Subject: striped bass

6-10-01
friday was a beautiful day along Gloucester coastal islands. The Gray Bar corporate crew fished striped bass on the tuna hunter. We started the morning with fast action boston mackerel fishing with five mackerel at a time. We soon had enough live bait for the day. After a short ride we arrived at a small island and dropped anchor. Our chum soon attracted small pollock then big bass could be seen eating our chum.It didn't take long for Fitz to hook up to a 30 inch bass with live mackerel.Steve G was in the bow fly fishing. He cought five pollock for a warm up than hooked up with a nice 29 incher for a nice battle. The guys had a fine day of fishing with 7 keepers and many releases.
This corporate charter fishing works out great. Business is done with a phone in pocket and a rod in hand.
Good fishing Capt Gary wwwtunahunter.com

Subject: Tuna Hunter Charters

Tuna Hunter is in the water running Spring Cod and Haddock charters. Cod fishing is great - Mohawk CDT had a great trip last week, filling the boat and their coolers. They all went home with sore arms
from hauling in codfish.
The ocean water is now 43deg. It is slowly warming up. We will soon start catching big spring bass.
Wishing you the best Gary

April 12 2001
The weather finally gave us a break and not the fish!Reggie and his roofing company from Chickopee Ma. fished with us Sunday. We fished on schools of med.-large cod fish on middle bank. These fish clobbered jigs and hammered a variety of different teasers. A few Slammer size Pollock were mixed in that bent the rods to there limit! This group had one of the most productive drifts ever with every angler on doubles consistently on several drops! The mate Pete and I filleted fish way past our embarking time to give these folks lot's of quality filets.

During the week a birthday trip for Prestige Painting yielded a handsome amount of premium Cod filets fishing on Stellwagon Bank. These fish were also feeding on sand eels and hammering jigs. The weather turned out to be a nice calm clear day after a foggy rough start.

In May we are running mid week Haddock specials. We will be running split groups with a per person price. Give us a call to get your name on the list!

Capt. Kev

April 16 2001
Weekend trips yielded some quality fish for the Isreal Reveria group on Saturday. These folks endured some rough weather to bring home enough filets for many great meals. Fish moved into the deeper water of the edge of the bank were some of the fish were taken on bait instead of the jig set up. Top fish of the day was a 15lb. Cod fish with many others in the close running.

Once again, mid week Haddock specials in May! We are going to run split groups. If you can get the day off from work and your friends can't give us a call and we will set you up to catch some nice sized
haddock.

Subject: Kayman Charters

April 9 2000

Well, welcome everybody! The new vessel KAYMAN TOO is at the dock and ready to fish!
Our first trip was to be today but the weather is way to dangerous with strong gales, and winds. The boats that were out last week were into good amounts of med. to large cod and wolfish in the common spring hot spot. We will try next weekend, hopefully the weather will cooperate! I worked all winter on the new boat. It is big and roomy! I installed a large head, hot and cold fresh water on the deck, microwave oven with an inverter so we can use it at sea. There is a small dinette down below to enjoy your meal. Also a propane stove, maybe some hot fish chowder would hit the spot on a cool day! We are going to try some special events this year with Tuna trips and tournaments departing from Cape Cod . We are also going to run a day for the tall ships that would be a nice family day. If you would like a new brochure or get on our mailing list just e- mail me and I would be happy to send you one.
Capt. Kev

April 18,00

We had a great group out on Saturday! The Folks from New York were into some good numbers of Cod. The action was pretty steady but there were a lot of small fish along with the larger sizes. All these fish were taken on Jig setups with different color teasers. Bait was not working at all even when we anchored down because of the fast drift. The waters of Stell wagon bank were loaded with sand eels which the cod were feeding on as well as Humpback whales and Greysided dolphins. Saturday evening we went back out to the bank with another group that got into all large fish and few small ones. They also had a nice whale show and sunset as they were reelingup the big ones! Sundays group was a no show! It was the calmest day all month! My mateand I went for a short ride to check some inshore spots to find huge schools or Herring around the ledges, but no sizeable cod were feeding on them. Monday, Back to the Bank was our plan, we got out half way and tried to fish, but the weather was to rough and we couldn’t hold bottom. Back to the barn and make it another day!
April 22 ‘ 00
Again I sit in my office writing reports instead of fishing! 30 knots of east wind and 10 ft. seas are the conditions as of 7am Sat morning. Hopefully we will get a break soon! We did get out yesterday, A great group from the north shore wanted to supply fish dinner for his company banquet of 30.They had no problem doing that! The day started
out with small fish and scrod sized keepers, then the bigger fish moved through! at one point everyone on the boat was hooked up to fish from 10-12 lbs.! The fish boxes filled quickly! Jigs with different color teasers were the terminal tackle of choice. A bright chartreuse teaser seemed to be a no miss lure for the larger sized fish. All these fish are feeding on sand eels that are plentiful and in big schools of millions. This type of bait attracts all types of fish and mammals. This area will soon be home to Mackerel, Striped bass, Blue fish, Tuna and big sharks as the migration process takes place this spring.

Have a good day,

Capt. Kev
May 1 2000

Despite the weather reports we had the best conditions all year! We fished with a great group on Saturday that had to boat over 300 fish, although a third were under size the action never stopped. There were some good bunches of 10-15 lb. Fish mixed in. Jigs with different color teasers were the ticket for the day. Sand eels spiced up the teaser rigs for quick hookups. These fish were in 100-150 ft. of water that made the action quick. Sunday the folks from Conn. that have been fishing with us for 5 years asked for some different fish than cod. They put there trust in me to explore some new areas. We took a2 hr. ride and looked around to find huge schools of monster Haddock!
We have never
seen so many big Haddock schooled up like this before. Average size was8 lbs. with fish tipping the scales over 10 lbs.! That’s some big Haddock! Bait rigs were on the menu for these fish, a special type of clams that I have found make for an irresistible offering that these fish can’t refuse. The secret location of this spot will be locked tight in the log book.

Capt. Kev

May 8 2000

The Kayman Too fished the last 4 days with a big mixed bag of fish.
Thursday we went to
our cod spot which we found devastated by commercial fishing, there were gill nets strung everywhere around some of the productive bottom and draggers scraping the bottom all around. Time to move on! We started back in a new area to find more haddock and some big ocean catfish. The next few days were spent with a little time on the hot spots that produced more big haddock only a couple hit the 10 lb. range but a nice selection of 7-8lb. haddock and some cod were to be had. This spot had to be left alone for a few days to rebuild the stock. We drifted new areas that quickly filled the fish boxes.

Sunday we went on a wreck hunt. One of the spots was dubbed the (wolfs den) 8 wolf fish were taken one after another! One of them was over 15 lbs.! This action went on with many hoots and holler from the anglers as the fish boxes filled. Also a nice catch of haddock and Cusk was to be had.
Capt. Kev
May 23 2000

After a short trip to Fla. with the family we are back to Stripers showing up in all the usual places. Mackerel have made there way in feeding on sand eels. All of this is indication that Giant Charlie Tuna is mixed in with these migrating fish! The Tuna tower will be going back on the boat after the holiday weekend!

We have signed up for a Tuna, Mahi, Marlin Shootout from Cuttyhunk in Aug. The prizes are big so give us a call if you are a gambler!
Capt. Kev
May 30 2000

Fishing over the weekend was superb! Bottom fishing was on the menu again this week with prize catches of Haddock and large Cod! Saturdays group with Lisa C. was a family trip with Mom and a the longtime friends young boy who was never deep sea fishing before, (so he said) Well he sure didn’t have any trouble bring up a pile of prize Haddocks, the group was jealous!
They went home
with enough filets to feed an entire neighbor hood! After a small huddle on the dock Lisa returned and booked two more trips! Sunday Ed Martinet of Clinton a repeat customer on the Kayman Too, brought his buddies for some Cod and Haddock action. All his buddies were hooking up one after another goofing on Ed when he hooked up to a 15 pounder and one the pool! Ed continued to bring in all large cod using live bait! All the other guy’s tried Ed’s trick but couldn’t top Ed! A nice mixed bag of Large Cod, Market Haddock and Wolf fish kept Myself and the Mate filleting for Two and a half hours!

Stripers are starting to show up and are expected to be heavy by midweek. These first arriving fish are always large (no schoolies) If you want a nice Trophy give us a call, weekdays are the best to beat the traffic and get a better bite!

The Tuna shoot out is Aug 16-20 it promises prizes over $15,000 in cash and prizes!
Tuna trips from our home will be starting soon. Give us a call!!
Capt. Kev
June 4 2000

Big Stripers and Blues are here!! The next few weeks should be outstanding for the yearly Monster Bass & Blues run!! Saturdays trip, long time customers from western Ma. enjoyed a great day of bottom fishing with a number of Haddock and large Cod tipping the scales at25 lbs. Despite the wind and the seas Dave and his group did outstanding! Large numbers of Stripers were tagged and released this weekend. The spring migration is in full swing! Giant Tuna are roaming about and more are showing up every day. Tuna trips will start soon! All the gear is being prepped for these monsters and the crew is anxious for the first hook-up!!

Capt. Kev

June 12 2000

The best light tackle game fishing in New England happened last week on the Kayman Too!! Large Striped Bass and Large Blue fish were landed one after another. For 6 hours straight there were cries of “ FISH ON!!” .We trolled 3 rods, all that we could get in the water before the first one went down, a fourth rod with a diamond jig was dropped over the side to produce 4 fish on at all times!! These striped Bass ranged from 20- 35 lbs. And the blues were all 10-15 lbs.! Two times we were almost spooled on a spinning rod these fish only left 10-15 ft. of line left on the spool before full reverse was throttled up! Congratulations to the Kim Family from San Diego Ca. that did an outstanding job battling these monsters!! Offshore Cod and Haddock remains steady over the weekend. Fine catches of fish remain on the menu with fish in the 20 lb. range winning pools. Tuna were swimming around the boat Saturday! Tuna Trips will be starting as soon as the bite picks up! Hopefully this week!
Capt.Kev
June 19 2000

A changing ocean in the last week cooled the water off 10 degrees but it has warmed almost 15 degrees as of yesterday!

Last Tuesday we went on the hunt for Charlie Tuna in the same locationhe bit of our Cod fish but they were gone! Mondays storm pushed in the cold water and they moved out. That was last Monday, yesterday the water was warm enough to bring large Basking sharks into the area along with Charlie.

This warmer water filled the area with more monster Bass! After a O.K. weekend for the big fish, yesterdays trip we couldn’t keep the lures in the water! The sightings from the tower were unbelievable! thousands of Bass swimming around the boat made for quite a site! The ground fish spot is filling in with the summer Cod. These fish are in the 20lb range and are showing up in good numbers. Many cries of “ I’m stuck on bottom” ended up to these big fish!
Capt. Kev
June 27 2000

Monster Bass and Slammer Blues continue to strip 20lb. test line of of spinning reels at lightning speed! Multiple hook ups kept client arms sore this past week with bass to 35lbs and Huge toothy Blue fish in the high teens. When the fish go down and stop feeding the special inticer rig is dropped into the depths that has been a no miss to get these monsters feeding again!

We have been offering some Cod fishing as well on these all day trips that has put some nice filets on the table. Not a huge bite the last week because of the spawning, but a few fish in the 20lb range quickly fills the fish boxes.
Capt. Kev
July 5 2000

The program has not changed since the last report. New schools of Bass and Blues seem to be arriving daily with some reel hot action. Double and triple hook ups are common when these fish start feeding. One triple hook rig brought in 3 bass totaling 73 lbs. of cow Bass! Cod fishing is picking up again with fish in the teens common. more of these fish are showing up into the shoal waters every day.

The first hooked Tuna was brought in yesterday 600lb fish was a ferocious fight for the anglers of the boat.We will be tuna fishing tomorrow wish us luck!
Capt. Kev
July 10 2000

Blue fish tipping the scales over 20lbs. almost spooled spinning gear this week! Still plenty of big Bass around as well. These fish are hitting a mix of lures trolled to different depths as conditions change during the day. The bonus Cod spot on these trips producing fish in the 20lb. range.Steaker size Cod have been hitting jigs with shrimp teasers. The Tuna bite was non existing the other day. we need more fish to show up to make more pressure on them to feed.
Capt. Kev
July 25 2000

The fishing has changed during the last 2 weeks, All the Bass and Blue schools have moved from the offshore spot. Just a few big Bass remain. We will be looking for these fish to show up close to shore soon. The offshore ground fishing trips have filled coolers with a good number of Cod and Haddocks with fish reaching the 20lb. range. Some nice Cusk and Wolf fish mixed in as well. Most of the action has been on Bait in these spots. Our inshore Cod spot has been hot when they bite on jigs only in this spot, record catch for 9 year old Lauren was a 20lb Pollock that she jigged up herself!!

Tuna were jumping and crashing bait around the boat the other day.
There are some fish
around but no big bite yet. As soon as the school tuna show up we will be mixing trips with 100lb. fish to put in the cooler!
