Subject: fishing in the wind

The winds of May look like they will top the March winds this year. After a great weeks fishing ,now this weeks a wash out so far. The Lafitte area has high water like we have not seen for a while now.The salt content has come up with the water level. Our La. Wildlife&Fisheries guys says lots of shrimp now call Lake Salvador home.High water in Lafitte means clean water, which the speckd and reds will turn on big time as the water starts to drop as the winds lay down. The area down south near Hackberry Bay will be the HOT spot as well as Plum Point. C-Way Marina will have live shrimp starting next week,if we can keep them in stock! We will show anyone a few good spots on our big instore map. Thanks!

Limits of specs hit the dock early today. Moat are from 1-3 lbs.,really nice fish. The big limits came mostly from The Barataria Bay and Hackberry Bay area. Live minnows being the best bait. We will also have live bait shrimp as soon as the season opens. That will be 5-13-03 so be ready. This weekend fishing should be a lot E.Z.,compared to the past few. Thanks

Subject: Spring Time Fishing

A little to much wind was the excuse for the day. Nearly all of our fishermen said the same.A few really nice specs from Hackberry Bay and a mix of reds and drum from nearly every where is what hit the dock today. Bayou Dupont ponds are low but still have red hitting shrimp under a cork. Fishing will improve as we move away from the recent cold front. Good salt water is coming in now with the south wind. The wildlife and fisheries guys are starting to find our first shrimp of the coming season, good news! It's only going to get better week by week. Stop by C-Way Marina an we will show you a few hot spots on our BIG in store Map. Thanks

Subject: friends catch redfish

Three out of four on this fishing trip were Hinton's from Lafitte C-Way Marina. We were invited to fish with Captain Pounders for today. No, we did not go to the Boat Show today. It was kind of cold early ,so we waited until 9:00 before leaving the dock. Texaco canals on the left going south from Lafitte, near No Name Bayou is the spot, shrimp pr plastic worked just the same. I used a small H&P minnow green and black, I really don't the color has much to do with the bite right now. The few canals that have fish are packed.Very few fishermen today ,so it was E.Z. fishing in those canals. We ended the morning trip with a great catch of 20 redfish by 11:00. Thanks Capt. John for the great time. Boat show Sunday,,,,Maybe!

Knock em' out again today. Redfish were eatting the bait big time today. Still not very many fishermen out there right now.I guess you don't like low water??? Anyway Captain Pounders, Mr. Joe P.& the MAIN guys from Ruth Chris's Steak House came down to C-Way Marina for a day off from cooking and serving those great steaks to fish with us. We had a really great fun day catching reds. At 10:00 we turn the boat north and back to Lafitte. Each of our 8 fishermen had there limit, a total of 40 big reds. Half caught on fresh shrimp and half on plastic, all under a cork. Thanks

The Avoyelles parish fish hunters were at it again in Lafitte . A Great day after the long ride down from Simmesport paid off big time. Full Limits for all before 9:00 this morning. All were caught in the Lafitte oil field canals. Lots of reds in a few deep canals. All but one was caught on fresh shrimp . One was snagged with a plastic minnow. The wind and low temperature made for the right conditions for the fish hunters to fill there limits quick

I think we had a great day catching red fish in Lafitte. A little cold at first, then warming up nicely. No shortage on red fish today . Three at a time once in awhile and lots of pairs. We caught them all in The canals south of Little Lake, all with shrimp under a cork. We made it back the the C-Way Marina dock by noon with 25 big ones. Not bad for 5 cold fishermen.A few specs are showing up in the Texaco Canals now also. Thanks!

Subject: Little Lake Red Fish

Red Hot in Lafitte. Yea, the Red Fish are in Lafitte Big time. Again today very few fishermen and lots and lots of Reds. Severial spots in the Little Lake area are giving up big reds right now. Today it was light winds and few boats . All of the fishermen I talked to had limits of REDS, they were caught of fresh shrimp under a cork. Where there are run outs from the marsh into Little Lake are the best producing spots. The falling tide is the rest of the answer.I think the bad weather reports and Christmas shopping kept the fishermen away from Lafitte. Mr Grady Warren ,from the Red Fish Tour Inc. , had a grope of guys from Fl. fishing with Captain's Joe Bush & John Pounder's today.Total of 9 limits [45] redfish by 8:30,really great. I think Sunday will also be a great fishing day. We will show you these hot spots on our in store map,ask for Dwight or Donavon at C-Way Marina. Info free of charge again this week. Thanks

Subject: Red Fish and Drum

It looks like the red fish just want quit bitting. We had severial fisermen limit out on Reds again today. One guy used a gold spoon fished slow on the bottom to get his fish. However most are still coming from fresh shrimp from under a cork.In some of the cuts where the current a little to strong, shrimp on the bottom works great. The West side of Little Lake remains the best spot. It has truly been THE spot for the last 4 weeks. Friday will be canal time for us. We will work some of the Winter time hot spots for Reds. That should be an E.Z. job. We will get a late start, around 8:00 and hope to be back at C-Way Marina by noon with full limits of Reds. There are a few spots on the main Canal that are producing bull reds also. Thanks!

The drum did a roll today. Nearly any where in the west Little Lake area, fishing for red fish and drum is just been great. Very few fishermen are taking advantage for the mild weather to knock em' dead. Shrimp is deadly under a cork fished close to the shoreline. The specks had just started bitting today again as the water has been clearing up. It seems like another cold front is on the way down to us. This might slow the bite a little, but it will be back up soon. Stop in at C-Way Marina and we will show you the hot spot on our BIG in store map. Thanks

Subject: Tuna and A.J.'s

One of the best offshore trips EVER today. I had a great day fish with a great bunch of old friends& family. I had a offshore 24 hour fishing trip set up with Frank Hardison, with the world famous Hardison Offshore Chaters Service, near Grand Island. We left the marina dock at 11:00 Monday ,off on a 220 mile round trip Yellow Fin Tuna trip. After a 3 hours ride into 300 ft. of clear water we got after Amber Jacks, Just a little warm up for the night time tuna fishing coming up latter. At the first stop we had no A J's at all, however about 15 red snappers in the 15 to 20# range hit the deck before we left the rig wishing that we would not had to throw them ALL BACK. The second the same thing ,all big monster red snappers. It's hard to throw them back,BUT. We ran another 30 minutes south to deeper water. There were the A.J.'s waiting. In about 1 hour we had 12 big ones in the box ,iced up ready the go. Another 1 hour and in 3000 ft. of water Capt. Frank said Tuna Time. We only ended up with 2 60+ lb. fish in the bOat. It looked like there was always something that did not work for us.I think the count was 8 tuna that got away from us. At around 3a.m. we let the Yellow fin and ran back to the 500ft. of water rigs in South Tim. blocks to finish out the a.j. limit. No problem there,1 hour and we were on the ride in. Really great guys to fish with. Our total count for thr 16 man crew was 32 A.J.'s and 2 Yellow Fin Tuna. All of the tuna bites came from the Green Canyon Rigs in the deep water. Frank has the long range boats with bunks ,A.C.,T.V. and all fo the rest of the good stuff. Call him,one of the very best! The picture enclosed is Captain John pounders with his Tuna

Our red fishing is better now that the bad weather has passed. I am seeing limits and near limits come into the dock often. Most are being caught on freashshrimp under a cork. With the water still stained ,that's what it takes. The specks are still not bunched up much at all. But,you can hit quite afew in the Texaco canals. This coming weekend should be great fishing. Hook em up!

Peter, Drew, and Chris, are pictured here showing off a few of the red fish they caught on their trip today. Chris fished with me just 2 weeks ago when we caught a lot of trout, but today was very much different. The trout bite never did get fast and furious and although we managed to catch some, the red fish bite was a lot better. It didn't take Peter long to hook up once we found a school. Then shortly after Drew and Chris hooked two at the same time and the screaming drags became music to my ears. I was a very busy guide keeping up with these guys. You will be reading more in the future about them because they'll be back again this summer and I want to hear more about the baked red fish they are going to fix tonight.

Debbie and Steve Wood, with their "red fish catching" friend Jared show off the larger fish of the day. Jared, who had never caught a red before got his fill today, along with sore arms, holds up his first red fish in the second picture at the link above. What a beauty!

It was a little windy from the south and a sudden change to the north east affected the bite, but we still managed to catch a mess of trout along with 14 reds. I'll bet they'll be looking for more of these when they come back to fish again on Monday. We'll be sure to continue this story then.

Severial guys were back at the marina by 10:00 with there fish.most were after the specs that are turned on now.The waters around Lafitte and south of us are improving each day. But, it took long enough. A lot of the PRO fishing guides are bring Live Shrimp with them and showing there guest some of the best fishing in Louisiana. From Mud Lake south, around the small islands is a great place to start, the tides are working great right now, incoming all morning. Capt. James Wilson was right about the H&P Goldfish minnow, they are one of the very best baits for the big bay specs! Yes, we will have your live shrimp in the morning waiting for you, catch em!!!

So you want to know whats happing in Lafitte huh?? The fishing is still good IF you fish like I do . Live bait is the main dish this time of the year in Lafitte. Sure, that guy got lucky an caught a 10# spec on a plastic bait the other day!! But ,remenber the spec did not get to weight 10# by eating plastic all of his life, LIVE bait he his main dish!! Right now I am doing well on the live minnows fished on the bottom ,right along the main channel south of the marina. The same spots that we catch so many reds latter on in the year,is now giving up lots of specs on these windy days. The Texaco Cannals are also doing better than ever for this time of the year on specs. I guess because of more fishing going on there because of the high winds blowing nearly every day. The fish are also out in the big lake ,when you can make it out there. The Saturday Isle platform gave up some really big specs the other morning when the wind forgot to blow. S I have had great reports on our upcoming shrimp season, The Wildlife guy told me Mondays test in Little Lake showed 700 ,80/100 count shrimp in a 7 minute test trawl. C-Way Marina will have your LIVE SHRIMP after the May 16th. opening, live shrimp in Lafitte, all right!!

Where did all the fishermen go??? Great weather, cool temps,a little windy, but nice. Oh,you let the weather guy scare you of again did you??? You will never learn, give us a call ,check the winds in Lafitte ,get a fishing report first hand. The water in a lot of spots is dirty, but there are always spots to find good water and less wind. The specs are hiding very well right now. Only a few coming from the texaco canals. The reds are still bitting in some of the canals ,buts also on the shorelines also. I talk to severial commerical fishermen almost ever day that tell me about spots the redfish are so thich they have to pick up there fishing lines and move out of the area because redfish end up on every other hook on the lines. These guys are fishing for puppy black drum. On a slow day there boat will bring in only a few hunderd lbs. on a great day there sell up to 3000 lbs. of fish. All are caught on catfish type fishing lines in the shollow duck ponds. The same spots we all fish in the summer and say right noW the water is just to cold and low. I can have a 1000 lbs. of puppy drums waiting at the dock for you any day of the week for 50cents a lb. Remenber these guys had to pull away from the reds because they were to many bitting

Subject: specs in Lake Salvador

Hi Folks,

Well, it started off as two beautiful days on the 29th and 30th. Capt.
Mike, Danny, Garry, and I went to Lafitte C-Way Marina to chase the illusive
Speckled Trout. We had a ESE wind and we found a location that was holding
some Great Specs. We fished until 12:30 on the 29th and caught 81 Trout and
had 6-8 throw backs. Our biggest Trout was 19.5 inches. On the 30th Danny,
Garry, and I returned to the same location and picked up 50 Trout. The South
wind started blowing around 09:30 and the bigger fish hit for about an hour.
We caught our fish on High Tide Glow/Chartruese baits with a 3/16th Oz White
or Chartreuse Head. High Tide Baits are available at C-Way Marina. We
finished each day by stopping at Jan's for some delicious Onion Rings, and
lunch. Capt. Mike and I will be working with Sportsman Cove during the N. O.
Boat show. If you have an opportunity please stop by and visit. If you need a
New SeaPro or accessories we will be glad to help.

With the weather warming up a lot. The reds are back in the open bays. We had a three man limit of red fish by 9:30 this morning. All of these fish were on the large size, with around 15 legal size throw backs. We fish in Bay Long for these reds. They are still schooled up on the shore lines. We will have to try to find the school, then anchor out. We try a few places before finding the right spot on the shoreline. After that it was no problem putting all you wanted in the boat.We fish the bottom and under a cork with fresh shrimp. All of the plastics we tried would not work like the bait did. Really ,it was ugly color water,I guess that why the bait shrimp worked so well. I see most of the fishing guides that catch limits in dirty water use bait, you needed it today for sure.

Subject: Reds in low water

Captain John pounders ask me to go fishing for red fish this morning,so I went. WE wanted to try a spot with very little pressure on it .We took off to the BASA BASA area. Just to the west of the bay we went into a nice size pond. With the water only 12 to 18 inches deep the reds were thick.I think it was the most red fish I had seen in one pond in a long while. We ended up with our ten fish in a short time. I only use a 1/4 oz. gold spoon and John used severial different curly tail grubs. All the colors he tried worked about the same.Don't get me wrong it took about 2 hours to catch our limit, the shollow water is tough fishing.I mean we saw reds at all time swimming around.I fish the shollow water of Lafitte often and this was a time of seeing a great number of spookie reds. Once they spook and run ,I have no luck in getting them to bite anything. The next best thing going on was the spec bite starting up again in Lake Salvador. Yesterday it was fair ,but today in turn out to be good. the water is higher and cleaner than last week for sure.

Again today we had a lot of red fish hit the docks. The fish have mostly left from the canals an are back in the big open bays. The pen is a place a lot of guys ask about, however the Pen has ice cold, muddy river water right now, So no Pen for a while I guess. The hottest spot today was Bay Long, several limits of reds came from there. One good report from a good friend said reds on a gold spoon were E.Z. down at Airplane Bay.The Live Minnows caught,as well as the fresh shrimp did. Again today several fishermen said try fishing the cork, then hit the bottom. We are finding a lot of our big fish bottom feeding. This coming week will bring great fishing. Be There.

Don't think that the reds are not bitting in Lafitte! They are ,lots of reds are being caught in severial spots, 3 Bayou Bay, Bay Round, Little Lake, and of coarse in the Texaco system. More reds today than in a while hit the docks today. Most are being caught with Live minnows and fresh shrimp. You need to try both with a cork and on the bottom at nearly each spot you fish. The water has warmed up 18* from a week ago. This is helping a lot, also the water came back up a good bit.

Subject: red fish on bulk heads

At about 7a.m. Capt. John ,Mr. Joe and myself left the marina to look for red fish. After a short boat ride to the Red eye cut area, we stop at a Bulk Head.We wanted to try and see if maybe these old bulk heads near the mouth on different canals were holding a few redfish. We did not get to check but one. I never had to move from that spot. We put the boat on anchor, baited with fresh shrimp, and started to fish. After a few small under size reds, we went to the bottom.thats were they were big time. It looked like one end held the small reds ,while the other had nearly all big fish. I would throw the bait ,a lot of time letting it hit the bulk head ,then falling into the water. This put the shrimp right at the very base of the structrue. With a super lite bite ,and sometime just swimming off with the bait,we caught most of them 2 at a time. So, it did not take long before we had our 15 big reds . I wanted to stay longer,so it was then a catch and release game. After a short while we left them still biteing. It dosn't seem as much fun when you can't keep any more. This was the first time this winter I tried fishing at some of the old bulk heads, next time out we will hit them again. The water is still real low in Lafitte, and not real clear, but very fishable. Papa Joe Bush also came in today with FIVE limits of red fish that he and his customers caught this morning

With the strong winds and thunderstorms it's been hard to get out in the big lakes to catch Specs but the Reds have been co operating on a regular basis.
The best baits have been ( cocahoes ) pearl w/ green back, pearl w/ black back & purple w/ white tail.
If you like top water try the new Sanomi Lures or Top Dogs. I've been catching reds on them morning, noon and evening.
Happy Fishing,

Subject: Great Day, Great Catch

Tommy, my helper from work and I had to work a late shift Friday so we decided to fish the morning hours. We got a good and early start and made it to the Green Bridge at day break. It took about ten min. to get to the bottem of the Pen. I had pulled some real nice reds out of this area just last weekend with my wife. (For you guys that don't take your wife, you don't know what you are missing. It can be a great time if you give it a chance.) Tommy had never been saltwater fishing before, so after a crash corse in tackle, line tieing, and casting he casted out and in a matter of seconds had a line striping red on. He landed the 22" beauty and in no time we had eight red in the box rangeing from 17" to 28". We made our way around the marsh to end up with a mixed bag of reds, specks, drum, and sheephead. We had to leave them bitting so we could make it to work on time. Tommy and I had a great time. Working in evening is not so bad when you can fish in the morning.
