I'm gonna be a first "timer" at fishing the Puget Sound. Every time I go up there, everybody has buckets full of fish! I mean, how do they catch that many fish??? So my Question is, What do I need to do to catch that many fish? (By the way, It was at a public fishing pier). |

I'm new to fishing the Sound and wanted some insight into bottom fishing, possibly for flats and anything else I could potentially pick up. There seems to be plenty of Salmon info but nothing for other species. I'll be up around Edmonds/Everett mostly. Locations, gear/bait suggestions welcome. Thanks, Chris |

I am in the Auburn, WA area and I have a 19' Boat. My father is coming into town from West Virginia and I wanted to get him on the water for some salmon fishing. Where is a hot spot that I could take him to be pretty sure he can get one of these magnificent fish? Also, some hints on lures or bait would be appreciated. |

Subject: Sockeye Fever !
Ahh ! What a great 4th of July ! Banner day all the way around.
Fished aboard infamous Nyle Miyamoto's 15' skiff. The plan was to launch early and limit out by 10:00 . The day began launching at 4:00 a.m. I did not sleep a wink the whole night due to the built up frenzy over fishing for sockeye for the first time. Started trolling from 35'-50' early and We get our first bump. Boom a little 3.5 pounder on into the boat and first blood ! All the while steering thru the armada . No tangles on this boat !!! My 2nd fish was a bit bigger and fought pretty hard ripping line out at 10 yard clips and doing a couple leaps then into my downrigger cable - double wrapped. After diligently un- wrapping my line I play the fish into the net where the hook pops out and the fish splashes into the net. Great catch by Captain Nyle !!!
Nyle hooks his first fish which looked like an immature Sockeye or a big rainbow. But Nyle not satisfied with minnow throws it back and then hooks a monster ! The fish puts on a weak fight but once it gets close to the boat it does the Sockeye Frenzy twist . Then under the boat and pop goes the hook !!! AAAAAAAAAArgh !!! A solid 10 pounder what a beautful green tint these glorious fish have. All around us there were nets waving and rods a crankin !
Then the doldrums set in beside an occasional bump on my rod. I really thought Nyle was gonna slice his wrist then his stick got hot after switching to one of my dodgers. Fish-On ! and NYle after a brief fight gets a 4 pounder in. Life is good for Nyle again now down to one more fish to get home for breakfast. Nyle notices his line is flat and thinks he is tangled with another guy and realizes he has a fish on . A real sleeper at first than it see us and it goes on balistic line peeling rampage jumping 6 times each time slamming it's thick body on the water. By this time I was fit to be tied yelling and screaming !!! Nyle said his prayers and I netted his BIg 8 pound Buck !!! A victory lap and back home !
This was the best opener I have ever experienced and probably why I will stick around the great northwest !!
Gang go get 'em plenty of fish just keep a cool head and everybody will have a good time !!! No brainer - 10-22" 30 lb leader leader with 3/0 Black Gamie , Black Hooks , Find the fish (hint 70') by bridges. Troll slow ! Even slower ! See you out there ! I am the guy yelling ........ Fish-On !
