First of all Darby let me start by saying to you ' that if I had a problem with the "crew members" I would handle it in a different way.I would not bring anyone into it either besides I think we all know who I am talking about. I have better things to do than worry with all of the drama they bring to that boat. All I want to say is that the only thing I can come up with is that they dont want to admit that they have done other people wrong not just us.. I apologize to you for having somethinglike that work for you. Here is my email address and a number because I have nothing to hide and wish to be left alone when it comes to the crew of the boat. I appreciate your time and like I said if I had knew about this site earlier I would have cleared my name sooner.. Thank you,
Ashley D.

This is for the crew of the Billy Boy bait boat. First off let me start by saying thanks to the Morro Bay Coast Guard for referring me to this site. I am the supposedly "red headed she devil" ex of one of the crew's, "Hi Joel" . For some reason it looks like ya'll think I am out to get you all. Well to be quite honest with ya'll if that was the case I would go about it a different way. I would not drag Darby and his mother into it, as much as ya'll would love to see his name drug into the dirt. Ya'll need to grow up and get a life. If you knew who all your enemies where you would probably know who had said that. I mean, come on Joel, slow down and think about it for a sec. me up at two in the moring worried about ya'll and that darn boat? PLEASE... Well all I will say is that I am not the one out there tryin' to get ya'll so you need to go elsewhere and run your mouth. Keep me out of ya'lls problem with the bait boat and be a man about things and confront them when you have a problem instead of whinning about it. Thank you very much for letting me say thisto stand up for myself because youguys have no room to talk about someone else...

So the Billy "Girlie" Bait crew seems to think that I am some red headed, redneck girl from Alabama ? I got a reel kick out of that, but that is not who or what I am. I am not gay so I would not be an Ex of one of them and by the looks of the crew I would not blame someone for being one either.... I will be a man about this and go straight to the problem but all crew members have never been treated the same as others here. "Crew" members you need to put time into that boat before it can't hold bait when you girlz do catch it.( It is just about as old as I am) Well, if it makes you guy's get along better thinking that I am some she devil from wherever it was then think on but you all would be suprised to who I reallyam....

Went out early this morning - it was pretty miserable. Waves were very close together and the drift was very fast. Caught a few, threw back three short lings then headed for the barn before it really got bad. Didn't hear any radio traffic about salmon.

Can't we just all get along?!

Mel, thanks for your efforts and the letter. It`s sad that many members of the M.I.G. would just as soon see us shut down when we have proven with out a doubt that we have a sustainable yearound fishery. Thanks Sharon for your letter this morning. The dist 2 supervisors seat is up for grabs. Do you want the Sierra clubs gal, the viewshed specialist or someone with some logic.

This is to Mevlin. I`m tired of the boys from the Valley are always the ones who screwed up. I`m 62 years old and have fished all my life. I grew up in Redondo Beach and caught my first albi in the 50`s. I have a 20ft skippy a bostonwhaler and a gregor aluminum boat. I have been a deck hand several times in my life. I have fished Mexico,Hawaii,France,Germany and many of the United States.I met you several years ago when you were trying to get a trip to Alaska and you never even call me and my friend to go. Just because I now live in Visalia does not that me or Valley fisherman are the ones who always screw up. Sharon Rowley has met me and I have called her to come while catching Salmon in the past. I always call when I`m on tuna but how soon you coast guys forget. Next time you write a letter place the blame where it belongs not on "The Guys from the valley" Mike

Friends: In early June, the Fish & Game Commission will be meeting to consider our 2007-2008 groundfish seasons. Once again, CDFG is proposing to screw our region and give us the SHORTEST FISHING SEASON OF ANY REGION OF THE STATE!!!!!

By the "high-option", Southern Cal would get 10 months groudfish angling. North of us they will get 8 months of fishing out to 40 fathoms. They are proposing to give our south-central region 6 1/2 months of fishing (April 1 through October 15). Here is a letter that I have sent to CDFG about this outrageous treatment of our area of the coast.

Thank you Sharon Rowley for the nice letter to the editor printed today in the Tribune.

There's all kinds of fishermen. Some are men, some are whiners. Some would rather whine about not catching than figure out what's working so they can catch. It's not hard to figure out which it is when there's no name on it. I'd like to know what my mom has to do with it. I'm here almost every day if you'd like to settle up.

Went out this morning and had to stay in the kelp line off Killers to stay out of the lumpy seas. No bad wind until about 11:00AM. Tried for some halibut, but the bait was tiny. It was hard to keep it on the hook. My daughter and I caught some nice rock fish in shallow water and we will have a fish fry tonight. We used Mega Baits and some plastics. The drift was speedy. i saw some guys fishing salmon outside but it looked bumpy and I heard of no fish on the radio.
I'm going trout fishing next weekend in the Northern Sierras. I hope you get back into the salmon. We ate our last salmon steaks last night. I need more!

Hey Will, been to the Rock last couple mornings & it's been tossed with the wind on it early. Looked like Virg's boats all just hung out there close--not many lings in the counts either. Little less swell on it today, but setting up a good drift in this wind just ain't happenin'. I think it's calling for it all week too--shnitzky! Radio awful quiet all weekend. Not hearing the regulars out there.
Anybody got a report?
Michele--where'd those pesky salmon go?
Are we reduced to stripers on the seaswirl at San Antonio? Here comes the ss minnow again!

good luck to anybody going out,

Scott

Wes--some years ago had good luck trolling rattle traps around the dam area, and throwing to boils, using a black steel leader to protect 10lb test from the gill plates. The only color they would bite looked like a miniature striper--kinda brown/black stripes with red chin, the larger size. 3MPH, along shore. Hit like freight train at full speed. Was fun...however that technique hasnt worked for me in several years.

It would be nice to know there is still a viable population, interested in report if you do go. Guluck; Cloud out

Does anyone have any information on crabbing around Moro bay, would like to know if it was worth the time dropping a couple of crab traps on the way out rockcod fishing and picking them up on the way in. If so does anyone know any good areas to start, and what the reg. are in the area.

Everybody is entitled to his or her own opinion including John. That’s what I said John, voice your opinion not mine! Yes my address is posted on my site and yes when I called K Gaffney, I told her exactly who I am and how to contact me by phone or other means. I bet she doesn’t call or listen to both sides either. Dam enviro groups are completely closed minded to any others opinion besides their own. Go ahead and try to show one the truth. I have shown them the huge schools of fish and was told it was bait or Krill. Then I showed them the huge schools were the fish they said don't exist. The next statement is always, (well you know, I like the fish more than the humans so the fish could not be there and must be endangered). Speaking of, I have watched them test the water in the bay and say it is so polluted it needs to be closed. They tested it in the boat harbor where all the boats are docked 24/7 and all the metal turns the place into a battery. All 20 of them walked down the dock and each did a test with beakers, test tubes and notebook computers entering data. What a bunch of biased idiots. Last week they had their boat at the harbor. The water was FAC. The boat sat on the trailer and they entered all the data they needed right there, than they towed the boat back to where they came from. Never even splashed the boat! Talking of hypocrite, take a look at Monterey Bay Aquarium. This is one of you major sponsors for closing Monterey Bay and yet, they are one of the most destructive groups out there. How do you think they feed their fish jails? Oh yea purse sain the bait again. Oh but they released the great white shark with his nose smashed in alive? Not! A great white needs that sensory organ to hunt in the wild. If it lived, it can now only hunt Man! If I am pissing you off, well you either can’t stand being told stuff you don’t want to believe or you need to open your eyes and seek the whole truth, not mine, yours, but keep your mind open to all sides.

Well Gentleman, that is nothing compared to the article in the SB news press authored by some "researchers" today that stated "overfishing is causing the kelp to decline" ... somehow these fools are trying to propagandize the public into preserving more of your fishing areas by saying that lobster fishing is causing the herbavoires to be so thick that they are eating all the kelp!!! Never mind the billions of gallons of sewage that goes into the ocean, they say that is " less harmful " to the kelp. This blows me away because everyone knows lobsters are scavengers and have no chance at eating the whelks that graze on the kelp These researchers at UCSB are so F%$#@! up in their thinking...but you know the general public will believe them. So read it and get ready cause the enviro-losers are at it again!!!

John, Your right, It is not proper to bug anybody at their house. I will try to find the office. Still you think this same group woulden't bug you? Coulden't help it. The info was pasted all over the front page of the Santa Cruz sentinal and it just pised me off so much. these people are going to allow the purse sainers to net huge schools of bait full of by catch but stop a sport guy from taking his kids fishing. sorry that is just not right.
I registerd though cause that is correct and what i want on my own club.
Thanks

Blackie,
i haven't found any black gill yet. I am in The Monterey bay area not Morro. Other then the common species, I have found sabels, Short raker, Rough eye, POP and a few others. Again you need to look up thr RCA cordinates. You will find as soon as you pass 120' everything is closed until you are in about 900' of water. that is where the costly gear comes in. you need big spendy electrics or hydrolics and lotts of 250# spectra. The closed area is not depth, it is a line drawn by entersecting way points.

For those of you looking at the MLPA's This is my last post on my own fishing club:
Well their at it again. The Ocean conservancy here in Santa Cruz has put the plan on the table in Sac to close 15 square miles known as the Soquel hole to fishing. That means No sport Halibut fishing any where in the area and no cod either. Their Lawer Kaitlin Gaffney is activing working to make this law. She is also trying to close the Ano Nevo area and a large strech between Natural Bridges and 4 mile.

Acording to the white pages, Kaitlin lives at 179 Pryce st in Santa Cruz and her phone number is 831 427 0946. Call her up and tell her what you think. You can bet I did.

Than write the Fish and Game, Barbara Finestine and the terminator as well. These enviro idiots have to be stoped!

Have fun and we will be posting the names and numbers of any enviro we get the facts about so you can voice your oppinion directly to them.

Dan, thanks for the info. I figured it wouldn't be long until they put more regulation in place to close the federal open access. It is very clear based on the stuff in the regulations that the ultimate goal is stop any new commercial fishermen from being able to make a living. Good thing I have a job other than fishing. It would be nice however to be able to offset the fuel and other costs associated with fishing by a part time commercial venture. I wasn't aware that the ling cod were part of the open access program. I thought Vermillion was pretty much the only thing in the shallow areas where I fish. Do you know anything about the Black gill in the area? I have been told that they are in 600+ feet of water. Again thanks for the info, I have been reading all the commercial regs but it is like trying to perform open heart surgery by reading the insert on a bandaid package. Thanks

Re: Dynamo Dan post/MLPA--Dan thanks for keeping this in the news--even tho I get so pissed about it I can hardly see straight.

The whole MLPA situation caught way too many of us by surprise and it went to far before we could do much about it. Thanks to this website, the CCFCC, and coastsidefishingclub.com there is at least some hope we can bring sense & fairness to the process (which wont go away entirely it's too late). For those that may not know, coastside has a lawsuit pending to stop the current funding mechanism, by an anti-fishing group, to the tune of 7 MILLION dollars. Essentially, the promulgation of public regs is being funded by a private org with an AGENDA. It could be compared to an oil co. being in control of environmental impact sudies for drilling in the SB Channel.

Its time to talk with money, involvement and numbers or SW fishing as we know it will be over as soon as next year. Everyone with an interest can help by supporting CCFCC and Coastside. Do it now or no complaining when your boat becomes worthless, and your favorite hobby is relegated to pictures of the past. Cloud out.

Blackie JR.
The PFMC curently has open access ground fish on their agenda for closure. Their excuse is that since the comercial salmon fleet cannot fish much anymore (because of the PFMC)their affraid that the salmon fleet (less than 900 boats for the west coast)will switch to ground fish. Of course they neglected to consider the 200 pound shelf cod)limit per 2 months that us open access fishermen have which makes it completly imposible to make money. Still with lings and some other species you can keep fishing this year. Expect to lose access next season unless you have landings dating back before 1999. Next, you need to do a lot of homework on species identafication and RCA cordinates. Most areas are closed to fishing for anything but sandabs with .44" hooks. You will also need a certified scale and you must identify & weigh your fish on the boat at the harbor and fill out a transportation tag before moving the fish. Than if you decide to keep a fish you will need a retail so you can fill out your own landing reciept, otherwise you will need to take all your fish to a lisenced loader and buy back what you intend to keep. The rules are exstensive. Start reading,it took me several months of study and $10K in gear to dial it all in correctly.
By the way, for you sport guys, The PFMC and the Blue Ribon task force are planning to make 1/2 of all the water under 120' a MLPA next year. This will result in us all losing our faforite fishing areas. The PFMC has every species including Macrel on their agenda for closure. Look at their meetings scedule: http://www.pcouncil.org/
There is a meeting starting at 8:00 AM until 5:00 PM every day from now until the end of time. I know the site sucks and is hard to understand. They made that way to keep you fishing while they take your right to do so away. Everyone needs to get involved to stop these enviro exstremists. Conservation yes-Enviro exstremist no!!! Get involved, start writting all your senators, congress, F&G, The terminator and all the rest.

Sheryl, I went Tues. I put the report on this site Wed. I hope you come up and show us how to catch this "fin icky" fish...Tues there were ideal salmon conditions..I was the only boat out there so maybe the fish are shallow or on the beach. I always fish deeper when I am the only one looking...The weather report is not good but you never know...I remember a few weeks ago out by the red light riding the waves and you and Ed caught 2 and the rest of us got zipped...Just go by my motto.Old and Bold....There are old fishermen and bold fishermen but there are no old, bold fishermen...Hope this helps,Good luck John

any fin fish that are not listed in the nearshore or deeper nearshore species list are legal excepting white sharks, black sea bass etc.
boat registration and a personal licence will run you $360.00, ish Halibut are fair game as well as black cod and blackgills, {basicly a deep water red}as well as shelf fish, IE: vermilion. canarys are supposed to be endangered and are illegal. and as Blackie Jr. said, anyone assisting in anyway must be licenced.
my suggestion is to call the dfg in monterey and get the facts, reg. book etc
best of luck

blackie,
when you say you 'went through the process', do you mean you now have a nearshore permit?

without a nearshore and deeper nearshore permit, you're limited to open acess slope, shelf, lingcod, flatfish, sablefish, and shark....with a mix of seasonal fish ....trying to fish the reds and lings and make it pay is a waste of time(you're limited to 20 fathoms right now) unless you're going to fish a bigger boat and go offshore for sablefish and blackgill...my advice is unless you're willing to dive in and get both feet wet(investing in an actual commercial vessel and purchase permits), stick with fishing as a hobby and not as a part time job.

Caper, I just went through the process with DFG and here is what I understand of the current commercial regs. You must register your boat and yourself and also anyone on the boat who contributes to the operation must also have a comm. license. This will allow you to fish for certain species which are not considerd nearshore rockfish or deeper nearshore rockfish. Most of the RF you will catch are under one of these two catagories with the exception of vermillion and starry RF. Good luck on the nearshore permit, they are expensive. In order to get one, you must buy two active and current permits and DFG will re-issue one in your name. They are specific to each region so you have to find two people with active permits willing to sell. The going rate is 5,000 to 10,000 per permit. If you let the permit expire it will be retired so the old ones that people used to use are no good if they have not been current. (translation) DFG is trying to make the nearshore comm. industry extinct. The only reason that you can fish vermillion and certain other "shelf rockfish" is that they are a federally regulated fish. You should be O.K. to fish flatties, albies, and also blackgill which are deeper RF. Hope this info helps, feel free to correct me if you know otherwise, might save me a ticket.
