Default Trick'a Fish report 5/11/2017 PSL

6:30 AM launch at Port San Luis, high fog, 6' NW swell, light NW breez as my partner Dave and I went around the breakwall heading for the 3 to 4 fathom water inside Pecho Rock. Bounching irons, Dave pick up a 5 lb rock for his rock garden on his first drop only to follow that up with a 15lb Halibut on the next drop. Halibit hit a red & white iron with a large orange screw tail and stipe of squid as a tease, it was the first Halibut he had ever seen live (he has only fished ocean a few times). We stayed around Pecho Rock inside and outside all morning to fill the box with 3 nice Cabs, a 4 lb Jonny bass, two large Cinnamon rock fish, one 2 lb kelp greenling(sea trout) and then completed our 3/4 limit of rock cod with all larger Gophers we culled out of the 20 or so we caught. All lings caught (4) were shorts so no keepers. We did talk to three guys at the cleaning station that had been working in 10 to 12 fathoms off Pecho Rock that had a limit of nice lings and some good size reds.
We pulled the plug at noon and headed in with a nice following seas. Another great day fishing on the Central Coast with a delicious Halibut dinner as the days rewards.

That is really fun to get a halibut! That's why you go fishing, you never know what you're going to get!

Glad to hear of the first reported!
Last year we couldn't find any.
Year before we caught three in that vicinity.

    Spoke with Deke today
Reminded me of the days when there were sardines in the bait caught, and the halibut were all around PSL

Fished MB yesterday before the wind came up...We fished in 295ft inside Church Rock and cleaned up on huge reds ...The wind ended our morning at 9:30 but we had all the cods we wanted...Lots of bait and whales in the whole general area....Jeff

On the live bait- Patriot owner is showing signs of taking another stab at getting the bait operation up this year. Hopefully they can pull it together, sure would be nice to have if halibut are around.

Thanks, Rowdy, for that info. Speaking of Hali's, take a look at the Halibut reports from the San Francisco area over the weekend.
