Thanks for the report and all your hard work on our behalf, Mel. One quick question to you or those "in the know." So we get the 7 months out to 40 fathoms...where or when does the MLPA situation kick in? Will we all be stacked up off of Pecho Rock or Estero Point because we're shut out of all the other areas? Just curious where we are in that particular process. Tim |

Friends: REPORT FROM PFMC MEETING IN FOSTER CITY I have been at meetings and hearing all day here in Foster City. Today's big issue is the 2007 & 2008 groundfish seasons. The "HIGH OPTION" might be tolerable, but the "LOW OPTION' would destroy Virg's and Patriot Sportfishing. After a day of testimony (if it is possible to read the tea leaves ...) I believe that the PFMC will vote tomorrow morning to choose the high option. The high option relates to the total QUOTA TONNAGE OF NEARSHORE ROCKFISH AND THE TONNAGE ALLOWED OF "OVERFISHED" DEEP WATER SPECIES. The High Option will necessitate taking a longer time to rebuild overfished deep water species, but provides the most fishing opportunity for commercial and recreational fishing. I believe (don't hold me to it) that the PFMC will approve the high option and we should get 7 months of rockfish angling in 2007 and 2008 (May through November). They have reduced the zone north of us to 7 months and we also get 7 months. We should be able to fish out to 40 fathoms during those 7 months .... Again ... these are my predictions based on reading the tea leaves. We should have a better picture by Friday. Tommorrow ... I will also be seeking an "in-season adjustment" to allow us groundfish angling in OCTOBER this year ... like 2006. That would be nice. Right? I will keep you posted. Mel |

Short report. Just in from another overnighter on June 13 plus fished the PCYC tourney. LIke David and Cory, we too dedicate our efforts to one of the greatest anglers in our hub; Ed T. Rest in piece dear Ed. We too came up short but our combined 2 trip effort kicked out 8 halibut, 2 yellowtail, 2 black sea bass, and an assortment of realers including some nice bass, lings, sculpin, etc. Arron and I only harbored one bigger butt that went around 28-lbs but it was good enough to claim the pot in the $100 side. Yellows went 30 and 27-lbs per spring s. Largest incidental black sea bass aprox 100-lbs and all released well, including one that spooled me last night at midnight on the 30# rig / 300+ ? Live squid key. Thanks Cory off Sweet M. for the loaner sock. Class guy. Ours is sitting on the bottom right now ad the butts are wondering in their nighly meeting, "so what the heck is that?" How's everyone going gang?

Mr. Flying (Jackass) Witch I just got this E-mail forecast. DCPP Weather Forecast for Wednesday 06/14/06 SEA/SWELL: Strong to gale force northwesterly winds around Point Conception will gradually spread northward as the Eastern Pacific high intensifies during the next 48 hours. These winds will generate 4 to 6 foot northwesterly (300°) sea/swell (with a 5-11 second period) this afternoon and will continue at this height and period through Thursday morning. This northwesterly (300°) sea/swell will further build to 5 to 7 feet(with a 5-10 second period) on Thursday afternoon through Saturday. This northwesterly sea/swell will further increase to 8 to 10 feet(with a 7-11 second period) on Sunday through Monday. A 6 to 8 foot northwesterly (290°) swell (with a 9-12 second period) will develop along our coastline on Tuesday, decreasing to 5 to 7 feet by next Wednesday. Why don't you go out on Sunday with your 10' boat as far out as you can. jerk |

With albie rumors starting to fly (crabbers seeing jumpers off Washington?) here's an interesting SST site I found. You can even view the bottom contours and SST in Google Earth: http://www.tempbreak.com/index.php?&cwregion=mo If that doesnt work go to the homepage and then go from there. It starts with the socal chart but the MB/Channel Islands is in the drop-down menu. Pretty cool--its a beta version now but am sure loooking forward to the finished product. Cloud out |

Jackass, I think she was taking about this upcoming Thursday. The winds are already blowing over 25 kts at the offshore buoys. But if you want to take your 10' boat out on Thursday, the USCGand the Morro Bay Harbor Patrol will have fun fishing you sorry ass out the water. You should move back to Bakersfield. |

Gang: It's official, we'll have the LAUNCH RAMP IN MB CLOSED THURSDAY FOR A LARGE VESSEL DEMOLITION. I'm hoping that it doesn't take all day, and/or that we will be able to squeak a few people by if absolutely necessary, but I'm not guaranteeing it nor should you count on it. We'll be towing the boat there about 10am tomorrow, and tying it off to the south side dock. The demo crew will be working on it while afloat, and you will still be able to launch and retrieve around it the rest of the day. Around midnight Wednesday the demo crew will pull it as high as the tide will allow, then have at it first thing in the morning on the minus tide. I hope that everybody understands and can live without the ramp for the day. The weather forecast is for 15-25 northwest, so you won't be missing much. Give us a call vhf 12 or 772-6254 if you absolutely need to work something out to get on the water Thursday. Eric Endersby Chief Harbor Patrol Officer Morro Bay Harbor Patrol |

Thanks for your help last Friday on Mill Creek- Launched the ugly but airtight inflatable at Mill Creek at 7:30 Sat morning, FAC and no wind or fog it was awesome. We motored all over St. Lucia Bay looking for some rock piles but all we found was sand and dabs went out to 200' and another 15-20 stops south and West, without FF and depth we were fishing blind. WHERE ARE THE ROCKS?...Finally pulled into 40' at the south kelp paddie and nailed the Black Cod followed the school around and filled the cooler with some real big'uns and some schoolies. Fresh Rockcod fish tacos over the weekend which is something special as ( home waters) Santa Cruz will have to wait until July 1st. Greggo |

Sorry guys I should have been more specific. I need my boat off the trailer so I can work on the trailer. So I need a place that will put the boat up on blocks, and I can drive the trailer home and work on it. Does anybody know of anyone capable of that in or near Santa Maria? |

Gang: There is a good chance that we'll be closing the launch ramp in Morro Bay this week from Wednesday afternoon through Thursday night. That big 65-foot sunken junker from the back bay that has been getting so much press lately is going to be demolished at the ramp. It's the only place that it can be done. Fortunately (for us at least), looks like the winds are piping back up to strong NW Wednesday and Thursday, and possibly to gale force throughout the weekend. I sincerely apologize in advance for any troubles that this might cause, but it has got to get done. It's only a day and a half. For those of you that are an absolute must-go, I am more than willing to work out some slip or dock space for free if you can put in early, or get caught out after the ramp closes. And we may be able to work around the demo crew if it's absolutely necessary, but I don't really want ot go there yet or make any guarantees. Just wanted to get the advance warning out there, I hope that you guys understand. Spread the word. I'll know more tomorrow, but it looks like it's going to be a Wednesday-Thursday deal. Call our office 772-6254 if you need more info. I'll post again tomorrow. Thanks. Eric Endersby Chief Harbor Patrol Officer Morro Bay Harbor Patrol |

Monday's report for Morro. If you were not on the water today, I pity you. Flat calm from sun up to sun down! Fished with Joe on the BBQ. Joe was kind enouigh to take my son our rock fishing as he's being deployed to Japan this Thursday. We ran up north of San Simeon 27+ KPH the entire way up! Fished for some nice reds 3-6lbs and a couple big lings (fish box weighed in around 150lbs!). Boy got a nice 30" hitchhiker that made the terminal mistake of trying to eat a gopher in one bite! Them gophers work better than hooks! Joe caught 1 salmon on a jig at 220' bout 20", tossed him back. Ended up hooking and releasing two more nice salmon out front both barely legal. Out from was incredible, pilot whales, grey whales and Joe and I both spotted what looked like Orcas. Tons of bait, lots of macks, tuna may just go off if the water warms up a bit. Ran home at 30+KPH! Now that's flat calm. |

Friends: This week the Pacific Fisheries Management Council (PFMC) will be meeting in Foster City to consider the groundfish season for a two-year period (for 2007 & 2008). The main day for these discussions will be Wednesday. I will be up there arguing for a longer season. At last report they were talking about giving the region north of us 8 months fishing and the region south of us 10 months .... and giving our area 6 1/2 months. Yeah ... it STINKS!!! Steve Moore has been jaw-boning on the telephone and maybe we will get 7 months, but only out to 30 fathoms. I will keep you posted and report back here when I return on Thursday or Friday. Mel |

Jos, We have been using squid lately. The whitefish love squid. There are some spots at S.S. and above that we hit when we have our limits of rockcod. Some people get their limits (10) amd some don't. |

Hey stacey That was my pet SEAL pete , he lives around the area and will take your lings you farm. Killer Bs fished Sun with Four aboard, started out slow but managed to get out with three limits , nice reds, strange thing , JR caught six tree fish , all were released alive, must have hit a forest down there . Anyway the weather was super and the fishing was average, fished south close to the farm. released at least 20 short lings. Also someone out there needs to look at the pictures of the fish in the book and remember what a GOLDEN EYE looks like. Blackie/Sr |

What a day...we were all certainly due for such great weather! We put in at MB this a.m. and decided on heading south along with a buddy boat. We worked off of Spooners in about 150'. 2 of us onboard were fishing 5" swimbaits in our "top secret" color and we both landed numerous Reds in the 6 and 7 pound range and 1 27" Ling. Our third deckie fished jigs and teasers for Gophers and small Reds until we cut them off his line. We had near limits for all 3 but we had to work hard for the quality size. What great weather! Because we didn't get blown off as expected, we lost complete track of time. Great day! |

found the bigger lings are in shallower water. Got busted off close to the boat 40" + ( I know the big one always gets away.) fumbling around with rod in one hand and net in other. on kalin green swimbaits. also saw some really unique launches out of leffingwell, Amazed nobody got hurt. a couple of guys waded out with their motor in gear, hopped in and away they went. |

Nice day out Of Morro Bay on Sunday. Flat, beautiful ocean with lots of whales and sea life. Whales put on a great show in the morning pounding their tails on the water. Trolled all day for three knock downs, one was definately a salmon but lost it before we could even get it to the boat. Lots of surface bait especially near the radar buoy in about 220-240 feet of water. Birds constantly diving. No fish but a great day. |

Fished out of MB Sat. ran down to hazards and then to spooners, nice and calm out there, we were able to go flat out. caught two nice lings and one big #5 red, lots of gophers, used frozen chovies, but the lings and red were caught on 5" wildeye swim baits, that I bought on a whim at the Outfitters. Congrats on your full boat Michele. |

Thanks Michele for the comeback. Stopped by there on the way out sat. & the receivers looked kinda dry. Went inside & got some frozen from you guys. Line was out the door! What was it "free fishing day" or what? Great to see the crowds, good for business I'm sure. Since there wasn't much of a salmon fleet went down off spooners for a few rockfish & 1 barely keeper ling. Ran up to the ab farm looking for the whales on the way. Caught & released a just under halibut & tons of blues but never found the big reds--Good Kharma musta got 'em all the day before! Wind up a little at 2 pm, but beautiful sunshine most of the afternoon & barely a swell. Lead-head squid jig caught the bigger stuff. Good job Sheryl & Ed (Playin' Hooky) on sticking it out for the keeper. Nice talking to you out there. See you on the job. Scott SloTroller |

I fished Morro Bay for salmon from 6:30AM to noon for one shaker. Tried every trick I know. There were lots of whales and sea lions and birds were everywhere, but I metered only a few bait balls. Weather was super calm all morning with even a little sun. Hope they come back for Sunday. Will |

It was a nice fishable day out of PSL. We trolled almost all day for salmon, we finally picked-up a keeper at 3:30 in 135 ft. water outside the red light. It came 50 ft. down on the wire with a strait bubblegum spoon. Little or no bait marks. Hope someone can use this information. We will back tommorrow. Good Luck, Sheryl & Ed |

We'll be out sat/sun on the SloTroller. Finally got a decent window I hope. Probably hit the rockfish early & troll back for salmon unless radio advises otherwise. Hey Michele, does Billy Boy have live? Cruised by last weekend & didn't see anybody there. Could you refresh me on the procedure to reach them on the radio. Do we hail them on 16? Thanks. Oh, think one passenger needs a license anyway so we'll ask somebody down there tomorrow a.m. Gook fishing all. Scott |
