recently went snapper fishing on a charter boat. The Gulf was like glass it was soo flat. The captain was a pure idiot!!! We would drop for about 2 minutes, then move. We spent more time riding than fishing!!! But I didnt have to pay,my friend did. At the end of the day, we had 11 red snapper and 2 black snapper(five people were fishing.) |

I have not gone out since June 23, 2004. We caught so many fish I am still eating them. My group went on an 8 hour trip. We limited the boat with red snapper, caught a couple of grouper, some trigger fish, a wahoo, some vermillion snapper and some white snapper. I may go out and do some bridge fishing this weekend to see what is biting. I hear from my friends the surf fishing is very slow due to the June Grass. (it is seaweed that get all over your line each time you cast out) |

I'm heading to Destin the first week of August. I'm planning to bring my boat. I'm hoping to do some flats fishing for trout maybe reds if their biting. I'm also particularly interested in fishing just off the surf for Spanish and Jack's. I've never fished the Destin area. I would be very greatful to anyone who can give me advice on the tactics/bait to use in this area |

I'm traveling to Ft Walton Beach for the July 4th week. I'd like to do some surf fishing or at least fish from a pier. Has anyone got any suggestions on where/what to use? I've fished for specs and reds many times, but I'm not sure what's good in this area for that time. Any help would greatly be appreciated. Thanks, Joe |

A group of 4 adults and 7 kids went out early on June 4th, with Capt. Dave (indemand) and his mates for a wonderful haul of 2- spanish mack's, 1 red snapper, 1- cobia, 1- king something (not very good eating, but a fun fight) 10- mack's, at least 6 broken lines and 1- 7' spinner within 18" of the top of the water (great for a picture), just to much to fight with in the boat. Bait fish were plentiful, and we had at least a half dozen spectator boats (sorry it wasn't as good for you as it was for us). Great fishin and great time ! Tom from Texas..... |

In response to Adams question. Spanish Mackerel started running a couple weeks ago when it was warm. I caught me limit(15) in the surf in Destin in about 2 hours. They were schooling like crazy, birds everywhere, baitfish everywhere. Since then weather has been so up and down, have not seen them around. |

Does anyone know what is running off the Jetties or Okaloosa Island Pier, what are they hitting and when are they starting the run, before sunrise shortly after or after it warms up some. |

Lets get Destin back at the top of this list.Destin the hottest fishing spot in Florida, for those of you who do not know, Destin has the largest charter fleet in the whole state. Early morning finds many boats meandering around the pass, whats up with that? Baitfish, thats what, livewells abound in this fishing frenzy port. lots of slang names for these wiggling critters, but the most sought after is the 'Herring". Cigarfish,Hardtails, and Threadfins come in a distant fourth. In the Summer , Red Snapper are abundant, Amberjacks also start to show up in numbers. Kingfish have been Red Hot at times this year, and Blackfin Tuna are showing up better than ever.As October approaches Destin sports a Month long fishing Rodeo with prizes for everyone, lots of BIG fish will be weighed as Captains and Mates fish hard in this competetive seaport, come go fishing in beautiful Destin, Florida's best kept secret!!! |

Subject: 52# cobia
Does anyone know what the record is for a woman catching a cobia on 20# test line is ? My wife is 5'3", and she caught a cobia while we fishing in the sapelo king tourney, that is as long as she can stretch out her arms(fingertip to fingertip) I think she may have a record. Any info would be useful. |

I will be in Destin the week of the July 4th and remember that it is usually good fishing off the jetties. Has anyone had any luck and what bait is best before sunrise and after? Also, what about surf fishing? Last summer, lot of red tide, not many sand crabs. What is it like this year, and what are people catching in the surf? Thanks in advance for any info. If you are ever in Tunica, Mississippi, home of Southern Las Vegas, let me know, I sell farm-raised catfish. |

Subject: big fish
Fishing out of Destin last thursday, I stopped over a wreck and managed to put a 30# cobia in the box. While I was at it, I had some top lines out and picked up a dolphin, about 22". I tried to entice more but they would not bite so I put the live dolphin on a 16/0 circle hook on the pole that I call beastmaster. Thisa is a pen 9/0 rod and reel with 200# spectra on it. I put the dolphin just off the bottom and in a few minutes the pole doubled. I keep the drag locked for big grouper and it took about five minutes to get the pole out of the holder and into my fighting belt. This monster actually pulled drag and I have never had a fish do that on that pole. After about ten minutes the 125# leader broke and I almost went over backwards. I started laughing from the adrenalin rush and then I noticed that my anchor rope was hanging loose under the boat. This fish actually towed my 5000# boat fourty feet up the rope!!!!Ended up with nice snapper, bluefish and the cobia and one sore lower back. |
