Hello everyone. The season is really heating up and so is the fishing. Our charter trips out of Carolina Beach and Wrightsville Beach have been doing well and we have been catching everything from upper slot red drum, many 3 pound speckled trout, gray trout, tautog, black drum, bluefish, and sharks just to name a few. The weather has been fantastic and the fishing has been great right along with it. Inshore: The water temps have been ranging from 60 in the ICW to 66 degrees on the flats back in the bay. The red drum seem to be out of their winter pattern and are feeding heavily with the warmer water. Dead low tide on warm sunny days provides the best results. We are catching them with Gulp shrimp and jerk baits. There are many new reds coming in fresh off the ocean with sea lice attached to them and they are foraging around for food. These guys are aggressive and willing to take a hook! Dock fishing in the ICW has offered up some nice slot size redfish as well as some very nice speckled trout. These trout are large which tells me lots of them weathered the winter and we should have a banner year with the trout. Off shore: The water is in the 60 to 62 degree range from the beach out to 12 miles. We are starting to get some nice bluefish and gray trout on the near shore wrecks along with some nice tautog and black drum which are both great eating. I have seen numerous boils on the surface (in the 7 mile range) but they have been scattered out to much to find out what it is. It is either Bonito or False Albacore but again they have been too scattered to get a hook in one. Lots of birds are also working the bait. Speaking of bait, the wrecks are loaded with baitfish. As soon as the water temp rises the Spanish and kings will be in to snack on them. I can’t wait! As you can tell the fishing has been great, this time of year you just have to target what is biting and as long as the rod is bent I am happy! Be sure to check out our websites @ www.wrightsvillebeachfishing.net and www.carolinabeachfishing.net soon for some new updated videos. And if you haven’t been to our main site lately www.reel-adventure.com there are lots of videos up right now. Check them out! Hello everyone. Our fishing charters out of Wrightsville Beach, Topsail Island and Carolina Beach are doing great. Our new websites www.carolinabeachfishing.net and www.wrightsvillebeachfishing.net are having a great response with our customers and we thank you for checking them out. Our main site www.reel-adventure.com continues to grow and we have added yet another cool video “Topwater Speckled Trout Fishing” which is really cool to watch. Check it out! This season is off to a great start and we sure have had some great weather. This weekend it is going to be in the 80’s and it is reminding me of the Florida weather I was able to enjoy over the winter. We are doing well on the near shore wrecks with the Sharks, Tautog’s and other bottom dwelling species and we even caught a monster 4 lb ring tail! Inshore the redfish are biting well on Berkley Gulp! on the warmer days in the shallow water, and they are also biting well in the ICW on dead shrimp fished on a carolina rig. They key this time of year is a slow presentation and patience. The blue fish bite is starting to pick up and the Spanish should not be far behind. We are excited about what this upcoming fishing season has in store for us! We have also been busy building rods for customers and for the business as well. Each year I continue to get more and more custom with these rods and at this point the “Custom aspect” is getting hard to top. You will be amazed at our new inshore redfish and trout rods that we have mated up with Abu Garcia’s new 804 spinning reel. These reels are giving the Stradic’s and Okuma VS series reels a run for their money and after fishing hard in the Everglades all winter with the new Garcia’s I think they are better than both and are also a few dollars cheaper. We are starting to get busy with trips but still have lots of good dates open. Come enjoy the Wilmington weather and let’s catch some fish! Capt. SATURDAY 11-26-05: We have been talking lately about the "window of opportunity" well today it was opened just enough for us and one of my long time friends, Dale Foster and his wife, Ella, from Lexington,NC to squeeze through. Headed toward the horseshoe and found the water there too cold, around 63*. Moved on to the SSE until we reached water around 100 ft. and a temperature of 68 -70 degrees. Here we found a few king mackeral and a few bottomfish. The fishing would have most likely been a little better farther offshore, but, the seas were built up enough that we decided to stick it out here. We were fishing in a stiff NNE wind and a good 5 to 6 ft. sea. But you see, Dale and I go back more years than either one of us want to admit, and from years past fishing and hunting trips, I knew he was up to the task at hand!!! Ella, his wife, hangs in there right by his side!!!! I wouldn't have called it the best weather for fishing, but anytime two old fishing friends get together, you don't let the little things ruin a good day of fishing!!!! Hang in there, one day we will have a calm day to go fishing !!! Ella, I was honored to be able to put you on your first king mackeral, and it was a good sized one to start with. Now, as for Dale, we were getting ready to call it a day, that's when it happened!! A fish hit the "light line" we had out. We don't know what it was and we never will. You see, Dale fought this fish for nearly an hour, a decision was made to tighten the drag and try to get it up because for nearly an hour had passed and by now it was getting dark and soon I was not going to be able to see the line and be able to keep the boat in position to keep the fish along side, and in the type seas we were fishing in, that was a very important part of getting this fish in. Dale had the fish at boat side many times but could not get it up!!! So the drag was increased, and it looked as though we may become victorious, then yes it happened, the rod flew up and we figured the line had broken but instead, the 4x strong treble hooks were straightened out and the hooks pulled loose. We will never know what it was, but we will always know it was the biggest thing we had on the hook in a while!!! Look at it this way, it will just be bigger the next time you have the chance to go one on one with him again, and he's still out there, waiting for the next battle, and next time, he might not be as lucky as this time!!!Capt. Chris and I really enjoyed seeing y'all again!! We had a good time, it brought back some old memories, and they were good ones!!! Keep in touch and till next time, FISH ON!!! Capt. Butch Foster, Capt. Chris Foster, and "Private Bodie" the fish dog, says HI!!!!. YEAH RIGHT CHARTERS, Southport,NC. (910)845-2004. www.yeahrightcharters.com |

Wednesday, 7-6-05: Today we left out of St. James Marina with Jim Freudenberg, Jim Goodman, Mike Vignole, Joe Bukay, Jeff Cates, and Herb Hudson . We were in persuit of Mahi-Mahi and King mackeral. The weather man didn't promise us to good of a forecast. A SW wind down here more than 10 knots is not to good. 15 knots as predicted would not be good either, but we could fish it. Well as it does so many times, we had a 15 knot wind but they forgot to add the other 10 knots to it. But as you can see, we managed to pull some out. the fishing was slow everywhere. Other boats were reporting slow fishing. We found a concentration of bait and fish SW of the tower so I stuck with them for a while and managed a few fish from the mix. Just moved from spot to spot, hitting weed lines and fishing structure till we caught some fish on each place. Even dropped on one school and caught a few bottom fish before the tide went slack and they quit feeding. When things are slow, fish slow and methodically and change up patterns and tactics and you will usually find a technique that will trigger some bites. Another great day of fishing with a group of great guys!!! Thanks, Capt. Chris and I really enjoyed fishing with all of you!!! Check out pic's on my site!! Till next time, FISH ON!! Capt. Subject: Week Ending March 31, 2002
Report for the Week Ending March 31, 2002:
Inshore: Water temps have stayed in the low 60's for sometime and the fishing is improving almost daily. Masonboro inlet is pretty messed up with dirty water from dredging that may last another month. Puppy drum can be found up the creeks along with a few small flounder. Virginia mullet of good size are being caught in the waterway and Cape Fear River. Best bait: FRESH shrimp.
Nearshore: The Atlantic Bonito have arrived in good numbers and as the weather permits these fish hopefully will cooperate throughout April. Best action on trolled clarkspoons and jigging and sight casting with crippled herring spoons.
Offshore: Plenty of king mackerel in the 30 mile areas. As the water warms and the bait thickens, look for the kings to come closer and closer to shore.
Gulfstream: Lots of tuna, both yellowfin and bluefin. Good catches of wahoo and dolphin fish too. I have even heard of a marlin or two.
Tip of the Week: We have all been waiting and waiting for the fishing season to start. Make sure your equipment, including your boat and motor are as ready as you are and good fishing.
