Mr. Henderson,

I am writing this letter to express my disappointment and concern about =
buoy #46062 being removed. My fishing friends, family, and myself =
consider this buoy information to be invaluable to ourselves when =
planning trips out of Morro Bay or Avila Beach. As you may or may not be =
aware of, the Morro Bay harbor entrance is considered one of the most =
dangerous on the west coast. The information that WAS provided by buoy =
#46062 helped us to make critical decisions on if, when, and where to =
launch that could be potentially life threatening. I specifically =
remember when the "Mojo" luxury yacht tried to go out in large swells =
and provided us with the memorable picture of the giant wave sweeping =
over the boat. The other incident was when Graham's Landing tried to =
send out a whale watching boat that was 65' long and was rolled =
resulting in deaths and a bunch of young children going into the water. =
I know that there are many more instances of boats rolling, broaching, =
or being swamped that can be documented by the Morro Bay Harbor Patrol. =
I own a 22' boat and before every trip out of either port, I would call =
up the information from buoy #46062 to get real time data to make a =
decision to fish or sleep. This buoy provided us real time information =
to make sound and critical decisions on whether to go fishing out of =
Morro Bay or wait for another day that was not potentially life =
threatening. I take my family and friend's families fishing and I do not =
take this responsibility lightly when making a decision on a fishing =
trip that entrusts up to 6 or 7 lives in my hands as captain of my boat. =
The Cape San Martin buoy is a good backup to predict approaching weather =
patterns and the Santa Maria buoy tells us what already has happened, =
but the Pt. San Luis Buoy #46062 was the lynch pin with accurate real =
time information to make sound and life protecting decisions going out =
of Morro Bay or Port San Luis. I strongly, strongly request that =
anything that can be done to replace this buoy is fully implemented to =
help protect the tax paying public that enjoys the central coast ocean =
activities. Please feel free to contact me with ant suggestions on how =
we can get this vital buoy back on line. Yours truly, Fred Valov.
