Today was my best day ever of sight casting for cobia on my jet ski. I caught 8 cobia today, I have caught bigger fish but never so many in a short time. Here is my report.
I departed Teaches Lair in Cape Hatteras North Carolina at 0630hrs and headed South, by the time it was over I was almost 30 miles south, off of Plymouth Island. I saw at least fifty Cobia and caught 8 keeping my first two a 39" and 43". I had a couple that were larger but I had already killed my limit. I was sight casting with a 2oz pink bucktail with a 6" white curly tail and a Shimano bait runner reel spooled with braid. I do not think I casted more than 20 times to catch 8 fish, they were hungry and not shy. I saw a lot of fish caught on boats around me and managed to get a good series of pictures from beggining to end of the "Waterman" putting a couple of nice fish in the boat as well as a couple of others. I saw a beached whale at the mouth of the inlet, a bunch of dolphins, sea turtles and a couple of hammer head sharks. I covered 72 miles in 2-4 foot seas averaging 35 mph and burned 17 gallons. Back at the dock at 1300 hrs, cleaned my catch and made it to my house in Poquoson Virginia by 1730. Another Great day on the water. Here are my pictures from today.
