Default Sheepshead Bay Fishing Reports plus other trips too

I got my picture in the Brigantine Times

This was a great catch for me. I got this one from the rock jetty at the south end of Brigantine Beach.

I used crabs found in between the boulders of the jetty.

Monday May 13th I went with some friends out on the "Fish Monger" out of Point Pleasant NJ.
It was cold and windy for the middle of May. 55 degrees with 15 - 25 mph offshore breeze.
We left at 6:00 am to Live Line for strippers.
The fishmonger is an old 35 foot Bertram. She is fast but not luxurious.
First stop was snagging for bunker off the beach in Longbranch.
Then to some rocks off Asbury Park to drift our live bunker.
We caught some stripers like this but then the big bluefish showed up.
At that point blues were taking out bait.
Then about noon we shifted to trolling off the beach for the srtipers who were not feeding too well in this weather change.
Captain Jerry explained that we would tease the fish into biting with the umbrella rigs dressed with 5 inch chartruse shad soft baits.
Thanks to his thoughtful plan we all had 2 fish each to take home. All big ones. And some blues too.
I cranked in a double header and the biggest cow of a stripped bass. (biggest fish of the trip)

The captain and the mate (John) on this boat are real fishermen and it was great to sail with them.
