Hi Thomas, You can catch different fish from the beach . Bream, Barracuda, Queen Fish,Grouper, Emperor Snappers etc to name a few. If you rig a Bally hoo (Half beak) chances are you might hook a big king fish or Cobia. For other fish use cut mackrel or Squid which you can buy from the local markets. For your serious fishing you can ask your hotel who generally run a charter service or lacth on to some of our local friends you could locate on the site. Jeen, Tight Lines. |

Greetings everyone. I am glad to have found this forum. I am coming to Dubai for Christmas Vacation and would like to ask for some advice: 1. I need to find a guide to do a few half day trips of simple inshore/light tackle fishing with my daughters. (They are enthusiastic, but still quite young and donīt have the patience for trolling or offshore) I have had great times with them in Florida just fishing canals, flats, etc. Any advice on spots that are good for kids will also be appreciated. 2. Once I get the wife situated and the little ones entertained I would like to turn my attention to some serious fishing. As I am the only serious angler in my family, I am open to sharing charters, or going out with anyone that knows where the fish are. Of course I will contribute in any way I can. 3. I will most likely be staying on the beach in Jumeira (sp?) Does anyone know if fishing is permited from the beach and what might be caught close to shore? I thank everyone in advance. Sincerely, Thomas |

Hi Kevin, No fly shops out here at the moment so you'll have to bring everything yourself. Spare lines a must. I have a limited supply of flies but we can always talk bussiness, I have a fellow South African out here that might also have some spare. AJ |

ALL Fly Fishers in the UAE Hi guys and girls, I had the great opportunity to fish two morning sesions with Martin James while he was here in the UAE. We got talking about Fly Fishing around this area and I realised that with all the things we have around here Malls, Golf course, Beach clubs and all sorts of other clubs, there is one thing or maybe two things I have not yet come across. This namely a Fly Fishing club or a Fly Tying association. If there is something like that please let me know, if not, please let me know if you'll be interested in us starting up something in the UAE. AJ |

Hi Kevin, Hope you have a good trip out here. You must really try and get around to the East coast, Fujairah and the Meridian they will arrange for the charter with Wayne de Jager, bring some white and pink clousers size 1/0 to 3/0 they work rather well. Tight Loops AJ |

HI Duncan, I think you would be helped by the Meridian AL Aqua, Wayne or Roger the guides in Fujairah will put you into the fish, I would suggest to rather bring something heavier than the 9wt. The Dorado ( Dolphinfish ) are a good test, even on a 10wt and there are some serious Tuna around and even a 10wt is not enough. Weighted clousers no 1/0 to 5/0 and baitfish profiles work well. Bring sinking and intermediate lines. If conditions are right you could also get to cast some poppers to the Dorado's ! Tight Loops |

Hi Martin. Your post on the site made interesting reading. At the outset I appriciate your intiative and emphasis on catch and release which most of us practice and ofcourse more of us should take up . Yes I am also into fly fishing a beginer at that and would love to come over and take some lessons . PLease do let us know through the site when the lessons start. On the subject of Cameras and photographs I am of opininion that any sport survives as a sport strongly on a platform/ foundation of peer recogonition. No body would like to break a 100 M Sprint record on a deserted Island. You need spectators. In life generally speaking people need recogonition , sence of achievement , land marks, bench marks, etc. This is where the camera and the records come in . However the emphasis I agree should be on catch and release whatever is over and above your table requirements and yes please take a snap before the release so that it can be posted on the site and make this site more colourful and interactieve. Tight Lines, Jeen |

Hi everyone Dave Holley put gave me the information on this site which I find most interesting. I have been fishing the UAE for around 15 years, both from the shore and boat fishing. mostly fly fishing. Though I do occasionally use plugs and spinners if the wind is a hooligan. Over the past couple of weeks I have taken a lot of dorado, tuna, trevalley and albacore, which I believe you call Bonita. I would like to suggest we all think seriously before we kill a fish, nothing wrong in harvesting one fish for the table, and let's be honest we are sportsfishers not fish mongers. We need less dead fish on the site. Most of us carry a camera so lets show pictures of fish being returned. We must not forget its the big ones that need to be released they are the better gene pool. If we are to make sure the kids of tomorrow are going to enjoy this great sport we need to look after the ocean. Anyone interested in fly fishing there will be a new sportsfishing boat launched in Fujairah in the new year which will cater for the fly fisher. They are a Thomas and Thomas recognised guide. The Meridien Al Aqah beach resort in Fujairah will be hosting some fly fishing schools in the new year for further detailsTel Kiran Kumar 050 484 0261 or e-mail kiran.kumar@lemeridien-alaqah.com Kind regards to everyone Martin James |

Jeen, It was a flashy yellow & green number. Fujairah is great as you don't have to go far to fish. For Dorado just find a large moored oil tanker and there will be dorado there. We trolled some ballyhoos and got hits almost every time. The Dorado will follow a hooked dorado. Its a matter of experimenting. We only spent an hour fly fishing as we were intent on trolling for sails. We also caught bonito by trailing the fly behind the boat. For the bigger fish you need to have quite a fast sinking line. once you hook a fish its good to keep it on the line and cast to the other fish following it in. My boat is under repair at the moment but I would like to get out there again soon. If you have a boat and fancy a trip let me know when and i'll be there. its very addictive. Has anyone seen any sailfish?? tight lines |

Hi Guys. Well, I went fishing the other day and loved it. Have decided to take it up. Went to some of the fishing equipment shops and they weren't too helpful. I did end up buying a basic fishing setup for some shore fishing. I just would like to get some info and advice from all you guys. 1) What are the best places to fish? (I have seen people on the beaches in Sharjah and Ajman and on the Dubai Creek). 2) What kind of bait should I use? 3) What fish could I expect to catch? 4) What size hooks should I use? and should I let the bait the sink to the bottom or attach a float to it? Would really appreciate any help. Plan to go out tomorrow and the following week. Thanks guys. - David |

Hi Abdallah, That fish is a relative of the Stone fish Family, although its not deadly, the spines on the back of the head are poisonous and will result in swelling and extreme pain, so be careful when handling them, they are very common in the uae, and as a diver I have to brief other divers on my boat not to touch them. I used to fish in the creek and catch them all the time, a right nuisance fish. How big was it? Cheers Mike |

Hi Abdallaha, This is a frog mouth. Its a ambush fish that hides among the rocks to surprise small fish. Generally not eaten . However in the sub continent people do eat this fish claiming it to be a sure shot cure for Asthama, and such respiratotory allergies. Tight lines & Sreaming reels Jeen |

Gidday all, Just moved here from sunny England. Having serious withdrawl syptoms from getting the line wet and of course the tour operaters range from 2500 to 3000 for the game boats, and with it being too early for the sails, doesn't make much sense to go all out troplling for 8 hours for little if no action at all! Used to regularly fly and boat fish in the UK, spin for bass etc and so wandered if anyone knew the people to contact for some lighter tackle game fishing for Kingies / Cobia / Tuna and Durado? All help appreciated! All the best Matt 050 4585823 |

Hi Guys, I have a boat down in Umm Al Quwain and have been fishing here for 20 years. UAQ normally has good fishing at the beginning of the season with sails coming in earlier than dxb. Went out two weeks ago - plenty of small kings near channel markers. Spent a day out this friday and checked all old marks, no birds or bait fish. Plenty of Queenies in the fish market. Anybody had any luck, is RAK any good at the moment?? Kings taking Storm deep thunder (blue). Tight lines |

Hi Fellas, Troy is right . Why the big silence ? Well been to Musandam this week end along with Shawn to Mike's place " Dive Manta" . THe place has great pottential . Whats exciting about this place is the variety of fish . Did not carry the equipment for big game trolling hence did a bit of bottom fishing and hooked a few decent sized sheris, reef cod, red snapper. THe activity on the surface was mind blowing with Tunas literally taking off from the water chasing bait fish. Mike is a cool guy and we wish him the best in his venture. He basically runs a dive centre and has just started to cater to anglers. He needs a lot of support and inputs from guys like us to take this to its full potential. Also suggest close coordination with Mike before you land up there and tell him what you would need by way of bait, time of trip ect. Carry your own Equip. This place could become a favourite destination for anglers from this region. Mike's No: 050-7408266 Tight Lines & sreaming reels, Jeen |

hey guys, Got a trip for saturday 22nd, anybody got the saturday off? if so, people can stay at the accomadation for free. Saturday, will be 350 dhs per person, staying at sea from 8am till 2pm, need 4 people to make trip worth my while. Friday night will be bbq at my villa, accomadation supplied. Please book on this trip, I need a total of 1000dhs, to make the ministery aprove my licence, when my licence is aproved I can reduce my prices. Please support me on this, the ministery is giving me problems, if I can prove I make 1000 dirhams, I will get the licence the next day, I will even put money in from myself to get this sorted, you know how the uae works, I am also wanting offers to take over 25% of the company, every idea I have costs money that I cannot afford, I am a diver (which is costing me a fortune in buying equipment), I need a partner that will support the fishing, I have the trade licence and all the official documents, all I need is a boat just for fishing, registration will be done by us, your boat will be registered in oman as well as uae. If anybody is interested in either buying out 25% out of everything, or just doing the fishing, which we can organise special registration for your boat to have Oman licencee in the water begining of november. Please contact me at: info@divemanta.com 25% of the, aswell as Uae, at the moment I am renting a boat (until our boat is finished from the factory), our boat will b company will only be around 20,000 Dirhams, and at the end of 2006 I will hand over 100% to the buyer, as I will be planning on leaving the country, I will need to go to the UK to get married and will therefore leave the country and by the courts will pass on my percentage to the 25% buyer. Until then I will be marketing and promoting Manta Dive Centre throughout the net, including tour operators in the UK, USA, RUSSIA, GERMANY, and local tour operators. I will promote this operation till my dying day, which is my dream, and Manta Dive Centre will be the biggest operation in the middle east if I have my way, I am running out of money and my sponsor is a really good guy, so anybody interested in a partnership deal that will not fail, please contact me at: info@divemanta.com or phone me on: +971 50 7408266 I am sad to put this mesage on, but I want to do so much in this wonderful country that I dont want my ideas to be not recognised, there is so much to do but I cannot afford it myself, the sea here is excellent, I have been diving and fishing here for the last 8 years and I know that where my office is, not on the dubai coast, but on the east coast, the indian ocean, is rich in marine life, fishing is excellent, tuna, hamour, barracuda, shark and kingfish is caught in nearly every trip, if somebody wants to take over from me, plese email me and we can meet and discuss the situation. Lots of money in this business, nobody has yet to operate fishing charters in this area, and there is alot of business to be done here. Give me a call on 050 740 8266. or email me on: info@divemanta.com Happy Fishing Mike Ralph |

Most of the guys who have been catering to us are either tied up with high end hotels which incidentally do not necessarily attract a lot of anglers, or operate indipendantly, charging exorbitantly. I feel you should describe the boat and post a few pictures on the site. Also would suggest checking out the rates for advertisement on this site. Jeen, Tigt Lines & sreaming Reels |

It is good to finally find a fishing report site that is updated regularly. I live and fish in Ras Al Khaimah, where I mostly trawl for inshore gamefish. The water here is currently a little warm but reports of a few smaller kingfish are trickling in. In May I am going to open a charter company based in RAK, targeting the inshore gamefish. I am currently doing my pricing and was wondering how many people would be prepared to pay 200-250 Dhs each for a 6 hour trip, and minimum of three customers per trip. You would get to keep all your fish. The price includes tackle, bait etc although you would be welcome to use your own if you so chose. Feed back with tips and suggestions would be greatly appreciated. |

Hi Guys, I have just opened a company up in Dibba, Musandam. We are mostly a scuba diving company, but are offering deep sea fishing trips too. The fish life up here is amazing, tuna, kingfish, barracuda, trevally, cobia and hamour are always being caught. We offer both bottom fishing as well as offshore trolling for the big boys. And only 90 minutes drive from dubai makes for an excellent weekend away, accomodation in the guesthouse on the beach is available too at 100dhs per night. Please reply via this thread for more information. Hope to hear from you soon Happy Fishing Mike Ralph Manta Dive Centre Musandam www.divemanta.com - (still under construction) |

Hi Pals, Good to see a picture posted by Heber. Thats a decent sized cobia. This is great news and quite reassuring to know that fish are feeding near the shore inspite of so much of construction activity around that area. Lets make this site more interesting so comon guys and lets have some more pictures of this years action in our waters. |
