Man after doing tons of research on trolling for salmon I understand why a lot of peeps dont reply to this thread. There's like a million different ways of going about and at least enough to give me a brain tumor from staring at the cpu.
For my first try at it I am going to search for fish and bait trolling with rsk's and hot shots at least 24 feet behind boat
. Sound about right? other than that its just another learning curve and time on the sea. Again Thank you all for the info I got from you all and it should be enough to get me started.

I think 24 feet behind the downright is a little long. Especially if you are going to stack 2 clips for roofs on the same side. If I remember right hotspot recommends closer to 15 feet behind the wire. Also rsk's are a good place to start, I use a small rubberband behin the dorsal fin of the bait to keep the hook close to the bait. Also, not sure what you read but the rule is to generally run bait with its own action (ie rsk, crippled anchovy, apex, brads cut plug or spoon ) pretty far behind a hotspot; unlike a hoochy that needs to get action from the flasher.

Do you mean 3 fathoms from their down rigger clip to their bait?

He must mean from the downrigger clip to the flasher just like the hotspot deadly trolling techniques booklet says.
