The Julia will be out there tomorrow (Monday). We will call it out if anything exciting happens.

...12 hours on the water today. MB to Piedras Blancas and out to about 20 miles for nuthin'. Found plenty of clean blue water and temps to 63 degrees with lots of dolphin, birds, whales... just no tuna. We'll keep looking.

Is anyone willing to post some starting numbers for the bluefin bite? Trying to get the SLO Troller out tomorrow.

Only thing I'd heard was "7 miles out of Morro" but that was a few weeks ago. The Starfire has been getting them...

Head up and out and watch the temp. Yesterday we saw 61 degree water 10 miles offshore starting at about Cambria. Fish have been seen from there all the way up past the lighthouse. We got ours 11 miles off Piedras Blancas. Its a big ocean.

Big Ocean indeed! Friday, the Troller did a 120 mile lap for nada. Saw 1 jumper. Soaked bait on it for 45 mins, not interested. We started 9 miles straight out from San Simeon and worked a zig zag between 240 and 270 for another 20ish miles out. May have over run them but water temp and color were good and the jumper was about mid way of that exploration. Suprised by the general lack of activity and life out there given the water temps but maybe just an off day. Good luck to all on the hunt.

The fish have been all along the edge of the break, and wherever there’s underwater canyons, ridges, and shelves that line up with the temps. Like I said, BFT central out there.

All the better grade fish have come off bait. And by NOT trolling right up to and into the middle of breezing fish. That is scaring the fish down, and not producing any fish. The ones caught on fast troll are all blind strikes, and mostly 30-40lb fish that are in very large schools. A lot of guys have been screwing it up for people who are bait fishing and have fish around them , only to have some dip gun it for the middle of the fish and scare them off. If more guys got on the same page, a **** of a lot more fish would be caught by everyone trying.

Totally agree. These bigger grade BFT are super sensitive and sink very easily to boat traffic. It is very frustrating to finally have Fish come up only to be ran over by someone doing circles around us and running over bait lines we have strung out very far on the surface. And Driving under the kite and poking at my rig is a new one recently seen. I really think most just don’t even know. I see a lot of folks Fish for these with similar tactics and strategy that’s use for albacore. These ain’t albacore. These can be some of the most finicky tuna you’ve ever seen.
