My father and I would like to go deep sea fishing in the Chesapeake off Annapolis or the area. In Houston we would call ahead and join various other small groups of people on a large boat. There must have been 80 on board. Is there anything like this here, or do you have to charter a boat?

Report:
The great chumming continued this past week. The fish may be getting a little smaller, but nice fish are still available. We caught fish up to 28". Alewive and razor clam chum and standard chumming rigs baited with alewive, clam, soft crab, and blood worm all caught fish. Once the fish show on your fishfinder, anchor over them, and start your chum slick. Put your baits at different depths until you find where the bites are occurring. Then switch as many lines as you can to the target depth.

Report:
Chumming for Striped Bass (Rockfish)continued to be hot throughout the week. We are using an alewive and razor clam mixture for chum and the 5/0 circle hooks are baited with alewive, clam, or soft crab. Depending on the current, various sized weights are used to get the bait in front of the fish. We have been able to limit out in about two hours. I've done a little exploring for daytime croaker and perch in the main part of the bay without much success. Some Black Drum have been caught off the Choptank.

Report:
Today was probably our last day of trolling for trophy fish. We trolled between buoy "1" off the West river & Bloody Point. We were marking a lot of fish, and caught our limit of fish between 18" and 30". The fish were stacked up along the 30' ledge and at the 50' contour. Umbrella rigs continued to be the top producer along with small (1 oz.) bucktails and 4" sassy shads (white on white). The chumming boats did well too. I'm switching to chumming so that everyone can enjoy the fight these smaller fish will give on light spinning tackle.

Report:
The Trophy season continues to be the best in years. The fish are scattered from 25' to 75' with umbrellas continuing to be the best lures. White, green, and yellow all work depending on the conditions. The western channel edge from Thomas Point South continues to be where we are catching our fish.

Report:
The fishing in the Thomas Point to Bloody Point areas has been the same since opening day. The fish have moved into a little shallower water, and green seems to work a little better on rainy days. We have caught our fish at various depths with the hottest lures being sassy shads on umbrella rigs. As is typical for rockfish, you need to wait for the bite to come on. We have been marking plenty of fish. Most of the fish we are catching are pre-spawn fish. I expect the fishing will heat up in the next week, especially if we have some warm weather.
