Fishing in Rockport TX

The Rockport area (population about 10,000) is well known for its excellent fishing, sailing, birding, shopping, art activities, sight seeing via boat or land, museums and festivals. With its own small airport just 4.5 miles from downtown Rockport, the Aransas County Airport is a nice amenity to the local fishing community. This airport provides fuel, 50 tie downs and hangar storage.

The climate here remains relatively pleasant all year long with the average temperature being 73 degrees. The local community remains heavily dependent on the fishing industry from private guide services to shrimping.

Bay fishing consist of redfish, drum, speckled trout, flounder. Offshore fish fishing consist of shark (Black-Tip, Bull, Hamerhead, Tiger, Mako, Sandbar, Nurse), Dolphin, Grouper, Kingfish, Mackerel, Blue and Whire Marlin, Blue Runners, Sailfish, Red Snapper, Lane Snapper, Tarpon, Yellowfin Tuna, Bluefin Tuna.

Fishing is good year round. With such a wide array of fish, you are usually going to catch something. Peak season for bay fishing would have to be the summer. Black Drum are good during winter months.

Cove Harbor Marina Located off Business Highway 35 South, you can find fuel, outboard oils, cleaning table, lighted, four ramps, and restaurant. Phone 361-729-6151.
Goose Island State Park Provides a cleaning tables, lighted, and two ramps. Phone 361-729-2858.
Rockport Beach Park Ramp Located off Business Hwy 35 in Rockport. Admission to Beach Park is free if you are towing a boat. Phone 361-729-9392.
Copano Causeway Pier Located off Hwy 35 N, divides Copano Bay and Aransas Bay, lighted, cleaning tables, open 7 days a week, 24 hours a day, Admission $2.00 per pole. North end contact phone 361-729-8519; South end contact phone: 361-729-7762.
Rockport Beach Park Piers Located off Business Hwy 35 in Rockport, just follow the signs to beach. North Pier - go through the entrance booth to beach and down to the north end, wooden, $3.00 per vehicle admission at entrance booth or purchase an annual beach park pass/sticker . South Pier - before you get to the entrance booth down to the right, concrete, no fee. These pier have are located in deep water ares, so take caution when in the area.
