Michelle-- Had to laugh about the dumpster thing--is this the all time low? I am still thinking a boat ride Sunday just for grins. It's hard to have a brand-spankin new boat in the driveway sitting there while the weather is nice. Geez I miss '97 and '98--epics. I spoke with Matt yesterday--he was maybe gonna get s'more bait last night? I'll call him again today. And...exactly where is the power plant outfall? All Ive heard is "North side of the rock". Congratulations Stacy and good luck on your trip to Mexico. My single best day of fishing ever was out of Navidad. 50 pound dorado and 100 pound YFT !! We had to stop because the Panga was sinking due to an overload of blood and fish! Went bugging at Anacapa yesterday and from what we saw and heard there is a big shortage of bugs so far this year. We got 6 (diving) but there were very few ..short or legal anywhere. The crossing yesterday was sloppy both ways and it's a good thing we didn't go today because the Anacapa wind gage registered gust as high as 48 kts. These Santa Ana conditions can be tricky ! |

Sorry about the late report gang: Better late then never right? Trailered my rig all the way from Ojai to fish the frontside of Catalina on 11/17 with live squid from Nachos. Scored 6 yellows averaging 15-lbs plus 3 white sea bass. Only kept 2 fish up to 18-lbs for the grill and released the rest. Gotta love the Fall, some of the nicest days on the water the entire year. Thanks. 25 Skip, Legacy |

Ray, and Steve: Here's the scoop on what me and Nick were talking about. Someone from Virg's saw some "albacore" heads in the launch ramp dumpster. I think the trash company dumps it on Friday. They were seen on Saturday. The rumor was there were three boats at 15 miles that caught them. Since it was super rough that day, I'm pretty skeptical. Temptation had just come in with fish, so maybe someone bought some and cleaned them down there. Also there is no bait. If Matt gets some bait while the weather is good, I will go, but time is running out! |

Hey Steve, Thresher's make a showing each year, have seen them clearing water during Salmon season. I would target them around the coke plant area trolling Bait O'Matic's. Blue Sharks were prevelant for years but seems that their numbers have been down the last few years. This year 55 miles from Morro we had friends raise 2 Makos while drifting for Albacore... Some decent Mako fishing on the footprint down around the channel islands as well. Not my thing, so not much info but its a start. Dustin |

Stacey: Congrats on getting her to agree to spend her life with you!! Hope you have a great time down south. You should find Marlin & Sails in that area. Also possibly some YFT's. I have some marlin/sail/tuna/etc trolling lures from when we were making them at our shop in Cabo. Stop by and I'll let you borrow a few. I'll check with my Bud distributor re: charter fishing trip! Who knows, might be surprised. ------------------ I'm still hoping someone will respond to my question on shark fishing in our area. Steve www.BajaFishing.Org |

Stacey ... I just got back from Zihuatanejo and Ixtapa a few days ago. Fishing is just not starting to pick up ... Blue water has pushed in and Sails, Darado and Blue Marlin all are had within 10 miles of the beach. I only fished Roosters and Jacks inshore with no luck on the Roosters once again ... but fishing should be picking up in the next week or two. Good luck and congrats on the engagment. By they way...... You dont want any of me and Uncle Dale! Living Legand that guy is... dont make many like him. |

steve hindrix, I'll be heading up to Hollister/San Juan Bautista sat afternoon to fish Moss on Sun for my other favorite bar, Daisy's Saloon on a bud light sponsored cattle boat. There will be reps from 6 other bars in the Hollister area for a friendly competition, should be lots of fun. I can't resist free fishing and beer! Shoot me a call if your'e in the area. Barstow, You own my other favorite bar, ya think the local distributor down here would go for something similar when season opens? We'd have some stiff competition from Dustin & Uncle Dale at the Pine street! Kim said Yes! I managed to combine many of her favorite things into the proposal, it went well. We'll be heading down to Melaque (near manzanillo and barra de navidad) on the pacific coast of central mexico the day after Thanksgiving to fish for the week. Yes, she fishes. I'll be putting a tackle box together for the trip shortly, I plan to fish from both boat and shore. Any gear, color or lure recommendations would be appreciated. |

Dustin; Yea I may go back to the old spot and give it a try, that pico creek is a great area I probaly just hit it on the wrong day, some of the guys in our fishing club have caught some nice fish there. I dont know about that new boat, the way the dept of fun and games is going i, wait there may be some real good deals out there on some nice boats, our new boat is just collecting dust right now , the old one could have done that, I think there are going to be some serious restrictions on the Salt water fisherman as soon as the MLPA get there stuff together. May see you Sunday. Blackie/Sr |

Mike, I may be over at 6th street fishing the incoming on Sunday if I can get away from yard work. Few weeks ago pulled a few slabs out of the same area as well as a Sandshark that pulled me up and down the beach for a half hour. Good fun .... Need to sell my boat and soon, new one on the way. thanks chris, i guess i felt some tension... all is good here I fished the kalamith river a couple of years ago and saw the gill netting going on and was surprised that that was allowed but after thinking about it and learning what was really going on i got over it thay werent wasting any fish and not over fishing. in fact they should have caught more... that was the year that the river was down and there was a huge fise kill that year. enough of that. best to all, Bob |

BOB MAY, My post was in regards to the previous one below. And then it was directed at Natives. Its really not a big deal to me I just wanted to put in what I saw. Posted on Sunday, November 13, 2005 - 3:39 pm: ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------- Are any of you guys aware of the carnage that takes place up north? I'm talking about the gil netting of salmon. Salmon are being caught in gil nets strung across major rivers and then the females are gutted for the eggs. All the salmon are discarded, male and female. The eggs are sold to buyers over seas. Mainly Japan. I was in shock when I saw the pictures. We do all we can to preserve and protect the salmon, while others waste them like this. The pictures show 100's of discarded salmon, both on land and in the water. If I new how to post them I would. Could it be that this is legal because most of these salmon would die anyway? Am I off base again? Anyone know what the skinny is? John |

OK, was it a joke or were there really some tuna in the dumpster caught out of Morro? One time I saw some exotics that some guys had froze and brought home to clean there. Nothing rings my fishing bell like the tuna call. However, I also know that we can write anything we want on the internet, and once in a while have a little fun with it. |

I lived in Portland for two years while I went to school. Natives are allowed to have gill nets on the Columbia River. They also have platforms set up in many of the tributaries to the Columbia where they stand on top and use hoop tangle nets with long poles, which they pull 40+ pound Chinook out. During my stay I had only seen one case where a fish or two went to waste and it was ONLY A FEW fish. Tribal councils regulate fishing and on the actions of their tribe members. Roe is very important and there is a HUGE market for it. In fact Bonneville dam, the first one of many on the Columbia River, has thousands of fish that return “hatchery fish” each year “most of the time.” Once egg quotas are met for the hatchery, the extra fish that are left over are sold to buyers. There are several buyers for roe and the carcasses. The carcasses are then processed for dog and cat food or taken to prisons around the state where they feed inmates. In conclusion it is disappointing to hear some people talk about Native gill nets and how they waste the fish "NOT SAYING IT DOESNT HAPPEN." I have seen many fish kills and neglect not at all related to Natives. But the one thing I do not understand is why Natives are allowed to keep BOTH native fish “of non hatchery origin” and hatchery fish “adipose fin clipped” when the rest of have to release unclipped fish “on the Columbia River.” Sorry it’s so long |

Boys, don't forget rockcod is still open down here at the Channel Islands...although lings are closed at midnight the last day of November. This is a perfect week to hit it, as the offshore flow and warm temps make for really nice outer island excursions...trips to Cruz/Rosa/ Miguel should not be a problem right through Sunday. Remember, don't count on live bait at Santa Barbara, ever. The reds and chuckles and lings like the frozen squiddlies just fine. If you do want live stuff you can use sabiki rigs right outside the harbor for the macs, etc. You will see me out there this weekend for sure. Dave My Three Sons |

Sissy, If you look at those big piles of fish on the banks and in the water, you will see that they look old and crusty looking. Those are just spawned out salmon in some spawning tributary. I did spawning counts for a few years and it is one of the most disgusting jobs ever. In productive streams (there are a few left in Oregon and Washington) there would be hundreds of spawned out salmon on the banks and in the water. I won't tell you about Alaska were there were thousands on the banks....maggots everywhere and not such a fresh smell! Anyhow, from what I can see, there is no waste going on there. It is confusing that the gillnetting pictures are grouped together with the spawned-out pictures because they have nothing to do with each other. Dead salmon are critical to Pacific Northwest Ecosystems...basically bringing the productivity of the ocean to unproductive creeks and rivers. The young salmon and steelhead depend upon their dead ancestors to jump start the food chain. Hope that clears things up. later, steve |

There is actually a gill net fishery on the Columbia. It is highly regulated and only open for small stretches in the spring/summer/fall. This is not a Native American Fishery. Native Americans do gill net on the Klamath/Trinity Rivers, but they do not waste the salmon. Not sure what instance you are talking about, but I guarantee that it is not the Native Americans that are wasting the fish. Do you know where this was located? |

Just got home last night from a 10 day on the Red Rooster III. What an epic trip, I caught two cow YFT 247# & 231# and three smaller fish that weighed 130-180#. The largest YFT I have caught before this trip was a little over a 100#er. The boat had one 306#, thirty five over 200#'s and seventy six that were 100-199#'s. The weather was fantastic with flat greasy water on the lower ridge all four days we fished for cows. The only bad weather we encountered was the last night as we headed home. As Andy Cates (Capt of the Bird)said this was a trip of a life time, I keep pinching myself to see if I am dreaming........Wayne |

The husband had just finished reading the book, "MAN OF THE HOUSE." He stormed into the kitchen and walked directly up to his wife. Pointing a finger in her face he said, "From now on, I want you to know that I am the man of this house and my word is law! I want you to prepare me a gourmet meal tonight, and when I'm finished eating my meal, I expect a sumptuous dessert afterward. Then after dinner, you are going to draw me my bath so I can relax. And when I'm finished with my bath, guess who's going to dress me and comb my hair?" His wife replied, "The funeral director would be my guess." -- -- No virus found in this outgoing message. I just got home from work (pulling a shift at my bar in Paso). Butler and myself were talking about SHARK fishing and neither one of us had any experience in this area. We both came to the conclusion that we should hit this site and ask you guys for your input. But it seem that Stacey beat us to it! I have been shark fishing in So Cal and also have experience in the dating scene. Not much difference! Just kidding Stacey - I'm sure that you and your intended don't bear any resemblance to my analogy. She is a delightful girl and I'm sure that I join all else here in wishing the best for the both of you. Back to the shark fishing, any suggestions or tips? Would really appreciate it. Thanks, Steve |

Stacey, when I proposed to my wife, I made it clear that I would always have a boat. However I failed to mention that I would want to use that boat.... MAKE IT CLEAR THAT SHE WILL BE A SALMON/TUNA WIDDOW. It will save a lot fighting when the honeymoon is over. Also, if you have slept with her sister, cousin or best friend, either keep it a secret (for ever) or come clean....this will also save a few fights..... good luck |

Stacy, Way to go, make sure you put this one in the boat! Best advice I have is don't take her fishing for your honeymoon unless it is her idea! Best wishes. |

Hey Guys, As there is not anything fishing-wise to discuss on the site, I thought I would seek advice from 20 friends and 1000 strangers that read this site: I've been working on having an engagement ring made for my girlfriend and just received the final product today, It's beautiful. I'm going to propose tommorow. Any Ideas? |

Hi guys, I have had nothing to say for the last couple of months. The fishing lately sucks, but that’s understood considering all the fishing regs. Salmon fishing was OK, especially when we went to Moss Landing. LFT was weird , several of you locals, and you know who who you are, Tried real hard to locate them, and did OK. I guess what Im talking about is I read firshreports.com almost every day, I have a little 20 ft Seaswirl ,that’s ready to go fishing, for salmon or LFT . I know where the bottom fishing is. But that’s secondary Just to replace all this frustration, we put this small trip together. We are going to Anderson , Ca. and fish the Sacramento River. I will post results. |

steve, the party boats go outside monterey bay and go south to the shore lines right next to pebble beach, just use your fish finder and scope the rock ledges and you will spot the peaks and ledges, you will get all the blues and yellows you want. DO NOT fish in the bay as some areas are protected by the monterey marine sancturary. hope this helps, DEN tincancaptin |

Steve: Call; Todd at Bayside Marine about the places to rockfish. A friend of mine just got certified and his boat set up to launch at Gaviota and a friend of his is the operator at the pier. I will see if I can get his number for you then you can get the requirements and probably sources from him. |

Couple of questions: How is the rockfishing around Moss Landing? Heading up to the aquarium next weekend for a field trip and was thinking about bringing the boat. Would someone be willing to share some numbers? Email me at fishmstr00@aol.com Also, does anyone know where to get a certified sling for Gaviota? I made my own (12,000# spectra rope), but since it is not certified, they won't let me use it! Can I get something like that certified somewhere? Thanks, Steve |

Drew; Silverstreak Boats is located in Sooke, British Columbia, Canada. Sooke is a small town on Vancouver Island a few miles north and west of downtown Victoria. Easy to get to, beautiful area, and you can FISH there too! They have a web site. Just type in Silver Streat Boats and it'll come right up. I saw that boat you were talking about at Morro Bay RV and like you, I thought it was quite impressive. Good luck. Steve |

Another short thought Drew. When I was really in the search, allot of the input came from Canada. If I was willing to go up and take possessing at the boarder, I would have saved tens of thousands. Because of the exchange rate then. I'm not sure what the deal is presently. Silver Streak may be a Canadian boat. They'll steer you straight. John |

Drew, I looked into the Silver Streaks and other fine quality aluminum boats a few times. They were too much money for me. I even looked into bulding one myself, since I have the shop, and am a welder. You can buy the kits all computer cut and ready to jig up and weld, weld weld. The kits are awesome also. Work and other things got in the way, so it never happened. These type of boats are all over up north. I just settled for a lesser boat. Figured I was running out of time. John |

Sissy I gave them a call and they told me that the builder was a company called silver streak. The shop even agreed it is an awsome boat. I am looking into having one built. |

Drew, Just a note that the beautiful aluminum boat that was at MB rv is now gone. I finally went over to gaze at her and she was gone. The store was closed so I couldn't ask about her. John |
