Subject: Grand Isle Report
Beautiful conditions at Grand Isle today for fishing. Calm seas, good tidal movement periods and beautiful water conditions lead to limits of speckled trout today. The rising tide this morning gave us many options on where to fish. We found trout on both sides of the island today. We started on the western side at the oyster reefs in Camadada Bay. Who let out the secret as there were at least twenty boats anchored on the reef. We caught consistent fish, but they were small. We worked our way toward the other side of the Island checking several beach and rock locations on the way. We caught fish at pretty much every spot, but they were small. We saw several groups of birds working over shrimp, but the fish were small. We finally made it to the eastern side and found paydirt. The trout were ganged up on the edge of a channel near oyster reefs. Armed with live shrimp, croakers and cocahoes we proceeded to wear out the trout until a storm ran us in at 10:00 AM. The shower ended after thirty minutes and we ran back to the same spot. We anchored on the ledge and let the tide swing us into the channel. We would cast into the channel and the bait would fall towards the ledge, it rarely made it that far before being inhaled by a quality speck. We caught these fish with bait, carolina rigged. I bet those same trout are on top of that reef in the morning and evenings and suspended off the ledge during the heat of the day. Try a cork over the reef and the bottom rig in the channel and you are sure to find some fish. Good luck this weekend! Captain Jeff J.
