Subject: fall flats fishing

The Fall months in the keys are considered the prime time for trophy bonefish. The cooler water and absence of flats boats on the flats - put the big schools of trophy "grey ghosts" on the shallow flats. Guides are usually open for last min. trips - and the slower tourist traffic make the keys a popular destination for a relaxing trip to the sun and fun. Permit - backcountry tarpon - and snook are also plentiful as are the speckled trout and reds . If no major storms are present the winds are usually down and the temps. in the upper 70's to low 80's. From now till the middle of december should be Red Hot !!!!

The Bonefishing has picked up over the past 2 weeks on the middle keys Flats and warmer than normal january temps have brought down some mid sized tarpon in the channels surrounding the Seven Mile Bridge in Marathon - The early silver kings are the mid sized fish 30 to 40 pounds - but will take flies on sinking fly lines and slowly fished small live bait's.
If the temps hold in the low eighties over th next few weeks the area will experience an excellent tarpon season
