Blue Fin Charters Shark trip.August 2003 . Fair winds 15kns s/w and clear skies sea light rollers well spaced Had to go sharking headed due south of the {hooter} aka secreet bass grounds s/e of marthars vindvard. To the 150 foot line tempature break near the {star} aka secreet tuna grounds.Rose from 66 degrees to 70.5 on the 150 foot line. Headed west on the line until located drager dumping its dicard . Left floaters on surface set in middel of discard First time tryed doublel strick chum.Long tube ground chum forular.Just slit plastic tube two inch slit tied to a line placerd over side added fresh frozzen mackeral for hook baits.allso used floaters as big feed bag .Small mako shows up in slick noise popping up above water line chopping on the discardes. Way too much bait on top and in water so we could,t even get a toss bait to intress him He just turn away each time we driffted near him or just motored up to reset a drift to intrcept him. After some frustration .We pulled up our set and headed west on the 150 ft line to a set of fingers on the gps aka inside fingers headed to the top of first fingers drop off of 165 feet on its west tip .Set in double strike chum comes five rolls to a case.used three for this day.placed 1st line 150 feet back at 90 feet down used 12oz sinkers. 2nd 100 feet back at60 feet down 3rd at 50 feet back at 30 feet down all with maceral hook baits. Leaders 6 ft of #19 coffee collor singel strand wire big swivel for grasping and 6 ft multy strand wire 250 lb test to 9/0 mustard 9166 tuna offset hook. crimed all wire to propper sized crimpes .One outfit kept in reserve for a toss bait. Here we toss in floaters from drager as chum bait not to fast. Not to feed sharks in back of slick. Now drifting back on top of finger to 150 feet nice slick going about 1 mile in blue shark up messing with 30 ft bait and noticed on top. sent in toss bait after him hooed up right away. and reset 30 ft bait to leader just under the surface. snag the same shark twice! ther not real bright. Then he disapears and mister mako shows uo on top at the boats starboard corner. Right to the double stricke chum! I notice agin shark on top so off goes the toss bait . were on agin . Nice size to eat . SO the shark is leadered starbord side ,and tail roped .Noticed the time late ! Pulled shark on board tail rope first. And cleated off sturns port side. Slid big cooler to middel of the shark and pushed into the sturn and pined him ther. While I cut the leader at the mono so to tie the cable to the starboard cleat. He,s streached out between the cleats this way i can use the cockpit without being chased. Nice job as i pet myself on the back ,as everone on board has herd of the chases from these fish. And are rightfully weary of them.Me I want to get home be for dark. so goes the strech. And in comes the lines. over goes the dicard. Were due north/north/east to muskeyget chanel green # 1 back through a tough slot no shortcuts here as wasque roars from time to time use the chanel markers! if you go .safty first. These fish stay good to cut at the dock . And eat great. don,t take what you won,t eat. Tight lines and sharp hooks. <{{{}}}><
