Best link to identify canary vs. vermilion: http://www.dfg.ca.gov/mrd/canary_id.pdf ERIC can we blow this up and put it at the ramp? Maybe get it at the launch in Port too. I'll take a few copies over for their shop. |

Sunday Morro report. Fished salmon from 6am till 9am straight out from the Rock. Caught & released 1 silver about 15" trolling bait. Took a buddy back in to the ramp then stupidly proceeded back out. By 10am it was blowing 20kt+ Tried the albalone farm to killers for a few rockfish--mostly pesky blues & gophers. Couldn't keep the drift under 3kt. Forget this! Didn't even troll in as usual. Back inside by 11am. Sloppy but still trollable by then, but fish weren't chewin'. 1 huge baitball w/ whale just outside 10E but everywhere else spotty. Looked like more CB's out fishing then PB's. Pay more dues again when this crap lays down. Scott on the SloTroller |

Aaron, Yeah, the Striper and the Whaler Conquest that I was piloting! LOL! I was navigating by GPS and Radar and those soft targets don't paint much of a picture, especially when they're down in the deep trough. We got pretty close to a pair but fortunately I was keeping a sharp lookout and spotted them briefly before they disappeared in the steep swell. They were dead ahead of us. Being a kayak fisherman myself, you'de never see me out there in those conditions, certainly not that far out. |

Tim, The only thing risky to those kayakers off Spooners was the Striper that came buzzing by. Just joking. Those were some nasty conditions. According to our GPS, which is how we got back in due to the fog, we were drifting at over one mile per hour. Combined with the swell - the fishing wasn't so great. By the way, we ran into the editor of Fish Rap and the new kayak fishing writer for WON in the parking lot. We'll see what becomes of that. |

florida is a fun place to visit. the fishing regulations there don't hold a candle to the regs in cali.unless you're fishing from a private boat, you don't need a sport license there. the fishing(for food fish) is far better here than there.. the ammount of vessels on the water is just unbelievable, more so over a weekend.you really have to see it to believe it. good thing most of the people there are clueless on how to catch fish or there just wouldn't be anything within 10 miles from shore. you couldn't PAY me to live in florida, but i sure like visiting every year |

Here in Key West, Florida, there are lots of fish, but also lots of regs. Still all in all, a neat spot for boaters. Never seen so many boats. I knew as soon as I left town, the salmon would show up. John |

Joy Lyn Fish Report Saturday 6/3/06: Started out heading towards spot off Pecho but turned back showing mercy on the crew; started bad and getting worse fast as aready reported. 4 anglers ended up in decent bite off Pirates, 1/2 limits of mainly blues, some very good size. One short ling, several small gophers & 1 brown rf released. Could have filled the limits but left um biting instead. Talked to one commercial salmon troller working downhill from redlight buoy, 0 fish to report. The heat (inversion?) layer sure made Pismo-Guad beach and Pt Sal look weird. Made good picture for guest from Norway. FYI Recreational fishers in Norway are not even required to obtain a license. Explanation of our current & proposed recreational rules resulted in guests total bewilderment and "Wow they try take all fun away" observation. Indeed. OK there it is hope the wind blows itself out soon. Cloud out. |

LOL! Love those hitchhiking Lings! Had that happen many times. Mike, did you run past the group of Kayakers out off Spooners? Man, they were way out for those kind of seas. Pretty risky business with those conditions. |

We did have one funny thing happen, Jon, my brother, thought he hooked a big one, when he got it to the boat, it turned out that he had hooked a medium sized blue, but there was a big ling chewing it up, We sat there for awhile watching as the ling wasn't hooked. thought we would try netting, but as soon as it saw the net it ran. My guess it was about #10 Thank God they dont get as big as whitey! |

We put in at Morro Bay this morning at 6:30 and went south to Buchon. Caster, you're right, that swell was steep down there and had a short period! We fished the secret swimbait for about 1/2 hour and landed a couple nice Cabezon and big Reds along with a few short but fiesty Lings. For the first time in my 44 years, I chummed over the rail. Gotta love that feeling. I'm not worthy. |

Fished Morro Bay this morning. Foggy and just a little rolly but very fishable. Caught one 22 pounder about 6:00 and and had two more really good knock-downs. All hits came at 95 feet on a green and white hootchie in about 195-200 feet of water between 10E and radar buoy. Found a couple of big bait balls and the hits were just outside the balls. Stomach was completely empty on the fish. Had to leave early ( about 7:30) due to emergency at home. If I had the chance, I would fish there again tomorrow. |

if you look at the historical wind data at the csmb we had real similar winds at the same time last year. the water looked right yesterday with lots of bait and color. its worth a look in the morning before the wind comes up. |

Went out Friday for salmon. Worked the area southwest of the rock for nothing so went after rock fish at 1030. Came back at 1300 and made a pass from 180 toward the rock and picked up a 30lbr in 120' of water due south of the rock. Green flasher & purple haze hoochie. First fish of the year. Made the trip worth it. |

Salmon Report for Friday, One boat, headed out south south west, harbor mouth 4 miles, landed a 30 pounder and 18 pounder. Report was they were in front of the rock. The heading was the start of this post, 230 - 270 feet of water. Very reliable report the green water is running as far up as the domes, 51.4 degree. Red flasher yesterday purple haze 80 feet. Our top lure this year, water melon crock. Looks like the fish that were in Avila, a week and half ago our here now. Will be fishing Tuesday and Wensday. Rob, Plan B. you are right about Larry, he builds them and he also knows how to land them. Just a thought with friend a week ago, the last two years fathers day weekend, we had limits of 20 to 30 pound Salmon, for two of us. Is our real spring wind finally upon us. Just ask Michell Rawley? 10 straight days of 15 = 25 knots. Are the fish late like the rain? Maybe the next mounth or two might break wide open? Salmon, and Tuna, in the same month? Best regards, Joseph & Tami Anderton BBQ. |

fished solo this morning for three hook ups on salmon in 130' / 90' down between the 10 e and the rock. all three bit about 9 to 10am. a chrome and green coyote spoon was working for me. kept the one salmon that came up doa shook off the others. all the fish were smallish maybe 6-8lbs. worked out to 230' first off. lots of bait under the debri in a nice current break but nothing for me. moved inside.good bait marks most of the time. ended up dragging some plastic in the sand in front of the rock until noon. no halibut but one big mystery fish that shook off my barbless leadhead... water was very fishable. bbq- larry has done most of the rods for my wife and i also. he doesn't just wrap them he builds them. lots of pride in his work and he can back them up fishing experience. in fact i want to order another jig stick before an august rp trip so i'll be giving him a call. ill get your number or hit you up when i see you around town or the landing and we can talk shop. be prepared though i'll really go off on state fund and workers comp. california's only legalized extortion company. |

John is right. Lower edge of the Rod is clean and 59. Long haul 4 sure but encouraging. Best mass sits outside and below San Nic, 62-degrees and blue. It's still edging up despite major wind. 3/4 day boat out of Chn Isle had 3 yellows yesterday. |

Hello Rob, Plan B. One of these days we will have to connect. Contractor to contractor, flexible hours and days. They say I'm as bad as the local sufers. Surfs up no one shows up. Fish bite let the clients know the schedule has changed due to emergencies. Never tell them the bite is on. Best regards, Joseph & Tami Anderton BBQ. PS. Call Larry Holt, for my number. Salmon Report for Morro Bay, Today, All the sport boats were off the water by 1:00 PM. One good report, 4 fish by 9:30 AM. 80 feet down red flasher Purple haze hoochie, 230 feet between the rock and the old radar bouy. It makes me wonder if they would have raised their gear if there were still more fish to be caught? Yesterday our last fish came at 20 feet down in the afternoon 4:30 PM. All the fish we caught were 40 feet and up. Our partners fish came at 35 feet down green flasher green hoochie 10:00 AM. We ended up 4 miles south of the rock. Best regards, Joseph & Tami Anderton BBQ. |

Here's a fish report for y'all: The Feds have decided the allowable commercial BYCATCH for Canary rockfish is 4.7 metric TONS. Yet a recreational angler brings in ONE Canary and gets a fine, and our season is reduced. Read it and weep: A final rule establishing the 2006 fishery specifications for Pacific whiting in the U.S. exclusive economic zone and state waters off the coasts of Washington, Oregon, and California, as authorized by the Pacific Coast Groundfish Fishery Management Plan (FMP) has been published in the Federal Register (71 FR 29257; May 22, 2006). The Following specifications have been established for 2006: • U.S. ABC, 518,294 mt • U.S. OY, 269,069 mt • Tribal allocation, 35,000 mt • Commercial OY 232,069 mt • Shorebased allocation (42%), 97,469 mt • Catcher/processor allocation (34%), 78,903 mt • Mothership allocation (24%), 55,696 mt The bycatch limits for the whiting fishery have also been adjusted. For 2006, the whiting fishery bycatch limits are 4.7 mt of canary rockfish and 200 mt of widow rockfish. The full notice is available on line at www.nwr.noaa.gov/Groundfish-Halibut/Groundfish-Fishery-Management/Whit ing-Management/index.cfm |

Geoffe, Megabait makes some nice Iron. I've had the Lings and just about everything else hammer them in all the sizes from 2.5-6 oz. You can buy them online or try your local Wally World. James, A freebie site is tempbreak.com the other would be terrafin.com but it's subscription only. John, are you using terrafin? I was curious if the recent shots are any better than what is viewed on tempbreak or is it all the same? Haven't seen much in the way of good shots with the marine layer laying out there recently. |

Darby, Any chance of getting pics of the skippers of each boat up on your website? That would be cool. Question for every one. I love swim baits, dont get me wrong, but bouncing a bar is enjoying as well. Who is making jigs these days? Any websites? I need to order some since I moved to Washington. Last thing, any tournaments going on this year? I miss those. Big money + big fish = fun times!!!! I would fly down for something like that. |

MEL--give us the names/addresses/and a mission. Look, we ALL need to stick together on the fishing issue or its gonna get shut down even WORSE; there won't be any fish reports to post, only regrets about not taking action when it was required! Here's a novel idea: Let's put all pettiness aside, get our act together, and WIN THE THING. Coastside has *proven* it can be done. I can tell you the PFMC and DFG were absolutely *shocked* by the Coastside effort. If we also hammer them now, they *must take notice*. The regulators (government) are bowing to pressure from the anti-fishing groups & agenda because they are the ones sending the letters, e-mails, faxes, phone calls *by the thousands*. In other words they are louder than we are in the "public involvement" part of the process. Just go to the MLPA Public Comments on CA DFG Website for proof! And that other side is *counting* on us infighting--they are LAUGHING at ALL of us right about now. I have pre-prepared labels, email addresses and/or links for many regulators, and am willing to share with whoever wants them. I especially & cordially invite all fisher folks from "the valley", who come to the coast for their hard earned recreation, to join in this effort! Mel, tell us WHO, WHERE and WHAT to send and I'll do whatever I can to grease wheels. Also please allow us an opportunity to endorse CCFCC opposition to our unfair treatment. We *must* let the powers that be know we are sick of this treatment--in big numbers--and are not going to take it ANY MORE. Is anyone listening? Cloud OUT. PS--Fish report in near future. Remove SPAMFOILER if emailing for labels. |

i'm suprised at the warm water creeping offshore ...i would have expected the wind to push it well away...the hard break on top of the rod looks pretty interesting...time to put the albacore gear onboard and be ready for some kind of break in this wind. |

I caught a salmon while rockcod fishing today. It was at 20 min. rock and it bit at 30 ft. on a white superfly. It was about 18 inches. This is our 1st incidental of the year. A mackerel hit the top hook at the same time. Mike, I was just kidding, I really don't remember what color I had on last night, but I do have more than one pair. Sharon is right about the rockfishing thriving. We have been doing great! |

Friends: First to "Blueboat": I know these guys were from the "Valley" because they told me so. They brought in canaries to the cleaning table so I assume they were "uneducated" about the law prohibiting canaries. It was not a generalization ... it was a factual statement. We certainly cannot blame Charles (who took down the data for CRFS). In addition to that (and I am not picking on the Valley), a week later two guys came up to the cleaning table and were complaining that they got a ticket from CDFG for keeping canary rockfish. They admitted they were from the Valley and didn't know that canaries were illegal or what they looked like. Luckily, CRFS was not present on that day and these canaries did not get added to the picture. I cannot help it that these guys said they were from the Valley. Of course we like people coming from the Valley and everywhere else to fish here ... but you have to learn the laws before fishing. I was not making a generalization ... I was stating a fact that they guys who caught the canary rockfish were from the Valley (by their own statement). The direct statement from CDFG representatives is that those 7 canaries in the first week are being used against us to cut down our coming groundfish season. I don't like it and we are doing everything we can to fight CDFG on this issue. I might soon be giving you addresses where you can send your e-mails to complain about our area being hammered again on this issue (it worked for Coastside Fishing Club on the salmon issue). Someone asked if we can "count" on getting 6 1/2 months. No! That would happen under the best option ... called the "high option". Under that best option ... Monterey and north would get 8 months of groundfish angling. Eric ... please contact me. We need to talk about a HUGE sign (really huge) and picture at the ramp showing a canary and warning anglers not to keep these critters.... Mel |

It sure would be nice if people went back to writing about fishing on this site and left the rest for Oprah...We fished On Monday out of MB in dirty sloppy water. There were 6 commercial salmon trollers out in front of Morro Bay State beach in 180-250ft.We fished the same area from 7:00-9:00 for nada, but heard/saw a couple caught.I think it will be decent salmon fishing when the wind and swell backs off later this week.We have been catching some nice flatties out by the red buoy in 85ft on swimbaits. That action should pick up now that Virg`s has live bait.It was frisky 3-4" 'chovies on monday. We have also been consistently catching nice reds off the "killers" buoy and the Abalone Farm north of Cayucos in 150ft...I`ll be back out on friday and sat. looking for salmon if the wind and swell back off....jeff |

Generally there are several options for a fishing season before DFG picks one, that's what I read on the Pacific Management Council's website. What are all the options, was what Mel said the only one? Hopefully, he was talking about the worst case, hopefully.... |

OH. Drama fishing ehh. You know, soap operas are on television. You can tune in any afternoon, instead of wasting perfectly good fishing report space. "NICE FLATTIE PIC'S" lets see some more pics. and hear from less "richards" |
