16th Annual Ocean City Tuna Tournament Approved By International Game Fish Association
The 16th Annual Ocean City Tuna Tournament has recently accepted an invitation from the International Game Fish Association to become a qualifying event for the ROLEX/IGFA Offshore Championship. The IGFA, headquartered in Dania Beach, Florida looks for those tournaments that have a proven track record of providing their participants with a first class event as well as attracting a broad spectrum of anglers.
Every year the Ocean City Tuna Tournament strives to provide it’s participants with three days of “Big Game” fishing, great food and drink, a variety of nightly entertainment, marine artists, fashion shows, and of course some impressive big money pay-outs. Last season, the 15th Annual Ocean City Tuna Tournament saw 1100 anglers competing for over $300,000 in prize money and thousands of spectators viewing that daily weigh-ins. Hosted by the Ocean City Fishing Center located in West Ocean City, Maryland, this season’s tournament is scheduled for July 10th –13th,2003 and expects a record turn-out once again.
An invitation to compete at the ROLEX/IGFA Offshore Championship in Mexico will be extended to the top team of anglers at the conclusion of the 16th Annual Ocean City Tuna Tournament. The top team of anglers from the Ocean City Tournament will compete against some of the best offshore anglers in the world. Currently there are forty tournaments from twenty-one countries and ten U.S. states in this series. The inclusion of the Ocean City Tuna Tournament into this select cadre of world-class tournaments will undoubtedly generate a great deal of exposure for the tournament, it’s sponsors, and Ocean City.
