2nd year fishing with Mike by Joseph Boccelli, Joselitao Lopez and Dante Vargas. The reason why I returned to Mike's Marina is that I really get to enjoy myself. I don't have to worry about anything. I don't have to worry about getting to my hotel from the airport. The hotel accomodations are really nice and the people are friendly. The location is pretty. I had fun hanging out at the bar where I met new people. The fishing was a blast. Besides the fishing drinks and snacks were provided. As I said, I didn't have to worry about anything. All I had to do was relax and have a great time. And Mike is a really great guy! Joe Boccelli/Phili JBoccelli@AOL.com |

for the 2007 season i don't write the reports myself, i let my fishing buddies write a review about their fishing experience with me. below i copied some of the Jan - July 2007 reviews about sportfishing offshore Punta Cana/Dominican Republic. full reports and all pictures can be found on www.MikesMarina.info/FishingReports2007.html and www.Flyfishing-Punta-Cana.com tight lines to all Mike -------------------------------------- Mike's Marina Fishing Charters Jared ~ Alberta, Canada July 2007 My wife and I just wanted to report back on our experience we had fishing with Mike’s Marina. The pressure to go fishing with other companies is great. Everyone wants you to go fishing with them and they will lower their rates to make it very tempting. However, we took the advice from Pete’s web site “Punta Cana Information Guide” to only go with Mike’s Marina even if they hold to a higher price. We are so glad we did. While the other fishing companies may take you for a fun trip out into the ocean, Mike’s Marina employ dedicated fishermen who want to catch a fish just a much as you do. We were there to catch fish and with Mike’s you get what you pay for. If we wanted a fun tour of the ocean we would have booked the sunset cruise with the Hotel. We are proud to say that Mike’s did what they setout to do. We caught in just a 4 hour trip: a dorado and a huge blue marlin (192” and 180Lbs). The experience was one we will never forget and made our first trip to the Dominican absolutely legendary. My sincere thanks to the crew aboard the Shekinah (Manuel and Catch) as well as everyone at Mikes Marina that where so accommodating, helpful and professional. We will go with Mike’s the next time we go back to Punta Cana and know that we will have a wonderful experience as a result. Just a tip to a the skeptics: If you’re still not sure which fishing company to go with just spend a few days on the beach, as I did, watching the fishing boats come in. When a fishing boat catches a fish the crew will proudly put a small color-coded flag up to indicate what and how many fish were caught on that particular trip. You’ll notice a trend as I did. Mikes ships are pretty much the only ones with flags coming in to the marina with very few exceptions. The hotel bookings never reported success during my two week stay. I had a great time and was very impressed with the all of the services that Mike provided. Mike took care of every little detail from picking up and dropping off at the airport, letting me use his computer for emailing at his office, picking me up and dropping me off for fishing, taking great pictures and emailing them too me after the trip, and making himself available to make my experience as enjoyable as possible. The fishing was great also! I had a blast fishing with Mike, Captain Manuel, and mate Catch. They were all friendly, accommodating, very knowledgeable, and professional. I think they were more excited than me (which I didn't think was possible), when I caught my first ever marlin. I can't wait to come back! Dieter dieter@jrcc.net ----------------------------- Mike's Marina Fishing Charters John June 2007 My son and I recently took a trip along with his friend and his father to punta cana specifically to charter a boat for a fishing trip. After reviewing numerous charter options I chose Mike from Mike's Marina to service us for three days of fishing for white and blue marlin. Mike assured me that he would take care of transportation to and from airport/hotel and to the charter boat. From the moment we arrived off the plane Mike and his driver Richard were there awaiting our arrival. Without hesitation we loaded our bags and were off on a safe ride to our resort. Not once were we dissapointed with the transportation, his drivers were always on time from the beginning to the end of our trip in Punta Cana. We charted one of Mike's 42 foot boats for three days with the same captain and first mate throughout. Like all of Mike's workers they were very friendly and accomodating, speaking English to us and making sure that we were comfortable. Within three beautiful days on Mike's boat we caught Blue Marlin, White Marlin, and Mahi Mahi. All four of us were totally satisfied with Mike's service. We are now planning another trip to Punta Cana to again fish with Mike's Marina in a Blue Marlin Fishing Tournement in August. I would recommend Mike's Marina to anyone looking to go fishing in Punta Cana. Whether you are looking to take just a days trip out on one of the boats or planning your trip around fishing, Mike's Marina is your best bet. Not only did he provide us with an outstanding and successful fishing experience but he was even there to show us around beautiful Punta Cana after hours. John Goodrich OOGoodie@aol.com -------------------------------------- Dear Mike, I just wanted to send you a note of thanks for the wonderful time my husband and I had on a split charter last week while we were in the Dominican. I am attaching a photo of the white marlin that was caught, my husband Ben reeled him in. Thanks for the great trip! Our captain and first mate were gracious hosts. Karen Cobb NC, USA Life is 10% what happens to you, and 90% of what you make of it.... ------------------------------------------ Mike's Marina Fishing Charters Leo June 2007 Just wanted to drop you a line to let you know what a great time we had on our full day charter on Mike's boat "Intrepido". I fish quite extensively from New Jersey (USA) to Maine. Recently I had a charter in Hawaii. Our 5/20/07 trip with Mike's guys was by far the most enjoyable day on the water I've ever had! The fishing was great, the crew was great, we even had a bonus watching several whales off and on! The four of us caught 15 nice Dorado, a Wahoo, and had a Blue Marlin check out our spread but he wouldn't eat. We plan on visiting the Dominican again in 2009, and I can't wait to book a day with Mike! First, the hotel which I stayed at was very nice and had a lot of activities. Next, I was also impressed with the crew ( Manuel and Catch'em ). Those men made me feel very comfortable and gave me an impression of professionalism in their craft. Finally, I felt that you had a natural concern for my well being in the Dominican Republic. I appreciated that you picked me up and delivered me to any destination including the Air Port. This attention to details made my trip there a wonderful time. As a Sports fisherman and traveler of the world, I feel this trip was one of the better fishing experiences I've taken and would have no problems in coming back to fish with you in the Dominican Republic. Your Friend Mark Wesseler -------------------------------- Billfish on the Fly Hey Mike, Jason and I had a blast fishing aboard the Shekinah with Manuel and Catch! Looking forward to coming back to the D.R. and fishing with you in the future! May 5: Both of us hungover and tired so we decided to "take it easy" the first day of fishing due to wind and sea conditions. We boated 2 dolphin fish and 2 albacore in the first 4 hours. We raised 2 white marlin and hooked 1 on a "skipped" ballyhoo! Jason was able to subdue and land the 80lb white in under 20 minutes with a "quick release" completed boatside by mate Catch! Fished for several more hours before calling it due to wind/seas. May 6: With absolute ideal sea conditions we decided to target white marlin with flyfishing tackle. Ran "hookless" teasers of skirted ballyhoo on both flat lines, a daisy chain of squid on center line and pulled the fender teaser off left transom. Raised 4 white marlin throughout the day and Catch successfully "teased" one close enough for a "bait and switch" with a Cam Sigler Parrot fly. Fish peeled off close to 400 yards of fly backing with initial run and only jumped once! Made a total of 3 runs, but mostly stayed down about 50 feet and sulked. With constant pressure and retrieve it took me about 30 minutes to get the 100lb fish boatside for another "quick release" by mate Catch! Many thanks to Mike, Manuel and Catch and the entire support staff of Mike's Marina for a memorable experience aboard the Shekinah! Best wishes, Andrew --------------------------------- Hi Mike. Here comes a report from my vacation in DR (Cabarete). DR is a wonderful country, And the people is very friendly. Well when its come to flyfishing, I get some problem as you said. All the oprators offert me deep-see fishing, And nobody had knowledge about flyfishing. I start my own expedition ha, ha, ha. Abaout 3 km. down the beach was i finding a reef, And i meeting a local fisherman. He sat there and fixing his nets who was ragged. He told me that it was som fish near the reef, But there was no boat to get. Ok, I get my flyrod an wading out on the reef. The tide was high, And it was dificult to wade out. After a while i started to cast the fly, in the see. And i catch FISH, Not big ones but very strong. I spend some days on this reef, And after a while i got a big audience Ha, ha, ha. All fish i catch i give to the local fisherman i meet the first day. He was very grateful, And give me a big hug. Mike thanks for all info you give me, And the time to answer to my email. I hope i can return some day to DR (But to Punta Cana) // Felix ---------------------------------- From: Alison Hackett [ add to contacts ] To: mike@MikesMarina.info Cc: Date: Saturday, April 21, 2007 08:23 pm Subject: Our split charter April 10, 2007 Hello Mike! Thanks again, Lisa -------------------------- Tuesday March 27th by Yance Yore Hey Mike, This is an old message that i am replying to but it is all i had left. I am sending you this thanking you for everything setting up my best fishing trip since I caught my 185 pound tarpon four years ago. Your crew was awesome and professional and put me in the chair to land six Dorado out of eight with one huge bull. The only reason we didn't land them all is we didn't have enough hands. We had 3 on at the same time twice and my wife, as your boys would say, was introduced to their friend RALPH...She wasn't much help. I have already had one guy contact you from Chicago and I will give your name to anyone who asks. I look forward to my next visit and you will definetly get a call. Thanks Again and Good Luck Yance Yore ------------------------------------ Mike's Marina Fishing Charters Tony Parsons March 2007 I had another great day fishing with Mike's Marina Deep Sea Fishing off Punta Cana this year. Last year we caught a big sailfin, this year its was even better. We set out in the afternoon with a fairly heavy swell and headed out way offshore. 5 dolphins joined the boat and swam with us for quite a long time before we hit a shoal of mahi mahi (dolphin fish). The lines were going off in all directions and the crew worked damned hard to help get the fish in and re-bait the rods. We caught 20 fish on our boat!! Fantastic. I would highly recommend this company, very professional and they find the fish too!! Can't wait to go with them again. ----------------------------------------------- Mike's Marina Fishing Charters Brad March 2007 Another GREAT year using Mikes Marina. Prebooked everything on the internet using Paypal so everything was very easy to do. Mike personally responded to all my e-mails. My little 5 year old went in a little 20 foot boat - just to do some simple fishing with his Dad. Last year he caught some this year he got something too big for our line we brought took everything so my son has his big fish story!!!! Mike provides all the fishing equipement but my little fisherman wanted to bring his own! The rest of the gang went on the big 42 foot boat. I am very use to deep sea fishing and know sea sickness can hit anyone so a childrens gravel before you go takes the edge off. One of our guys hit a Maui Maui and everyone was very excited. Everyone enjoyed the views from the boat - they also drove right past the sunken ship. We did a half day tour and everyone got back to the resort to have a late lunch and tell all the fish stories! Thanks to the crews (they are the best!!!!) and a special thanks to Mike! your amazing! You can see pictures in my photo album - the fishing pictures are in my Majestic Colonial album and last years photos in Ocean Sands photo album! http://community.webshots.com/user/holiday2fun Any questions feel free to e-mail me! holiday2@rogers.com ------------------------------------- From: ALAN KAUFMAN <fishnow@msn.com> [ add to contacts ] To: mike@mikesmarina.info Cc: Date: Thursday, March 01, 2007 02:35 pm Subject: Re: deposit received Hi Mike, Just wanted to thank you and your crew for a truly memorable fishing trip. If and when you do get your hands on some T shirts , let me know and I will arrange payment. Please find my report below. Feb 10 Fishing Trip Left El Cortecito at approximately 14:00 hrs under Captain Emilio Santana and First Mate Franklin aboard the Intrepido. The weather was partly cloudy wilth calm seas. Our charter consisted of a party of five , including myself , my wife Pam, Floyd from New Brunswick , Canada, and two gentlemen from St Louis, USA, Terry and Chris. After about 30 minutes we cleared the reef and Franklin rigged and dropped five lines , four with ballyhoo, and one large marlin teaser. Action was a little slow to start, bringing in only one small Dorado ( Chris ) and losing one large Dorado ( Me, of course ). About two hours in the action really picked up , as we hit a school and lit up all five lines at once. This coincided with a break in the weather , as the sun came out , resulting in a lot of fun for everyone. Over the next hour we repeated this action several times, with everyone bringing in at least two good size Dorado, and my wife Pam , landing her first ever Wahoo. All told we banged eleven Dorado and one Wahoo and had a very good time. Emilio and Franklin were great hosts, and kept us laughing the whole time. The group, who did not know one another prior to the charter, got along famously and we all ended up feasting on our catch later that night at the Captain Cook. Thanks Mike, we will definately be back next year. Best Regards Tim Fisch General Manager Mount Polley Mining Corporation -------------------------------------- January 22nd by Greg Cory Review of Mikes Marina and Deep Sea Fishing Charter In The Beginning: I have been deep sea fishing before this trip although never in the Dominican, same goes for several of my guests, so we pretty much knew what we were getting into. And although the trips were never that fruitful in the past, it was always a good time out in the sea with friends, so I knew I wanted to do it again this time. We contacted Mikes Marina several times via email leading up to our trip and they always responded very quickly and were very accommodating to our requests. We scheduled a half day charter for 12 guests on January 22nd 2007. The Morning: A nice shuttle bus picks you up outside your hotel – very prompt…but early in the morning. And although we scheduled it for 12 people, 2 of those 12 could not awake from the previous nights partying so off we went with 10 of us. Although the boat would have accommodated 12, a few less people was not the worst thing in the world. We arrived at the Ocean, where Mike’s headquarters is, and paid our half day charter fee. We also had Mike add a few little “grocery” items, so we paid for these here as well. Once we were all paid up, we boarded the taxi boat and headed out to our charter. Fishing: We had a gorgeous day, so much open water, and a lot of nice views of the Island. It was not long until the first mate, aka deckhand, was hard at work. Watching him prepare the baits was one of my favourite things on the trip, you could tell even from this that he was the right man for the job. The engines stopped and the baits went out. I think it was just less than an hour into the trip the deckhand sprung into action, he saw what he thought was a White Marlin miss one of our baits (Let me tell you, you have to be incredibly good at this to notice that, because looking out the back of the boat, you see the baits, you see the waves and the lines, but there is no way in hell you’re seeing a fish)…anyway, he removed the rod from the holster, let out some line, and turns out found what he was looking for. The Marlin enticed a second time, took the bait. I give full credit to his knowledge of fishing for this catch, otherwise it would have been the fish that got away…that nobody noticed. Anyway, I found myself in the captains’ chair for 20 minutes, before I was exhausted, the White Marlin, roughly 45lbs was the fight of my life. It jumped so many times it looked like a fake promotional video – I finally tired it out, got it to the boat, then it turned and ran into the sunset like flipper, jumping the entire way as my reel just spun out hundreds of yards of slack – so I passed the rod off to my father and went to rest. After another 15-20 minutes the fish was in the boat – what a monster, and already well worth the trip. For the rest of the trip we found various schools of Mahi-Mahi (Dorado’s in Spanish), everyone who wanted a chance, got to reel one in. They ranged from 7-12lbs, and although a far cry from the fight the Marlin gave us, an excellent afternoon of fish. We even had a double header of monster 25+lbs Mahi Mahi’s on, not to brag, but I got mine in by myself and another friend had his line snap. I don’t think he took the best approach to reeling it in – to correct this: listen to the instructions from the deckhand very carefully – and don’t panic – the fish is on, it’s not going anywhere, error on the side of caution rather than forcing it. All told my dad and I assisted each other on a 45lb Marlin, I reeled in a 25lb Dorado, and 6 others reeled in a fish, 8 fish in total. What a trip! Tips: Of all of our previous deep sea adventures, this was the roughest water. And although the boat handles it great, people’s stomachs don’t. 5 of the 10 of us “chummed” the water, including 2 seasoned veterans who have never been sick before. The best cure we found, were those behind your ear stickers. I didn’t need them, but the two people who used them were fine. I think they are $15 for 2 of them, wear both if you’re afraid, you should be fine. If you want a nice picture of your Dorado’s, see if you can snap your pictures right away. These fish are gorgeous colours, bright yellows/blue/green, but the colour fades away quite quickly, so see about snapping a picture right away. The other fish look the same once you get back to shore, so you can wait for those. Keep your electrical equipment dry! I recommend bringing a leather case, or even a plastic bag covering your camera (other than the lens), you never know when some mist, or some water, or if you drop it etc. Just be extra careful, cameras do not do well with water, especially sea water. When you’re traveling out to sea, keep your eye out for flying fish – no seriously. Fish, about 8” long will just from the sea, travel 50-80 yards then return from where they came. They’re like nautical hummingbirds, and well worth seeing – and you better see one too, or else you won’t believe me – very cool. Bring a backpack of stuff. Chips, snacks, sandwiches if you want them. Extra sunscreen, and wear a hat! Tip your crew. Your driver finds the fish, don’t underestimate that aspect, and your deckhand is just awesome. If you have a GREAT day, what’s another $10 per guy? We caught so many fish I thought that that would help go towards the tip, but the success was too much, so we tipped anyway. And bring extra hats – hats in the DR are like currency, and a great sign of respect and a nice gesture. We gave our driver and deckhand fishing hats from our local derby – they loved them! And you better have a hat to give Mike if you catch a fish! By Greg Cory greg@corvisionmarketing.com |

What a lucky son of a b...Brave Fisherman! We are in mid Hurricane Season for our local waters, off the Dominican Republic's east coast, out of Punta Cana, but this lovely sunny saturday morning we have winds of 5Knots and less, sea 2ft max, sun is the typical caribbean power plant. We are mid Blue Marlin Season, but 42ft Post named Intrepido is running out fishing with my friend Gabi, her brother and his 3 kiddies, all firsttimers, so Skipper Ramon Emilio frequents the close to shore waters 2-4nmls off El Cortecito to target Dorados and Wahoo on light tackle, Kiddies stuff. 5 lines on 20 and 30lbs Penn Int.'s in the water for around 30 minutes the portside longrigger clicks, Ballyhoo in the mouth of a small 150lbs Blue Marlin, hooked himself, the unexpected fight is on by a 20lbs reel and line. Fighting down a Blue on that tackle would bring the Billy more dead than alive to the boat for the long fighting time, Ramon is chasing him mostly with the boat, so after 30 minutes Marcos gets a hand on the Bill to loose the hook, away he goes. the next 1 1/2 hr brings the targetted Dorados fishing a weedline, all 10-15lbs class, the right stuff for our new offshore anglers. Still running on slow trolling along the weedline for more BBQ meet Ramon can see from the bridge what is coming up next, a once a lifetime hit, 4 Sailfishes on only 5-6 knots trolling speed in the spray at once, he hooks the one on the center line on the Bridge, Marcos failes one but hooks the other two and they fight 3 midsized Sails of around 40-50lbs the same time, a 14 year old boy, his father and the third one been for Mate Marcos, because the rest of the kiddies been aged 4-7, a bit too early. I never in my life got 3 Billfishes hooked at once, so Ramon and Marcos had THEIR day today. After 40 minutes the last one been released and they went back inshore, BBQ waiting for the Dorados. For sure an unforgetable day for the firsttimers, even for an experienced crew. We should target Dorados more often during Blue Marlin Season. tight lines Mike

Charter client report Blue Marlin Sport Fishing experience in Puntacana Dominican Republic On our Sport Fishing boat Alta mar with Captain Chino and his mate jose at only 6.7 miles offshore. Monday, August 21, 2006; around 12:30 hours: While I was asleep in the cabin with a friend, and three other boat clients were up top taking in the sun, I heard THAT sound. If you've ever fished, you know that sound - you live for that sound - the fishing line ripping and tearing from the reel! I am an avid angler from Northeast America and have a good deal of experience with Tuna, Shark and Tile fishing. I researched Dominican Republic fishing before my vacation, and knew we had a good chance to hook-up, but only if we found a good crew. Dominicana Tours, our vacation representatives, directed us to the Marlin. Although they said the Marlin was good, I just left the highlight of my vacation to their recommendation, and chance. I was NOT disappointed! Our Captain, Chino, and his Mate, Jose, took us out a half hour before the gear went out. Not long after, we hooked-up with a monster. I was first at the rod and there was nothing I could do but let line rip off the reel for 100-125 meters. Our fish had no intention of being caught, diving straight down while I tried unsuccessfully to reel it in for 20 minutes. Just when the reel was about our of line, the reel broke and all cranking was futile. We all thought the fish was lost for sure, but Chino and Jose made sure we brought it in! Chino ran down, as Jose put on gloves to grab and hold the dead line. The Captain then clipped the line and hooked it up to another rod with a live reel...AMAZING! We were now ready to bring in our trophy. After two hours of switching seat time with the other men on the boat, our beast was ready to be brought on board - a Blue Marlin about 3 meters in length, and weighing around 200 kilograms. When the experience was over, the rest of the staff proved just as wonderful. Neither I nor my friend brought a camera, but their representative, Claude, came to our rescue - immediately taking digital photos and e-mailing them to us. This was truly a great experience that I can wholly recommend to anyone interested in a great fishing experience, both grizzled and novice alike. after heavy rainfalls and thunderstorms blowing over the area the last two weeks it looks like we come back to normal this week for the local waters offshore Punta Cana. so this tuesday august 16th 42ft Bertram Shekinah took a half day charter to target our atlantic Blues and had to pass only one fight for the morning. around 10AM with Mate Chino on the weel Skipper Jose Manuel Mota hooked the first hit of the morning, a blue Marlin taking the small lure running on the long outrigger line on portside, hook set nice and easy in the sword's base and charter client Charles Wells had it's 90 minutes fight on a 30 lbs line, before they released an 200+ blue marlin. the afternoon of the same day didn't went that bad neither, 2 blue Marlin hits missed to hook within the first 1 1/2 hrs and a 35 minutes fight on the 3rd hit on a 50lbs line to release a blue marlin of max 200lbs. winner of the day been the uncle of Jose Manuel, fishing as the skipper on a private owned boat taking a Blue Marlin of 590 lbs, the biggest one this month so far, fishing 80lbs tackle and fighting 2hrs within several friends. winds on a 10knots blowing ENE (70') and visibility a 10nmls we hope to stay on that quiet conditions for a while to come back to the rhytm to rock'n'roll on the Blues. hopefully to be continued Mike |

Italian customer Fabio Steccanella had only one dream in mind when he contacted Mike at first early 2006, " i want to catch a Blue Marlin ". we figured out together when the best time during the 2006 Blue Marlin Season on the Dominican east coast would be, fishing out of Punta Cana, so at the end i decided by weather/moon/tide predictions to recommend the days before the full moon in august, so Fabio chartered my 42ft Bertram Shekinah with charter captains Jose Manuel Mota and Luis Alberto Caridad and their mate Chino for 5 consecutive full days starting Saturday August 5th til Wednesday august 9th. the first day, saturday, Sea was very calm, no waves, slow breeze, more the conditions for a boat ride, so he brought his wife Ariana with him. til 1PM they got only 1 Blue Marlin up in the spray but failed to attract him enough to take the lure, no hook set, no fight and then the weather changed quickly, by 3PM they run in under heavy rain and thunderstorms, weather conditions can change fast like that during hurricane season. day number 2, sunday morning, Sea on 5-6 ft, winds around 15 knots with higher gusts, the wife stayed at the resort. that day the boat did 9 hrs and again it was not a successful day, only 3 Blue Marlins up and no hook set nice, no fight, sunday night the crew changed all lures/hooks, if an equipment is without luck on one day it will never work. today is day number 3, the boat is still out, but Jose Manuel Mota sent me the report for the first half of todays trip by mail. at 11:40AM Jose set the hook on a Blue Marlin female, 9/0 Penn reel, 50lbs line on, the hooks set right and Fabio has the first Blue Marlin fight of his life. the fight lasted 11:40AM til 2:06 PM, 2hrs 26 min, during that time the crew of 3 had no chance to give their customer a hand, he wanted to get his fish on his own, no help wanted, and he won. Manuel told me by phone a minute ago that Fabio is barely able to walk right now, but he has still a very wide smile on his face. lines are wet again, they have 2 more hrs left today and of course wednesday and thursday are two more days to beat the size of todays female, the crew counts it on an 300+lbs, so there's plenty of space to top this weight upwards. i will download the pics from the cams tonight and post them by tomorrow afternoon. tight lines Mike Mike@MikesMarina.info |

While the white marlin season is ending we are still catching some ,but for us is not a big thing to worry ,because the blue marlin season is just starting in our local water.one of our boat ALTA MAR (SEA RAY 40 feet )skipper by Luis Alberto and mate Marco Ventura at only 7 miles offshore had a really big bite of a blue marlin they were fighting with the animal for about 10 minutes and at the end he broke the line.the captain said it was about 400 pounds, the fisherman a young boy 16 years old, was emotioned to make his deams come true.2 hours later they had 2 white marlin bites,on a 30 penn reel with 40 line they released one and keept the other one it was an extra size 72 pounds for him it was the bigest fish he ever caught. Friday june 23rd Moon a Waning Crescent on 4%, winds on 8knots, Sea flat after heavy nighttime rainfalls, Ron Szotak went out for a half day charter of 4hrs on our 42ft Bertram Shekinah with skipper Jose Manuel Mota. while lines been wet just 25 minutes after they cleared the reef, Jose found the right bait activities only 4-6 nmls offshore the Bavaro Beach area running in a white Marlin double at first. one missed and one hooked the first fight on 30lbs Penn tackle was on. after a 25 minutes they released a 50+lbs Marlin to meet again next season. it took one more hour in the same area to get the next hit, a white Marlin single, hook set and the fight took 30 minutes with a 30lbs line on a 20lbs penn international, sorrily the fishes tongue got badly damaged during the fight, so the gaff came out for a 60lbs on the BBQ. 30 minutes later they brought whitey number 4 up for for that morning, hook set, again a 60+lbs white Marlin, this time on a 50lbs tackle, he took the only Kona Head in the water beside the Ballyhoos on all other lines, the fight took 20 minutes and the Marlin been released unharmed to go on breeding. i hope i get the pictures from Ron this weekend to add them to the report. good luck to all Mike |

Charter Clients Travis and Holly Johnson sent the following e-mail to add to their fishing report: Hey Mike! First of all, let me say what a wonderful and great experience we had fishing with your crew at Mike's Marina! Our Captain, Manuel, and First Mate, Franklin, were absolutely perfect to fish with. I don't regret booking our charter with them and you guys! We had the time of our lives! It will be one of the most remembered experiences of our honeymoon! If we had thought when we ended our day and your crew asked us if we wanted our pictures taken, we would have. Especially now after reading the May 24 fishing report on your website! We might have had our picture on that report! We were just so exausted after the full day of fishing we weren't even thinking. So, with that in mind, could I send you some pics that we have from the charter that day, and could you post them along with the report also? local waters still calm, no waves, no winds, no nice predictions for the upcoming 2006 Hurricane season, but perfect conditions for our mid. white Marlin Season, running on the favored moon phase on the dark side of the moon, a Waning Crescent on 8%. 42ft Intrepido cleared reef 8:30AM with charter clients Travis and Hollie Johnson for an 8hrs out of Punta Cana's local waters on their Honeymoon. charter captain Manuel Mota found only poor action before noon, they took a couple of minor dorados, sized 10-20lbs, but then the movements changed rapidly after he found nice baitfish activities in the 8nmls area off the coast. within a couple of hours the charter received 7 white marlin single hits, failed to set a hook on the first five, but then they did it right on the last 2 Marlins and got their fights for 2 white Marlins in the 50-60lbs class. together with a couple more of dorados even with 5 missed hits at first a great day on sea at the end with the expected fishing action. good luck to all Mike

this Saturday morning june 3rd we made a great catch, even failing to release all caught Billfish. Charter client Brad Gabriel and Family went out for a half day charter, just 4hrs, and Brad got tyred from realing in white Marlins. sea on lovely 2ft, winds 5-7 knots east south east, skipper Alberto Rodriguez and his mate Franklin Johansi Recio cleared reef on sheduled 8:30AM, just a few minutes after our first quarter moon came out on 8:22AM at 80' in front of today used charter boat Intrepido, a 42ft Post. preparing lines only 2nmls offshore in front of the bavaro passage it took just 20 minutes before the first white marlin hit, hook set like on all hits this morning and Brad got his first fight on, it took him 25 minutes to get the 50lbs white Marlin beside the boat, where they released him unharmed, used reel was a penn international 30lbs. lines wet again it took an other 30 minutes and the second hit came up, different that time for several reasons: Alberto set the hook right away, but this time on a Penn international 20lbs and the white marlin had a 65lbs, showed all he could and fought for more than 90 minutes. sorrily the Marlin had his tongue badly damaged from the hook, so the crew decided he would not survive and gaffed him. now Brad was really tyred, lines wet again, boat position just 5 nmls off the coast that time, so they start a slower trolling inwards to maybe get some dorados for the 2 kids on board, anyways the 4hrs of a half day charter pass by fast when you get several hits. just 1 1/2 nmls in front of the Bavaro Passage heading inwards to cross the reef they got a third hit, again a white marlin, again the hook set right on first try, so Brad had to proof his strength again. this time the 50lbs white Marlin been hooked on a Penn international 30lbs with a 50lbs tested line on, after 15-20 minutes he was beside the boat and again we got a injured Billfish we could not release today, hook been set right through the eye of the fish, again they had to use the gaff today. at all a nice start for Punta Cana's weekend, on a 4hrs charter 3 white Marlin hits and all hooks set, looking forward what's coming up tomorrow morning. Mike

Hi everybody this is our fisshing report from 29 of may 2006,early in the morning we were on Alta mar boat with captain Alberto Rodriguez Espinal(moreno) and his mate Marcos ventura, about 7:30 am the sun was just rising and we were about 2.3 nmiles offshore right in front of the old light house in front of the punta cana airport, the ocean was flat, and our custumers were Mr William Shaftnaker(Bill) and his friend Smith, while they were talking about their last fishing trip ,suddenly we heard the reel’s sound they could not beleive what was happening,a nice white a marlin bite the fresh bait, they hooked it,after 18 minutes reeling and enjoying the jumping, they took pictures and at the end they release it,they think it was about 60 pounds of weight every body was happy. Then we kept trolling, and 20 minutes later they had a second bite it was a 18 pounds barracuda. About 1 hour later they had a third bite it was another white marlin smaller than the other, they enjoyed 15 minutes and release it again . we're still on perfect quiet sea conditions for our locals, sea 1ft, winds close to 0 knots, ocean flat like a lagoon. clearing reef 8:30AM that morning with 3 charter clients in our 31ft Bertram we found a weedline just 1/2 nml off the coast, following her for a while and found a dorado school about 2nmls offshore, where we took 5 of them, nice sized 15-25lbs each. leaving the weed line, looking for something floating or a current line aso not even 40 minutes later we got hit by a white Marlin Double, 1 hooked one left, fighting stand up on 30lbs tackle for 20 minutes we released the 50+lbs unharmed. lines wet we started trolling for more whites, recognizing good baitfish activities in the area around 4nmls offshore, we got 7 more dorados, 1 tripple, 1 double, 2 singles when the action started again shortly before we have to head backwards, charter was sheduled for just 4hrs, an other white Marlin double hit, again we hooked one and lost one, fight took only max 15 min. before we released a small max.40lbs. heading backwards with 5 lines wet to pass again the weedline from early morning we got right away an other white marlin hit, this time a single on the 20lbs center line, and he brought us the fight of this lovely sunday morning, 40 minutes stand up before we released a 70lbs white marlin, running in to cover some of the lost time for the late fight. tight lines Mike |

Posted: Sat May 13, 2006 Post subject: 5 marlins out of 8 hits just 1 day after the full moon -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- let's stay on Saturday May 13th what a lovely day, after Searay Altamar reporting one dorado after the other, one bigger than the other, Skipper Jose Manuel Mota said to himself 'we are in white marlin season, so we fish for white marlin, to hell with the moon phase'. with the sea level close to 0 ft and no winds present he cleared reef close to 9:00AM, a bit late that day because clients took the wrong bus, but after that day they knew they've been on the right charter boat with Mike's Marina Fishing charters. mate Franklin Johansi Recio took care of it's clients wellfare, like always, 6 charter clients for the full day, Dennis Wallace and friends, a group of 6 friends, served them the fresh caribbean fruits for on board breakfast, of course first all lines wet, so Jose Manuel took off the coast and run south to the area in front of Punta Cana's International airport, to run a fast trolling on 12+knots against all bad moon phase conditions in the area 10-14nmls off the coast. the result for that lovely sunny saturday was an amazing one. out of 8 received white marlin hits the group of overwhelmed charter clients had to fight 5 white marlins and fought them all to the end, each hook set just right that day. after the 2nd one been hooked Jose Manuel called me from the board phone to tell me i should burn my fishing reports which include moon phases, after he called me over radio to inform me about hit number 8 that day i've been very close to start a campfire. you can write down experiences over a lifetime period, but then there's the fish and his behavior, that what makes the big game hunt what it is, the best men can get, and always full of surprises, it does not matter how long you're on the job. pics of the jumping and fighting whities will follow in a couple of days, they've been taken by Dennis Wallace who promised to pass them over after his vacations on our fishing paradise island. to be continued tight lines Mike

Posted: Sat May 13, 2006 Post subject: Dorados til the end ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------- fishing Report update for Mike's Marina, dominican east coast out of Punta Cana. Saturday, May 13th Charter boat Altamar, our 40ft Searay, run by Skipper Luis Alberto Caridad with his mate Alberto Rodriguez cleared reef 8:30AM that quiet sunny saturday morning, trolling the area Bavaro-Arena Gorda for white Marlin and dolphin fish, sea level 0ft and winds close to 0 knots offered the perfect visibility conditions for anything floating on the surface, but mostly they stood on slow trolling of around 6 knots by strong current lines, present all over just 2-4 nmls off the Punta Cana coast. just one day after the full moon the skipper didn't aspect big white marlin activities, so he took his chances with any baitfish activity promising dorados(mahi mahi) and did it just right. the boat been chartered by Andrew Burt and friends, 6 at all, and they took one nice sized Dorado after the other, brought in the bigger ones, a dozen with 25-40lbs each, nice fights on 20lbs lines, so it doesn't has to have a sword in it's face always. pics will follow by tomorrow keep in touch and tight lines Mike |

this is the white Marlin season update for tuesday april 11th, afternoon ride, fishing Dominican Republic out of Punta Cana. Charter client Philip Heilpern, sheduled for 4 consecutive half day charters, had a great start on the first one this afternoon. after heavy but short early morning rainfalls sea was calm this afternoon, charter boat Intrepido, a 42ft Post run by skipper Jose Manuel Mota, left port 1:30PM and run into great action during the hour 2-3PM. first they got up a double of Sailfishes, they failed one but hooked the second on a 25lbs line, fish had around 40-45 lbs and has been released unharmed after the fight. while bringing the lines out after the sail fight right away they got hit by a white marlin, hooked on a 30lbs line, the 60lbs fish also been released unharmed after his nice fight. i'll keep you up to date with reports on our white marlin season. it's always worth the time to check on www.mikesmarina.info good luck Mike

this is the weekly fishing report from Mike's Marina Fishing Charters S.A., Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. this sunday's winner is our 40ft Searay with charter captain Luis Alberto Caridad and mate Alberto Rodriguez fishing a full day charter with Jake Walker. leaving port 8:30AM that morning, sea very calm on a beautiful sunny day on paradise island, moon a Waxing Gibbous 88% full, rising 11:48AM today on 78' front of our east coast, lines wet 25 minutes after leaving port around 2nmls offshore. we're mid white marlin season for our local waters so used reels are 30lbs internationals, nothing bigger than 50lbs reel with 30lbs line on, at 10:00AM they got a nice hit and hooked a out of season Blue Marlin with approximately min.200lbs of weight on a penn international 30lbs, starting a nice long fight in which the fish had several advantages over his hunters. after a 90 minutes the marlin stayed on the surface, allowed the boat to close in to picture and release the tired fighter, he showed his big effective trick, the blue jumped right behind the boat, landed on the diving plattform which we have to replace now, taking her in two nice piezes, line cutted on the sharp fiberglass edge and away he was with his ballyhoo, fish been hooked in his sword close to mouth, so he'll survife his victorious fight. boarding several dorados(mahi mahi) since then til noon Jake hooked a nice 60lbs white marlin and fought him down, the tired but unharmed animal was released without bringing him on board, on our catch & release charters we allow pictures of the tired fish only while he's in the water, if his condition seems to be fine to release him we let him go without taking him on board. i'm happy on any advise from experienced catch & release anglers, still learning, to release a billfish is absolutely unknown on our island and Mike's Marina is the only outfitter who started a change in that behavior. after the white marlin fight the charter took several more dorados out before heading back to coast around 4:00PM when i talked to Jake Walker via our board phone, he seemed to had a great day of fishing that lovely sunday april 9th. to be continued Mike

The real start for the 2006 white Marlin season we aspected starting with the first quarter moon, 50% full, rising 8:19AM on wednesday april 5th, but last sunday march 26th charter client Jason Jones was close to a record for our local waters white marlins, moon a Waning Cresent, just 10% full, early for the season to start. On board of our 42ft Post Intrepido with charter captain Jose Manuel Mota and mate Franklin Johansi Recio they hooked at 9:20AM, 50 minutes after leaving port, only 35 minutes lines wet, 2.5 nmls offshore, their first hit of the day on an 30lbs Penn International reel, 4.00 line on. They enjoyed a 49 minutes stand up fight fighting one of the biggest white marlins in our local waters for the last decade, bringin a weight of 104.5lbs. continuing the trip the charter received 3 more white marlin hits, hooking up an other one of 60lbs. I will continue to write at least one fishing report a week on this board to keep you guys informed about our white marlin season, lasting at least til mid/end july, joined by blue marlins starting around mid june. *catch pics of the operating fleet on http://www.mikesmarina.info/pages/8/index.htm *pics of catches you'll find on http://www.mikesmarina.info/pages/9/index.htm *Marlin Season lodging specials on http://www.mikesmarina.info/pages/3/index.htm *please let us know that Fishreports.net sent you to us by voting for Fishreports on http://www.mikesmarina.info check this Fishing Reports page out frequently, i'll keep it up to date Mike Mike's Marina Fishing Charters S.A. for the best fishing Punta Cana Dominican Republic |

hi mtd to visit punta cana for offshore activities first half of july 2006 would be perfect timing, monday july 3rd you'll find first quarter moon 50%full rising 8:37 AM over the sea, growing til full moon monday july 10th, that means to hook up with the best hit rates of the month and july is mid blue marlin season, full day charters 8hrs highly recommended to cover the whole areas, we get blues 8-25nmls offshore, our atlantic blue only averages 200-400lbs, but they are there for sure. pro charter boats 42ft post Intrepido with tournament experienced skipper Jose Manuel Mota and 40ft Searay Altamar with top skipper Luis Alberto Caridad are still available for the july/august period for blue marlin 8hrs charters. get your needed informations from people who know about their fishing, not from reps selling excursions. booked together with 2 full day charters you'll find bed & breakfast offers starting $33.- per night per room, hotel right on base, exclusively only by Mike's Marina Fishing Charters S.A. any question, i'm the skipper answering myself each of them. have fun and hold 'em wet Mike www.mikesmarina.info Mike@MikesMarina.info |

Mario, the strange weather conditions of the caribbean sea and atlantic ocean (22 storms/hurricanes), has cuased this kind of fishing. From 17 oct to 30 oct we have catched 21 charters in a row landing many dolphin fish, wahoo and some Bill fish (5), maybe the weather season is vanishing know but this is the report for these days. www.fishingpuntacana.com |

we were fishing in El Cortecito four day in a row in a first week of October 2005. Fishing was very bad. We had just one Baracuda and two Billfish. It sucks. |

Recently I had an amazing time fishing in Puerto Plata through a small tour outfit called http://puertoplatatours.com. The guide is a man named Don Miller, a retired American whose been living down there for many years who used to be a professional fisherman. He's great! A real wealth of information. Awesome prices too. I'm definitely going back on my next vacation! |
